PS3 PSN login error

And taking a nonchalant approach to this stuff just means the gaming industry will continue to pull crap like this and think it's OK. People need to speak up (and with their wallets) that stuff like this isn't acceptable, especially after the huge out lay of money we've paid for their product.

I've had three years of pretty much faultless service from my launch PS3 - for a current outlay of 30p a day. There's been five scheduled maintenance periods during that time that I am aware of, of a couple of hours apiece. This is, to the best of my memory, the first time that any part of my console or the service to which it connects has fallen over.

That's a pretty long way from being unacceptable. Short of having expectations of perfection, I can't really see how anyone would find a fault here. Maybe people who've been through a YLOD might feel different, but, from my point of view, this is a temporary glitch that, aside from making it difficult for me to spend the evening shooting my friends down the internet, causes no issue in my life whatsoever.

If somebody gets the balls to turn on their PS3 please let us all know how it goes.

Does anybody know if it's safe for me to turn on the PS3 and play single player games that don't involve trophies or should I just forget it at the risk of losing a bunch of weird data?

Maybe that's why I have something against Sony stuff, I went though a couple of PS2's and I've been though a few PS3's as well all through various hardware failures. I just have a big issue with paying a bunch of money for something and it not working properly or having preventable issues.

I've just grown tired of the gaming industry as a whole not properly testing their stuff, whether it be consoles in the case of the 360, games in the case of everything EA, or OS software in the case of everyone. Actually come to think of it the whole consumer world is going that way and it's lame.

You make some good points (I had a Sony mp3 player die but warranty covered it). But this isn't a case of the industry using us as test subjects. That kind of stuff happens all the time, but not here. It's one bug in the clock that went unnoticed and worked fine from 2006 until today. You'd have to pay a lot more than any of us did for a PS3 to get a piece of tech hardware with a guarantee of literally perfect functionality.

I turned my old 40gb (now 320gb) ps3 on, when i tried to sign in to psn it came up with the 800150f error and it wouldnt connect to psn, however i uploaded 2 demos to my ps3 from a playstation magazine disc (fight night round 4 and nhl 09) just to see if it would work and those 2 demos worked perfectly but i didn't want to risk putting in any actual games.

Bethesda. :censored:s.

But, similarly, I have four PS2s - not because they broke, but because I keep accidentally collecting them for LANs. Not had a problem with any of them. Now, that's not to say that they don't break, or people didn't get DREs but, since 1997, I've not had a day of downtime with them.

PSN is a little different - I have no control over that, and that's a natural extension of network gaming. Currently my PS3 won't connect to PSN through no fault of my own - but the company responsible had no idea it would happen and are working like crazy to generate a solution. That's pretty much the definition of a good service - my console's nowhere near being in warranty, but still they're fixing it for me. A day of downtime in a thousand which causes no permanent issues? I'll take it - that's a 99.9% reliable service. I wonder what else can match that?

ooops lol! :scared: i turned my 60gb on earlier and of course couldn't sign in to the PSN

didn't have a clue what the error code was, so i just shrugged and played Supercar Challenge offline for a while then switched off

then i come on here and found this thread! :ill:

who knows what havoc i've wreaked

now sitting with everything crossed hoping it gets sorted. back to the trusty PS2 till i read its safe to use my fatty again

Worth noting it isn't just PS3's that are experiencing these clock failures. Some Blackberry phones and other electronic devices which share the same CPU type have also been effected. They have all been patched though, not sure why Sony aren't faster.

The reason Slim PS3's work is because they use the newer CPU type which has had this bug addressed.

I think a trip back to my ignore list is in order so I don't have be insulted by your nonsense, flame baiting, and personal attacking undertones.

I simply made observations based on what you yourself have said in this forum over the last three or four years. If you don't like what you hear, then change the way you act... or be in denial and just use the ignore option.

I just find it funny that it took 10 years for the Y2K bug to finally surface. :D

funny

But also like the terminator analogy.

Or the matrix is making a ps3 matrix

So true. Very good service. I love my ps3 despite the fact that my pc will crush the ps3 in every way (playing dirt2 full hd everything at full, aa full,... 80 frames), but still love my boothylicious ps3. No nintendo kiddy games, no immature acting like xbox (avatar, beurk!), free online. Man i'm paying for my connection, payed for a console, paying my games (not the case of a lot of xboxers) and still want money. NEVER

I've been unable to connect with my slim since about 8 EST last night. Reset my clock and just played GT5P offline...

It's a server prob, not a hardware prob....

Played GT5P for about 2hours this afternoon. (60GB) Found the error code came up at the start but didn't find any other problems yet. Thats playing offline of course.

