Hi guys

I have asked Darin if he and/or Thomas would answer a few questions from users if gtplanet as well as my own site.

Darin is likely to be answering questions due to Thomas being ib China.

You can ask whatever you like as long as it is about fanatec and there current products and future products.

I will send off the best questions a week on Monday :)

Post away..

An example question:

How many wheel rims for the CSW are fanatec going to produce.? And how easy would it be for another company/modders to make custom rims for the clubsport wheel.

Ask Darin what he wants to be when he grows up and what his favourite colour is.

I would like to know when I can expect to receive the new 706 firmware for my CSR wheel. I have contacted Fanatec about this but haven't heard a reply in about a week. Thanks in advance Darin/Thomas! :) The CSR is stellar 👍

Why use a normal code wheel on the CSR Elite and CSW and not use a magnetic one? It's like using harddrive and CSP technology in a different way. The precision would have been shocking to the world I think.

What do the individual motors in the CSR Elite and CSW do each, since one drives a big wheel on the axle and the other a smaller one? I reckon this splits the force feedback effects, is this true? And if so does this allow Fanatec more control over the effects via the firmware (tweaking it with future updates)?

Will Fanatec please contact Microsoft reguarding offering backwards compatability for these wheels on the new consoles coming out next year? I'd hate to drop all this money and cant use it on next gen console that is currently in developement

PRODUCT:

  • Do Fanatec have any plans to allow players to alter the linearity of the Pedals from the wheel firmware, when connected to the wheel? (better throttle/clutch/brake control)
  • Will there be a new table clamp available for the new CSR-E Wheel when it ships?
  • Do Fanatec see a future product range where third party's can interface with the wheel and provide fanatec approved add-ons that add to the experience?

GENERAL:
  • Since Microsoft and Immersion collaborated in 1999 to create a force feedback standard, and as we now have the Direct X standard for FFB, Where do Fanatec see the future of Force/tactile feedback going?
    1. Will we see some standard emerging other than the 12 or so effects available to date? Or is the refinement in the way we use these the way forward?
    2. How is it differing from DirectX and the consoles?
  • Following from the invite from Turn10 to build a Wheel for Forza and some work with Codemasters on F1 2011. will we see more closer work between Fanatec and the game Studio's or Is the future in working closer with say Sony and Microsoft to advance the standards and ultimately the feel and immersion?

Could you ask when Fanatec expect new stock of the replacement load-cells for the original Clubsport Pedals please?

There is obviously going to be a next generation of consoles. Currently, as I understand it the 360 uses a different protocol than the PS3 and PC. What would the next generation xbox need to do in order to be compatible with the CSW? Would the CSW be able to (need to) be updated pending something changing on the xbox side?

I would like more information about the quick release system. What type of plug does it use? Would it be possible for the modding community to design there own wheels from readily available components?

How will PS3 compatibility be handled with the CSW/CSRE? Since few, if any, games will be officially supported, how will mapping buttons go? Same as other Fanatec wheels? Will every CSW wheel be compatible with the PS3?

That is it for now.

I can't even make changes to my site as I have broke my laptop charger LOL so this is an exclusive gtp qa LOL and I'll just publish these onto my site when I get a new charger as I think that's the problem

Could you release some more info about the ClubSport Shifter and maybe also the ClubSport Handbrake?
Also what should we expect from the CSS in comparison to other popular shifters on the market today (TM and Frex shifters for example)?
Will there also be testing rounds for these products in the future in which people can participate like with your wheels?
How do you see the market for sim gear in the future, say 5 to 10 years?
With sim games becoming more and more real, do you reckon we will hit the limit of what the standard force feedback protocol can reproduce?

Also a side question. Why aren't the motors in the Fanatec wheels used to reproduce the rumble of the engine and such in the wheel?

Hi Guys,

I posted this on the 911 Wheel blog and got some help from Simracer92 but wasn't entirely clarified. Anyways I understand Beta Testers who were voted by their respective communities such as here and forzamotorsport.net have already been sent there wheels but what about those who applied through thomas's blog? Have the applicants over there been notified of there acceptance. If I haven't been emailed yet is it safe to say I didn't make it?

Thanks Guys, Kishan

Just wondering how they plan on marketing their complete product line into companion packs so we don't have to pay full retail to buy everything a la carte. In other words, they said they weren't going to bundle the CSR,then they came out with the value pack. So can we expect a clubsport wheel+clubsport pedals+ clubsport shifter type pack, an CSW Elite wheel and pedal pack, and so forth? It makes more sense to package some likewise items together in one box not just for shipping, but for a number of marketing reasons. Why else would they name them accordingly...

Thomas only wrote that they will not offer a bundle with CSP and CSR E or CSW. He never said that they will not offer a CSR value pack or the CSR stuff with the GT3 RS.

- What is the most expensive component in the CSW/CSRE?
- Could you give a list of all the materials in the CSW/CSRE (ie plastics, aluminum, etc)?
- How many man/women hours does it take to make one CSW/CSRE?
- What is happening to the CSPv2?
- What do you think is the biggest competition to Fanatec?
- Do you think we will every reach a day when you can get a console, game and ffb wheel/pedal set for less than $300? In other words, what will it take for sim racing to be affordable to the mass market (not necessarily attractive)?

It would be neat to hear his idea for his company future expansion strategy. Like would he consider a second operational headquarters in the U.S. or elsewhere?

I can answer that,
When simracing stops being a niche in the gaming industry.

When simracers start to come close to the amount of people buying NFS then you will see prices going down.

The problem is getting simracing to be a massmarket. Something i doubt will ever happen.
