720p VS 1080p

Do you guys think there is big difference in picture quality in GT5. 720p vs 1080P, i have a 50" plasma thats 720p and im upgrading to 1080p this friday. I am hoping to see an improvement in picture quality especially the harsh edges when looking at the cars in the dealership. Anybody upgrade from 720 to 1080 recently that wants to share how much there enjoyment in the game rose when playing in 1080.

More crisp backgrounds (higher res), more jagged edges on cars (less AA) on 1080p. On my Samsung LED-LCD, I tried both, and the cars looked slightly better on 720p because of the higher AA, but everything also looked more pixellated because of the lower resolution. So I switched back to 1080p. Generally, it's best to stick with the native resolution of your screen, though preference is of course personal.

Interesting thoughts. Cant wait to see, i feel like the background needed some more detail as well as the road surfaces. Should be interesting.

This is most valuable answer. LCD and Plasmas have it's native resolution. Otherwise they do resizing, which is almost always not a good thing. Most differences lies here...

Maybe some side by side images after latest patches? Some Premium and Standard.

720p is best.
notice how sharp everthing is at 720p

XMB menu got to SETTINGS, then DISPLAY SETTINGS, then VIDEO OUTPUT, the HDMI, then CUSTOM, then select all up to 720p

not my video but it will help

you will likely see an improvement in quality because of the upgrade in your TV itself...not really because of the resolution upgrade in the game...

that being said...im a firm believer that PD should have gone 720p native on GT5...it would have allowed for better framerate, less screen tearing, higher res textures, and more detail...

but water under the bridge now..

Another one! :dopey: I'm with you!

Hopefully there will be proper options in GT6 (if PS3). I would want 1080p, but full native 1920x1080 pixels, at 60fps with less graphical detail,no shadows or smoke etc.
It's cant be that hard to give the customer the choice of how the game runs, all PC games have tick box options for graphics and resolution...
I wonder of they could actually update this for GT5 in a future patch?

1080p is far better. Also it depends on the htz of your TV.The higher the htz. the better the pic quality.

I thought that was a myth.
I thought you can't get any more than 50/60hz worth of GT5 graphics, even if you have a 200hz TV.

You can't! :)

120/240/480 Hz is completely artificial. Real refresh rate of those TV's is 50/60Hz (except for 3D - 120Hz), but what they really do for you is add input lag. It's all PR crap. (at least for gamers)

Compared to Prologue, GT5 at 1080p looks really blurry on my ViewSonic 24'' monitor, whereas Prologue looked MUCH sharper at 1080p... Makes you wonder what happened there during development. =/

So, until they fix it in an update or something, I'd stick to 720p for GT5. Looks closer to Prologue's sharpness, IMO.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Also...Text and menus looks crisper on 1080p because that's the native resolution of most TVs. Any other resolution would be blurry. If your TV is natively 720p, text would look best on 720p.

My TV is only 720p but I think it looks fantastic. Played it a couple times on a 1080p and I thought it looked crisper a lot of the time but again I only played it a couple times. Seems like a lot of people here figure 720p.

i honestly cant complain with the game at 1080p, i think the surfaces look fantastic and to be honest its as sharp as it should be.

you can change display options in GT5's options menu too, making the display sharper.

Heh!They've replaced 2xAA to 2xQAA which is faster but blurs the image. Also some textures are replaced to lower quality. Obliviously there not enough RAM on console, or someone just need to finally forget about the FullHD on current gen... :dopey:

To say - GTHD looks even sharper than Prologue. And runs at higher resolution (1440x1080p). GTHD also have real wheel-spin and it looks stunning in replays no matter that it's "small thing".

720P - 1280x270 4xMSAA

1080P - 1280X1080 QAA

Personally, i'd go for 720P as it's more optimized on it, it has 4XMSAA instead of the blurry QAA and the 1080P isnt really 1080P. 720P less jaggy, better FPS and better texture quality.

Is it proven to have better FPS?
I would have thought PD would have made fps same for both modes, that's why they adjusted the AA, to keep it the same standard?
Also it would only be optimised if you have a 720p TV, opposed to a 1080p TV.

Yes 720p has better fps.