Signed into PSN on the computer after a few tries, probably really busy but seemed to have all of my trophies still there.

My one thought is if its an internal problem causing a conection error to the PSN and I cannot update system, then how will they send the patches? Any techies out there with an answer?

Overall though I think they'll soon sort out the problem. Seem to have plenty of time before GT5's release :)

Well my PS3 is still being a douche at the moment, though that's not a bad thing at all considering that I have two tests this week before Spring Break.

Plenty of study time now...

Patches aren't sent though PSN. Just though the plain old internet, which can still be accessed. Also if that failed there is always the safety option of installing Patches via USB.

Internet connection doesnt require PSN, internet works right now on all ps3

Thanks for that. It was my only worry. I don't think it will be long before they create something to deal with the problem.

This can be fixed! But requires opening up your PS3 :(

Basically the problem lies in the internal battery, remove it for 5 mins then re-insert. Now someone has found how to solve the problem physically I'm sure Sony can work out a software work-around.

EDIT: Sorta Tree'd.

1. In your Video, was it just simply dissconnecting the Battery and leaving it dissconnected?

2. Do you know if a new Battery can be bought or not?

3. And if you know will this happen to the Battery's in the Slim PS3's 2 and half years later.

I have the 60GB bought on its launch day March 2007 and have had no problems since having it. I have been laughing all day long because since PSN had a Maintenance update the week of the 16th Feb 2010 a lot of people were and still are going through the same thing, even I was suffering from it till it cleared up.

I think they are aware of what is going on for a while now but cannot find a solution sooner than we would like them to.

I have one very simple question:

- If I only use my PS3 OFFLINE I won't have any problem, right?

Hi Hun, I am currently using mine offline with no problems at all. It surely (hopefully) must only affect things if you connect online I think. I do not see how it can cause a problem if you use when not connected to the web. But I am an old person low on ICT knowledge so may be wrong!

Not necessarily, i have heard reports of offline trouble like losing game and trophy data and one friend with a temporary brick.

My GUESS at this point is that a game with no trophy support that doesn't rely on any DLC you have bought that also doesn't rely on save/load data should be good to go.

Somebody else will probably fill this in but that's something for you via quick response.

EDIT: but everything's workin' smooth for oldnail... just goes to show the odd nature of such errors or the crap data I'm passing along, not sure which ;P.

EDIT 2: from what people are saying looks like you'll be fine but don't use any games relying on DLC or trophies as they are tied to the clock and will mess up. Saves I am still unsure of and this might vary game to game. Don't play any downloaded games, either.

As long as what ever you are using it for doesn't require the internal clock to be accurate. So far many people with this issue are still able to play various games. I know the blu-ray player works fine, as does the web browser. I can still look at pictures, play music, and watch videos. Even the networking media sharing DLNA service works fine.

However what I understand is that some of the videos downloaded from the PSN video store won't playback until the internal clock is accurate due to copy protection. This is also the case of many downloadable games.

If the game you want to play works then you shouldn't have any problems. Some games won't work ( like FIFA 10 ) even offline due to trophy sync errors. Playing trophyless games should be fine, although in their statement on the PS Blog Sony advise against it.

A link to the blog if anyone wants it:- http://blog.eu.playstation.com/

Thanks for the quick replies, much appreciated! :)

Could this be the reason for me to go back to GT5P (no trophy support) tonight? I think I left a few Silvers in my offline career, about 2 years ago

It isn't my video. I have no idea if a new battery can be bought, but why would you need a new one anyway?

I do know that this WILL NOT happen to the Slim ever. It isn't a battery problem, it's a problem with one of the CPU's. The Slim has the next version of said CPU in which this bug has been fixed.

I would highly advise against doing the battery removal, it's very risky and you could end up breaking something. This bug has been patched before in other electronic devices so Sony should have it sorted soon.

I was playing upto about 12:40AM this morning on MAG and I didn't have this issue on a 40gig Fat PS3 (now 320gig) - then I left it on 2 hours to charge my headset...

So - anyone know - is it safe to go on tonight?

C.

PS - in response to Sony's stability - I've had a PS (95), PS2 (2000) & a PS3 now (2008 (19 months now)) - aside from the odd freeze here and there - the only problem I had was with one of my PS1 controllers - where I'd packed it to move - and one of the analogue sticks got stuck in the wrong position...

I will say that the PS3 has had more freezes - but that's because I've been playing (or trying to) Fallout 3 - which crashes more often than a blind person on a dodgem track. (To echo Famine's comment - Bethesda sucks - although the game is ace!!!)

I am using GT5P so maybe that is why it is ok:)
