Was wondering if anyone would race in an IndyCar series? It will be quite a short, clean championship using the FGT, as this is the only open wheeled car that bears any resemblance to IndyCars :P Qualifying would begin at 20:30 GMT on Tuesday nights (Not confirmed yet!) and the race around half an hour after, the races lasting about an hour. There will also be a US series at a different time and with a different schedule organised by LVRacer, hopefully separate sign up threads as well. Also Knelly is helping organize and DrifterJoe is helping out with testing. These would be the regulations.

Daytona Road, Indy Road and Tokyo R246 Reverse Specs:
Power: Detuned to 650hp
Weight: 175kg ballast on Road courses (725kg total)
Transmission Reset to default, then put max speed at the bottom right to 211 mph, then put final gear to 4.250, and 7th gear should be at 1.509 . This should give you about 209 mph in the draft.
Tyres: Comfort Hards and Mediums. You must drive at least 2 laps on each compound.
All other tuning: Unrestricted

Laguna Seca Specs:
Power: Detuned to 650hp
Weight: 175kg ballast on Road courses (725kg total)
Transmission reset to default, then put max speed at the bottom right to 180 mph, then put final gear at 4.200, and 7th gear should be at 1.769 .
Tyres: Comfort Hards and Mediums. You must drive at least 2 laps on each compound.
All other tuning: Unrestricted

Daytona Oval Track Specs
Weight 690kg
Max Power 631bhp
Transmission: Reset everything to default, then put max speed at the bottom right to 217mph, then put final gear to 4.230, and then put 7th gear at 1.465 . You get 210/211 mph running solo, and these settings limit the drafting speeds to 215/216 mph
Tyres: Comfort Hards
Ride Height (Optional): Increase ride height to iron out the bumps in the road, not compulsory.
All Other Tuning: Unrestricted

Indy Oval Track Specs:
Weight: 690kg
Max Power: 848bhp
Transmission: Reset transmission to default, then set the max speed at the bottom to 236, then put your final gear at 4.212, and 7th gear at 1.366 . The other six gears can be set however you want. This will limit the top speed of your car to about 232.5 mph.
Tyres: Comfort Hards
All Other Tuning: Unrestricted

Assists etc.
Skid Recovery: OFF
All other Assists: Unrestricted
Grip Reduction: Real
Damage: Heavy
Penalties OFF

Bump drafting is NOT allowed on any track

UK Schedule:
Indy Japan 100 32 laps, 100 miles, Tokyo R246 Reverse!
Indy 150 60 laps, 150 miles, Indianapolis Speedway

Pit Lane Rules:
On all tracks you have to slow down to 60mph (which is the pit lane speed limit in the IndyCar series if I'm not mistaken) before you enter the pit lane and the computer takes control of your car. There are a couple of tracks that cause issues after the pit though so i'll clear them up:

Daytona Road: On exiting the pit lane and re taking control of your car, quickly slow down to the 60mph speed limit (you regain control automatically doing 62mph) Do not rejoin the track to the right. Instead continue along the long pit road extension to the left still adhering to the 60mph pit lane speed limit. Note that you ARE allowed to cut through the empty pit boxes on the second half of the pit lane. At the end of the pit lane barrier, you are free to accelerate away.

Indy Superspeedway: On exiting the pit lane and re taking control of the car, do not immediately turn right onto the track after turn 1. Instead, you should follow the inside pit road all the way round and exit after turn 2. There is no speed limit on this pit exit though as it is relatively simple, and slowing down would be pointless. Check that there are no faster cars approaching from behind when you rejoin on the back straight.

Daytona Superspeedway: On exiting the pit lane, stay on the inside of the track (to the left of the yellow line) until you are clear out of turn 2. This is to avoid accidents on the high banking. Speed on this pit exit is unrestricted. Check there are no faster cars approaching from behind when you rejoin on the back straight.

