Changes made to max PP rating since 1.07 update.
Based off the success of the GTPlanet Spec Miata Series, this new Championship will feature the RM Lexus IS-F. The cars are unlimited, except for power and performance points which will be capped at 522HP and 601PP. Tires will remain Racing Hard. The car is already as light as it will go at 1185kg, you are allowed to further adjust your weight balance by
adding ballast and distributing it as desired. There is an obvious self-imposed weight disadvantage but it may be desirable in order to change the nature of the car's handling.

The maximum PP rating for the ISF RM at our spec is 601(full downforce). And that is with a fully broken in engine @ 200 miles making 514BHP after applying the necessary tuning upgrades to run in the series.

The race room will be set to a PP limit of 601. You are allowed to add ballast and tune with it and adjust every gear to your liking as I can not control driver's use of those systems.
Thank you.

Here are the items that will need to be purchased to compete in this series. Some of these are included with the RM package:
  • Lexus IS-F (Premium)
  • Oil Change
  • Racing Modification (Purchase First)
  • Racing Titanium Exhaust
  • Sport Catalytic Converter
  • Racing Transmission
  • Twin Disk Clutch
  • Semi-Racing Flywheel
  • Adjustable LSD
  • Carbon Driveshaft
  • Full Adjustable Suspension
  • Racing Hard Tires
  • Chassis Reinforcement

Limited to a full lobby of 16 drivers only, a pre-race qualifying event (See third post for qualifying format) will sort the field down to our final 16 contenders for that weekend's race. If you are interested in signing up, please note that you have to be committed to running the entire series to the best of your ability. If you miss more than two races, you are likely to be replaced by someone that wants to join in after we have already started.

Because we are using the Racing Modification, when you sign up please give me the following information:

  • GTP Name
  • PSN Name
  • Car Colors (body/wheels)
  • Car Number

Post reserved for official race results and rules.

Qualifying rules:

2 Lap Live Exhibition Qualifying

Our qualifying procedure is simple. We have two days of qualifying before the race on Sunday for a full weekend GP. This is in order to give all the drivers interested in racing lotts of time to set their fastest laps in a controlled environment. Drivers only have one attempt at setting their fastest lap so choose the time you qualify carefully. Any laps or sessions disrupted by disconnections or network failures will not be counted what so ever. Even if you just crossed the line on your second flying lap. Those whos' sessions were disrupted in any way will have a second chance at qualifying.

Procedure: A steward will open an official qualifying room.
When the qualifying room is ready to start a session we will let one or two (depending on room size) chosen drivers go out one at a time (to give eachother room). When the qualifying session begins on track, one driver will be chosen to start their out lap first and the second driver will be told to hold on the line for 20 seconds until they can start.

All other visitors in the room will be watching the driver(s) to make sure their laps are clean.
The room will be set to a 4 lap race. Only laps 2 and 3 will count as qualifying "flying lap" times.
The driver's fastest lap will set their qualification.

Friday qualification will be floating format. You can qualify any time of that day by requesting a steward to observe your run.
We will set a group time as usual but drivers qualifying on Friday can also, at any time, be observed by an approved race steward to set their qualifying time. Again, you can qualify at any time on Fridays as long as you PM or other-wise message a race steward to observe your laps. Requesting to be qualified can be simply done by messaging a steward. The steward will then set up a room for you to join with all the correct reg's and settings. You will do a race of 4 laps where laps 2 and 3 count as your official qualifying laps.

Saturday will also be floating format yet with a deadline.
The deadline will be at the end of the scheduled qualifying session set on Saturday. No more qualifying can be submitted after the official live qualifying session is ended.

If you look at the race schedule you will see that the qualifying room for last minute quali. will be open from 6pm EST to 8pm EST.
That will mean there is an 8pm EST qualifying cut off deadline. Any drivers that make it into the room before 8pm EST will get qualified.
So if you join the room and there's still people qualifying at 8:00 you will be allowed to run after the deadline since all you're required to do is be in the room before the specified time.
There will only be a 5 minute grace period for registered drivers coming in at the last second. After that, absolutely no more entrants may be accepted.

It's set up to be flexible to give the option to people with different schedules to qualify whenever they can yet the deadline is imposed so that if you do have time you can practice till the last minute to set your best time.

