PS3 PSN login error

ok so i have been trying to loggin to my PSN account for the last half hour and i keep getting this message "An error has occured. You have been signed out of PlaystationNetwork (8001050F)" and then i spent the next half hour trying to fix it, i went online and did a search on the error code and found out that its not just me its happening to alot of people

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100228160234AASdL0S

did any of you guys get this message and what do you think it is?

I just got this too. Did a quick search and first link I found was gamespot and there's like 50 people having this, all of today!

Seems only affect the old (fat) PS3s, anyways that's really strange. New way from Sony to boost sales? I hope not!

I also looked what 8001050F actually means and it means "Hardware failure"... are you kidding me?!
I hope they fix it soon...

Obviously not Hardware failure, quite a few a reporting it being linked with not being able sync trophy info. I think Sony may have been messing with the Trophy system and somehow screwed over login for everyone.

Yeah, right I hope it's just the wrong error code and that they fix it soon for everyone.

LOL update: seems like really everyone with a fat PS3 is getting this (plus corrupted PSN themes and resetting the date/year to 1999)... nice job! :boggled:

I've had this same problem, the worst part about it is that i cant play Heavy rain & my heavy rain trophies i earned ( 72%) are gone

I have two downloaded games, WipeoutHD and Pixeljunk Monsters. Both are locked out, as if all I ever downloaded was the demo. Each has a link where I can go to the PS store and buy the full game. I'd say Sony has a BIG problem on their hands.

Same I wanted to play some High Velocity Bowling.

Add Burnout paradise to the list

I can't seem to copy Dirt 2 (PSP) to my Go. I looked up the error and tried logging into PSN. No dice. I'm hoping it's related.

Getting the same error. Turning the Media streaming off does not fix the problem. Hopefully they fix this, and I better still be able to play the game I have downloaded or someone will be owing me a game...

Word is not to turn your PS3 on for atleast the next 24 hours. Otherwise you may lose all your unsynchronised trophies. Trophies that have already been synced should be ok.

Ok thanks. Where'd you get that information from?

For those curious, and don't want to just wait it out, you may want to follow Sony's PlayStation Twitter.

Here's their most recent update:

Official SonyPlaystation Twitter Update
PSN status update: We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them.

For those that want more detailed information on this issue you may want to check out Sony's official PlayStation Network forum. Just be prepared to have to filter through a bunch of mis-information and nonconstructive comments, as it is an open forum abused by many trolls. *sigh*

Beyond that, my personal recommendation is to not use your PS3 until the issue is resolved.

I just used mine to watch a blu-ray movie then shut it off immediately afterwords. Hopefully that didn't hurt anything.

Will it hurt if you didn't go to see your trophies? I don't care about trophies at all, but I just remembered that Burnout is at 26%!!!:scared:

I can't believe that I can't play sinlge player in most of the games I own. I think the whole trophy thing is a waste of time in the first place. The XBox 360 keeps looking better.

I don't think so...

Only problem I see there's like two solutions to this (if it's a leap year/ date issue)
A: it will cure itself after today is over, or
B: everyone out of warranty is screwed since there seems no way to fix this thru a FW update, because 8001050F error code means you cannot log into PSN or update your FW.

I hope I got this wrong, but that's what it read AFAIR.

I don't think this will happen because I was able to get a Killzone 2 update. I couldn't play the game, but I could still get the update.

So you can log in PSN and you don't have a slim?
Because: 8001050F - Cannot update firmware or connect to internet. (Which again is strange since internet works fine, just PSN not) Still how do you got an update without PSN? :odd:

Game updates don't require a psn log in.

I booted up a game just before after getting the 8001050F error and it asked if I wished to update my game. So clearly it is still connecting to the internet.

He was probably still logged in from before the crash happened. I'm not sure when it started but I think I must have downloaded a game while the error was occuring, but because I hadn't logged out, I was still able to download it (though I couldn't transfer it to my PSP)

Well, you may not know this, but you can use a flash drive to upgrade the firmware on a PS3.

On the Blu-Ray note, I watched a movie with no issue and then fiddled with some Demos I had downloaded.

I still find the leap year thing unlikely, as the math check for that is relatively straight forward. Divide by 4, pretty simple.

Yep, came home to friends telling me it wasnt working. I cant play my games on single player or anything, the date is reset and it wont internet update. Seriously server fail on sonys end. Why only Phats though, WHY!

I just turned on my PS3 to play GT5P online only to find out I have the same (8001050F) problem. I was getting worried then found this post. Looks like it's effecting the Australian and the US PS3s. I hope Sony fix it soon.

Oh, yes I know that, I was simply going by what the error descrpition says '8001050F - Hardware failure. Cannot update firmware or connect to internet'.
Now I admit, this is likely not 100% accurate as it's not really official and we obviously can still connect to the internet.

I think this date thing is still likely tho, by simple logic, it happened at roughly the same time all over the world and on a rather special date (even if it's not a leap year).

Anyways i have to go to work now (with little to no sleep :scared:), so I hope there's some good news when I got back or at least it will be fixed 'somehow' tomorrow. :)

I'm having the same problem too. Thankfully I didn't switch the PS3 on earlier or I would have been crapping myself.
