Thoughts on qualifying:
I like the format, I think nerves got the better of some of us due to the fact that everyone else was watching, the pressure was immense!

Thoughts on the race:
The race wasn't all that bad, we all raced dirty at some point of the race until things got settled down. I had a decent start then got completely knocked off the track at turn 7 (Variante Ascari) on the first lap. lapierre4 and I fought very hard resulting in lapierre4 going off at turn 1 (sorry).

Graham and I had a very close battle on the last lap resulting in me overtaking him from the draft with my car on the grass.
The front runners were incredibly quick, from what I could barely see ahead, p2 to p4 were in very close proximity towards the end.

Tnx for the race guys!! Now i'm registered!

Sorry for the bumps and 2 crashs that i did coming back to the track after spinning :(

damn tyres loose my 2nd place just in the ending of the race so frustrating!! hahaha
Gratz everyone, I've loved the way that the grid is formed and the qualify method

yea imagine my heart rate doubling when wardez said "fred, you're on" (i was the first to set a time)
👍 You did an awesome job going out first. Thanks for the feedback and for helping out with results. I just took a picture last second 'cause I had my phone on my desk :)

I loved the qualifying format too. That was sexy!
Great racing guys! Looking foward for the next races :)

Awesome times yes. You really impressed everyone in qualifying and the following race. Remember your fastest lap? You were pretty consistent. For about one second I thought I could maybe gain some time on you when you pitted on lap ten. I was leading the race on your out lap but you were only like 8 seconds behind me so I couldn't pit ahead, then I spun out xD But it was still a cool feeling.

I had a great battle with Aliens at the end, the guy is so clean it's encouraging.

Even though there were lots of spurts of indecisive driving, from what I saw on track I think a lot of these guys were trying their best to run cleanly, especially on a track that's hard to run clean on like Monza. I'd say we have a lot of potential in this group and it'll only get better.

So 👍 to all. Get practicing for the next race this coming Sunday at Fuji. Post those times up and tell your friends to come on and join. Dehytor was quick out the gate, friend of Minion.

I'm gonna do a quick reminder to some of the notable absences on our registration list and then I'm sure we'll have some full grids.

What I Learned from this is that I definitely can hang with alot of you guys, while racing clean.

And also that i need more track time before qualifying. This week will be all about Fuji for me.

I thought you were going for 20 laps no pit to have a shot for 1st place. But then after i pitted and was on the chase, you spun hehe. I wasn't sure if pit was required or not, but i went for it anyways, cause i had a solid lead.

My fastest lap 1:48.806 on lap 16 i think. Pretty clean lap, no draft and no chicane cutting.

Yeah, I think you should give us (or just me :P) some good pointers, and set-up tips, Minion.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys. Got a late start on the day after being up late last night racing online, which basically pushed my whole day back a few hours. By the time I was finished working on my car, I had missed the start of the race. :(

On the qualifying sessions for the first race ...

Race #1: Fuji Speedway F
* Qualifying Session #1: Thursday, February 17th, 9:00-10:00pm EST
* Qualifying Session #2: Friday, February 18th, 9:00-10:00pm EST
* Qualifying Session #3: Saturday, February 19th, 5:00-6:00pm EST
* Race Day: February 20th, 2011 @ 8:00pm Eastern, 5:00pm Pacific (USA)
* Distance: 25 Laps - Pit stop required

How will this be done, will this be based on lap times? or an actual race where the top finishers move on to race on Sunday?

Yes, see the third post.

And everyone, I just updated everything so go through the first and third post to get everyone on the same page.

I needed to change the qualifying times since I have a different schedule than R1600Turbo. I pushed back the race times one hour. I also got rid of the Thursday qualifier 'cause it was a little much.

Thanks!

Great race with all of u guys! lot of bumps but mostly ocasionated for the incredible draft, it was easy to lose the break point.

intensive battle with wardez at the end, my strategy was to pass him in the main straight but i lost time in ascari. anyways it was really fun!

I'm sorry I had to leave for the other race. Sucks that it got pushed 3 hours before scheduled time. I would've loved racing with you guys!

I was just wondering, on the qualifying approach, having this done prior to a the race the lap times does not get logged, at least i did not see this anywhere.

What if qualifying was done in race mode where each user's best lap time will be logged on the details view. I see qualifiers getting in, race is started the every body lines up on the side of the road, 2 guys will run out for the same number of laps (2.5) and the best lap time will show up on the board then the next 2 guys go and so on.

Just a thought.

Have fun Wardez! Get ready to feel Turbo's pain!

(I am not picking on you tinram. It is just funny because this is the kind of stuff we had to deal with in the GTP Spec Miata series.)

While someone is on the track, you can "watch race" and switch to a data-logger view that shows you best/current lap times.

I did not mean to open up old wounds. :crazy:

Like i said, i was just a thought, no worries here. You guys are doing great, I wouldn't try to help with ideas if you weren't such great bunch of folks. :)

Thanks!

Am I right in pointing out that the fastest laps displayed on each person's screen while in a race isn't really the correct method because during a race, the game does not invalidate dirty laps? (At least that's what I have noticed)

If you're talking about qualifying, it is done in Free Run mode, while everyone watches. If someone has a dirty lap....everyone watching will know about it.

Ye I was talking about what "mode" (race vs. free run) for the qualifying, sorry, should've been more clear but yea, everyone watching kinda negates every other aspect.

Hah, yes true. I'm ready to feel it this coming weekend when the update hits. Hopefully it's not too radical in the wrong directions but it sounds good at this point, just wish we knew more.

Thank you, everyone's perspective can be refreshing, thanks for pointing something out. There's always room for tweaking and such. But yeah, pretty much what RT said is what we have in mind.

Oh and I was wondering what happened at the practice race, did you lose connection?

Ye I was talking about what "mode" (race vs. free run) for the qualifying, sorry, should've been more clear but yea, everyone watching kinda negates every other aspect.

Race is good for saving replays and such for future review but we're going for a more live sort of approach. Kind of like referees, but we're all referees so it's up to us to blow the whistle on a bad lap.
But like you said, since everyone's being watched it makes people more honest. Most of the time a guy who does a dirty lap doesn't need to be pointed out, he'll usually just say that he messed up and everyone will know that it didn't count, like what happened with Mule's first flying lap.

And yes El_Aliens, this next race coming up is the first official race of the season.

Ok! Late night practice room open!

1472-6118-3701-4251-9931

Room closed!!

After a 45 minute test session was finally able to find a compromise that put me consistently on the 42's with fresh tires for about the first 5 laps then performance started to drop... Got a new better time of 1.42:386, still way off the pace but am quite happy with the way the car feels. some more pratice should solidify the results and I hope to qualify for this weekend's race!