Any racing steward can note the time and post the official ranking in the thread.

Look in this thread [post #3] to find your position after your run.

Final qualifying results for race 5:

Gridding procedure:

We're taking a simple approach to making sure our race is gridded up properly according to recorded qualifying rankings.

We all line up on a chosen straight of the track in order of our qualifying position.
We set the room to grid drivers according to the "fastest first" option.
If we start the race where everyone is parked in line in qualifying order it will put us in that order for the race start.

Thanks dude! Original thread is locked up. Keep me on the roster as I will try my best to make the races around all the GT Academy stuff. 👍

I guess that since this is popular, i'll take it to the track in a Schwartz/White #72. See you next week!

Yeah everyone, we're gonna run the "official" practice race as scheduled. I'll give more detail on exactly how it'll go down later on.

I work nights so I'll keep in touch in the afteroons and past midnight GMT -8 PST

I'll update everything later on when I'm back from work.

Y Alien: Si se puede!

You guys forgot to add me although I had already posted in the old thread right before the previous organizer bailed.

not sure why with this many people we just don't run several races and then pick the top drivers from each group and do a final event.

the qualifying stuff is lame.

First, I didn't just "bail" on it. For personal reasons (Job, Family, etc) I cannot put forth the time to run it.

Second, I tried your "several room" idea before in Spec Miata and it didn't work out.

Third, despite the large signup list above, I can almost guarantee we'll see less than half those people actually show up.

Do we have a specific track for Saturday's practice?

I vote we ditch the original plan (Nurb GP/F) and run Monza. 👍

Ok, so are new rims allowed or must they be default?

You can use any rims you want.

I just updated the driver list and included the specifics of the practice race on the first post. Also added that sweet nifty little Yokohama logo B)

Great news. Is there room up just for practice and what-not?

There's none up to my knowledge. But as always, anyone's free to open one up.

Also, a question: what would you guys think about incorporating tire strategy into the series, or at least the practice race?

Since we're running long races I thought about maybe letting people decide which tires they would want to use. There would still be a mandatory pit stop but someone who knows how to be consistent on hard tires could run the whole race and pit at the very end as opposed to someone who wants to be fast out the gate on softs and have to pit after a handful of laps.
Maybe if we let the drivers pick tires we could get rid of mandatory stops if we tested enough to see what the maximum endurance is for each tire?

Just a thought.

I like that idea a lot!!

hard tires actually last less than soft tires.

Both are just linear multiplier to the car's grip and were hard-coded to last the exact same time, on hard tires however you're constantly slipping and sliding left and right so the tire wear occurs at a faster pace.

Great insight thanks. Any thread you could point to that discusses this? Or is it somehwere in that "Tire test" post in the main GT5 forum?

That's the thread, I also run a Super GT championship on another forum and over the course of the first 8 races we've had many drivers losing several positions under the assumption that hard tires last longer than softs.

They're just a totally arbitrary handicap to the cars performance, just like the default positive toe aimed at generating artificious understeer.

Interesting. Reading through the thread again makes every thing make sense... and not sense all at the same time hah. But yeah I've gotten over that toe and the seemingly reverse suspension settings so far.

Any other findings in the way of the "broken" tuning system?

I am in the same situation with R1600, family and GT Academy. I will try to show up for the qualifying session.

If we are planning on running softs, might as well make it the default tire. That's what everyone will run anyways given the choice, and I know first hand that trying to run a harder tire will ruin your race. (happened to me on Monday night)

Yeah, just had a thought and hit another wall in GT5's physics and tire model.

The wear rates are the same on any tire. Hards do indeed wear down faster yet only because you're constantly overdriving do to understeer.

The wear rate's the same and the tire models don't really seem to be squared up yet.
I'm gonna change the tires to either sport softs or racing softs (although according to this it doesn't seem to matter which you pick, same performance wear rate) after we do some testing. For the practice race we're still running racing hards as planned.

I have a hard time believing that sport softs perform the same (grip wise) as racing softs.

Edited, meant to say they had the same amount of wear. Grip is definitely better on full slicks.

Please add me :)
Looking foward to it!

I just thought of this. Wouldn't Feb. 20th's race interfere with the Daytona 500?
