I owned one of these back in 1995/96... a Series McRae in mica blue with gold speedlines.
One of, if not
the, best car I've ever owned.
Not mega fast, but quick enough to be fun. It was the handling that made it though. Sure, it was quite softly sprung, but on a typical UK back road that worked to it's advantage in that you could drive flat out over even the roughest, most pot holed roads taking huge corner cuts.
It responded amazingly well to both trail braking and left foot braking too... the rear could be swung round on corner entry, and from there you just waited until you got the right angle of attack before jumping on the gas and pulling perfect 4 wheel drifts from well before the apex all the way to the exit... hillarious
But not quite as hilarious as the fun you could have when it snowed... sideways everywhere, for as long as you kept your foot in.
Mine was faultless over 60k miles... though it did like a drink, with typical fuel consumption in the mid/high teens (my company were paying for my petrol back then).
The only real problem I had with it was it acted as a police magnet and I managed to rack up 15 points on my license.
The last cool Impreza IMO.