On all other tracks (on the UK schedule anyway) the pit entrys and exits are pretty simple, just remember the 60mph entry speed. You must have at least 2 wheels in the pit entry/exit lanes at all times.

Pace Lap
Form up in double file behind the safety car and follow it round the track in qualifying order.
FormationLap.jpg

At the end of the lap the safety car will pull into the pits, you should still drive at the speed limit until the first car passes the start line (or the pit wall at Indy) Pace Lap Info:
Indy 3 wide start @ 80mph
Daytona 2 wide start @ 100mph
Road Courses 2 wide start @ 70mph

Oval Cautions
Indy cautions: 4 caution laps in total. On the first lap everyone gathers behind the safety car. At the start of the second caution lap, the wavearound is given to any eligible cars. At the end of the second caution lap the pits are open. Cars catch back up to the safety car near/at the end of the third caution lap. Cars go double file on the back straight on the 4th caution lap, ready to restart. Leader takes the inside line as it is an oval. Race restarts at the beginning of the pit wall. Restart speed is 100mph.

Daytona cautions: As above, but only 3 caution laps due to the pitane being shorter. Drivers should be able to catch up to the safety car in time to go double file on the back straight of the 3rd caution lap. Race restarts at the start/finish line, just like every other course except for Indy Speedway. Restart speed is 100mph.

Road Course Cautions
2 caution laps. Form up behind the safety car as usual but at 70mph, the first caution lap starts when the safety car crosses the line. The pits will be open for the end of this lap, once you have pitted, catch up to the safety car and go double file for the restart at the start/finish line. The leader gets a choice of the inside or outside line for restarts.

Misc.
A couple of ovals, mixed with road races and a Japan race which is similar to IndyCar. Also the Indy 300 will be a race between the US and UK drivers with every driver on the winning team receiving a prize car! The top 4 drivers from the US and UK series will qualify automatically and the other 8 spaces will be filled through qualifying sessions. Please post in this thread if you're interested, we'll have a sign up thread up soon!

Well I was thinking of a midweek evening slot, around 19:00 or 20:00 GMT? Mostly because people aren't already in series on those days. If nobody else could do that, it would have to be Saturday or Sunday night.

Anyhow, I'm going to start organizing it. Will post on Race Series forum when it's finished, just hope it's popular  Surprised it's not been done before really.

I tried starting an IndyCar series a few months back. I'd definitley be interested. I have the HP/weight specs to match the FGT to real IICS speeds.

That's awesome 👍 I probably won't be starting it for a few weeks but if you've got any ideas or anything let me know, I'm new to organizing race leagues :)

I was going to try and get some ideas, and do it as my first GT series. But that said, you can start one if you want mate :P

Well if you want we can team up and work together to get a league going. I'd like to get a good group of guys together and run multiple seasons. I.E. Season 1 could be a touring car championship, 2 could be FIA GT, 3 could be DTM, etc. Have 1 off events like the Indy 500 and Daytona 500. Special drifting and rally events. I have some good ideas just need to get people interested.

I can't really commit to organizing a multi-season series cause I've just started my GCSE's so I've got a lot of work :( But I'd try and join if you started one.

No freekin' way, I am currently about half way through putting all my data together to get this exact thing up and running.

I currently run in a very successful NASCAR series, that is this week going to have its' final Chase event (75 laps at Daytona). This is run on restrictor plates (502 BHP) for authenticity, and I wanted to start an Indycar Series to run before or in conjuction with this.

I have already spoken to the guy who currently runs a FGT Series, and he was happy for me to proceed (as could have caused an issue) but as mine would be Indy, and very much based in the US, then he was cool.

I am a NASCAR petrol head but also a major enthusiast of all US formats.

What I would say is that well done on the different weights for road and oval, but bear in mind the use different BHP for each as well.

In respect of tyres I am moving towards a compulsory pitstop changing from the Hards to Softs, or vice versa (whatever you start and qualify on).

