PS3 PSN login error

Is everyone's trophies gone? IIRC I have trophies from 3 games, and 2 of those game's trophies were still on my PS3.

My trophies from Heavy Rain are gone, actually the whole trophy list from this game was disappeared. I've tried GTA IV as well, the game works fine in offline, but its trophy list was gone as well once I played the game. :indiff:

Once PSN is back and working, resync and they'll be back (probably). In the meantime stop playing games you have trophies for!

Yeah,i won't turn on my ps3 untill i read everywere this problem has been solved,or we can update the ps3 with a solution sony has put online...I won't take any chances...

spy.

Actually, it's a bit more complex, but still no rocket science. :)

Well, I am aware of the additional math, but I could see a programmer leaving out the 400 and 100 elements in the assumption that no one will use a PS3 by the year 2100. That kind of human error/oversight I can see, when people are stipulating it must be because of the even year thing, which would mean someone used a 2 instead of 4 in the code. If it does turn out to be this, I am just going to shake my head, as it means someone shouldn't have a degree programming...

All the panicking I see over this is a tad amusing. It is clearly a software/firmware issue that can very likely be resolved though an update, even if it is just a work around patch. And it clearly isn't a PSN fault exclusively, as Slims are working fine and even offline Fats are having the date issues. What I do find odd is even games that don't require you to update or be online are having issues, such as Wipeout HD. I could see this being a file date issue, where the system sees an "impossibility" with the unlock dates being years "after" the current date.

This affecting thousands of people right now...

Try "millions". Every fat PS3 sold. Every one of them. It's just that thousands of them are overreacting to a minor glitch that will be solved in due course.

It seems something in the firmware has messed up the system battery, as after manually setting the time it doesn't move. Does anyone who has no warranty left dare to open up their PS3 and remove the battery and put it back again, as I think it could fix the problem. I would do it, but having never opened up a PS3 I wouldn't know where to start.

Oh and Famine I thought it was every Fat PS3 too but it appears a very small number ( the newest ones I presume ) are working perfectly fine.

Apparently, not every single one. Some of the newer 80GB fat models do not appear to suffer from the problem (I heard multiple reports from different people owning a 80GB fatty that have no problems).

I've manually set the date/time. Seems okay.

We have a launch 60Gb and a last-fatty 80Gb. Both exhibit the symptoms (though I've not allowed either to connect).

If any are working normally, it's going to be a one-off batch of a specific model/region type. We're still looking at probably 75% of all PS3s ever sold - something in the order of 27 million consoles.

This is what happens when you manufacture so many different versions of a system and then expect to run them all without problems on the same firmware, thinking about it this was bound to happen at some point or other.

Famine, have you turned the PS3 off and then back on later? The clock was working while it was on this morning, I turned it back on again a while ago and the time hadn't moved since. It isn't keeping time while it is turned off, suggesting a battery problem.

I have. The unique way in which Fallout 3 is programmed of course necessitated that event. 🤬 Bethesda

I've got what I believe is a 160GB, original sized PS3, the model that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came packaged with. I started playing Borderlands this past weekend, and I turned off the PS3 at about 11:00pm CST, last night. My internet connection has been 'disabled' for quite a while now.

I saw this thread, and I wondered if the date/time were messed up on my system. I just turned it on, and the date and time are correct....7:42 am on 03/01/2010. Maybe my particular model was not affected? I don't intend to enable my wifi connection for a good while.

Well mine certainly isn't keeping time. I set the clock at 13.39 and it moved passed 13.40 then I shut down the system, I just turned it back on and the time said 13.39, the same time as when I set the clock.

Good job that I didn't suggest that you could, or that I had.

You said that the clock seems ok after you reset it. If the clock was ok then this problem would be solved as it is at the center of it.

That's a bit of a logical leap, given that there's no official word on what the problem is yet.

I said that I have manually reset the clock and the clock seems fine. I've also been successfully playing games offline. That doesn't in any way suggest the problem is solved for me. In either case, I'm just not that bothered by it. There's a problem, it is being looked into, nothing I can do will achieve a resolution.

This is why I went out and walked the dogs and had a cup of coffee instead of stressing about an issue over which I have no control.

ASH - I flicked the console off about an hour since, having got pissed off with how buggy "The Pitt" on FO3 was. I'll turn it on again in a few and let you know if it's stuck or ticking.

The only games I am interested in playing are GT5P online and Heavy Rain. Both will not work online or off. Might just work on my sites or go to bed.

I wouldn't expect any kind of fix before the day is out (over here at least - it's probably already tomorrow for you) - if you have any gaming plans for tomorrow, I'd consider postponing them.

My fat 40gb (soon to be fat 1tb) launch is still working...though I'll admit the online games are a tad quieter than usual.

From what I've gathered, it's not specifically the firmware's inability to deal with leap years, rather the interaction between the PS3 and the PSN. If you've tried programming before, you'll know what happens when machine 1 thinks it lives 24 hours ahead of machine 2 and neither of them are programmed to deal with something like that.

Word is they've got a fix almost done. Apparently it'll go live on the 2nd, failing that the worst case scenario is "to have users download updates to a USB and install from there".

Oh, and if you're looking for a free game / online credit (like MS sent out when XBOX Live went down for...most of the holidays), don't bet on it.

On the other hand, a really messed up LittleBigPlanet character called APACOLYPS3...with model geometry all over the place and textures sideways and some aborted animation and bad clipping.

It should just be a firmware update. My console can still download and install updates, I updated heavy rain after my console became affected. I can still check for firmware updates too.

Would you be surprised if I said I don't believe that your launch system is working?

And I'm not understanding why games aren't working offline...

My 80GB fatty is affected too, noticed the 1/1 date immediately after logging in with my 'Offline' account (which has no PSN). I could reset the clock, but no logging in to PSN or syncing the time via internet. Games that require or are purchased off PSN will not work either.

Guess I'll be doing something different tonight. I just hope (for Sony anyway :P) that it can be fixed with a firmware update and is not a hardware issue.

Has anyone tried removing the battery and putting it back in yet, I think it may fix the problem. Or are you all like me and daren't try it because you don't know what you are doing and are worried you might break your PS3.

Well GT5p is playable... but no fun playing it offline...........

They should gives a cookie after the problem is solved! Maybe a free video or 2 in GT-TV:)! When i get a problem with my internet/TV provider, i normally call and stress a bit with them (thats how things get solved rapidly here:crazy:), after that i normally get free movie tickets in the mail ! If this kind of nice gesture is no problem to a smaller company, surely wouldnt be a problem to Sony:indiff:! Obviously i wont count on it... we all know they dont care much about the fans opinion:grumpy:!

Got the error too.

Luckily I don't use it much these days.

I just removed my ethernet and Uncharted 2 loads up fine. Just unplug ethernet or disable the wireless. Most PS3 games don't require an internet connection in order to play. This isn't Ubisofts DRM nonsense that they use on PC games. I played many PS3 games offline. The only one I can think of where you need a connection is the download version of GT5P.

I tried that with no luck. To clarify, I was not logged onto the PSN from before the crash. Last night, at about 9:00 p.m. (EST), about five hours after the problem occured, was the first time I turned my PS3 on in about a week.

Well, I don't think there is any hope of any sort of compensation horde_r35, this isn't just one person with a fault, it is effecting millions. Sony aren't going to compensate that many people are they. We deserve an apology at the very least, but i'll doubt we will get that and to be honest, right now i'll be happy with just a fix.