This may or may not be the case, but if I am involved in the setup of the series with you guys, then there may be more chance that some of my NASCAR league friends will also join.

So please consider this. I am all for being involved in the setup of the league and happy to share all ideas and views. I have not set up a league before but am aware how they work and what needs to be done. My issues are getting it looking good on site, and my driving capabilities on road courses :yuck:

I have now put this in my Subscriptions - let's make this work.

Well I have the site and I know how to operate a league. Let's figure out a time and day andget this going. I've been a huge IndyCar fan since I was little so I know what it would take to make it authentic. Check out the site I have posted above. Get some of your NASCAR friends involved and we could have a series going in no time.

Sign me up if its a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday night. Got DTM on Tuesdays and want to fill out my 'working away from home' nights with some GT5 racing.

Yeah sounds good guys, I suppose I won't be doing all the work if there's 3 of us :P I'd be happy to run it together with both of you since I haven't got much experience making series. And just an idea, we might as well take it seriously and do a longer season?

I thought it was Montegi myself but could be.

I'll check out your site mate, couldn't open it at work.

Yeah I thought it was Montegi, so we might as well have a Japanese track in the schedule :)

It is Motegi. They usually race the oval but because of the earthquake they're using the road course. It's actually next on the schedule. I'll work on making a 10 race schedule up and race times/dates.

Yeah sounds good, I do think we should give the race's proper names instead of '75 laps at Indianapolis' ...just for the coolness and authenticity ;) Also, a constructors (team) championship seems a good idea.

Yes on real names, yes on teams. I already have four different coloured FGTs in preparation, and maybe choose real life teams if we can manage that.

Tues eves are definately best for me, start the race schedule then we can all decide on it.

Use real points system as well?

Yeah real teams and points is a good idea, leading laps and pole points aswell. We could sort it out later but how about weekends maybe?

My website already has the IndyCar points structure. I like the teams idea as well. I'll do some testing tonight. Planning on a 10 race schedule with Indianapolis as the headliner. Here's my rough draft:

45-60 minute races. Room opens at 8:30pm EST (GMT-5)
Podium finishers recieve prizes (car parts, paints, helmets, suits, etc.)
Indianapolis winner receives 500,000cr prize car
Championship winner receives 1,000,000 prize car

Road course races will be real life HP/weight to the Dallara
Indianapolis will be true weight with HP adjusted to match real life speeds.

One of the drawbacks is the 7 speed gearbox as the Dallara has 6. So we can either allow 7th gear or have a gentlemen's agreement to not use 7th.

I'll make some changes to the website tonight to prepare for the series. Would it be better to make sign ups on the league site or in the forums here?

That all sounds good, my original race ideas came in at just under an hour anyway. And we could share out the prize giving 👍 I think forums would be more easier and more accessible, also where are you LV? UK or US? :P

I'm in the US. My main account is 20,000,000cr so I'll be able to handle the major prizes. I've just updated the website. After I do some testing tonight I'll put up a new thread in the online racing section here at GTP. Would anyone like a sign up thread on the league site as well? Here is the site again.

Check out the rules and regulations page. Let me know if there is anything you would suggest adding or don't agree with. I took those from the league I used to race in on GTR2 for the PC. Very organized professional racing league.

Also, if you guys wanna add me on PSN my name is the same here, LVracerGT. We can set up a time to meet and test in my lounge.

Ok, I was thinking weekend races might be better if you're in the US, with us in the UK weekday nights might get tricky. 1 thing, we could always get rid of mics if it helps with connections. It all sounds good though, apart from the fact I'll be at the back of the pack as I'm driving an FGT with all assists off on a DS3, bad times :P

I have a pretty good stable connection. I've never had a problem with mics on. If it does happen tho we could implement that. What time is 9pm EST for you guys?

I'm not sure exact but it's at least 1 or 2am, so not really doable. That's why I suggested a Saturday or Sunday.
