Is there any chance of adding to the IBTL sticky at the top of the Gt5 forum, about stating 'reported'? It seems to be the latest trend, then if you don't agree with someone else's post or thread, you just simply reveal that you have reported them and that's is it. For me that is trolling of the highest possible level.
It makes what could be a half sensible debate (that sometimes do exist) into a mini mod exercise.

Venture into the gt5 forum, look for a thread that may be slightly controversial to some. And its full of them. I try to avoid them to be honest, because of the fanboyism et al. Which sort of defies the point of going in there.

I go there to debate both sides of the fanboy train, but I didn't know this was happening. I don't understand why people can't handle this game and others being criticized in a constructive fashion.

If somebody reports a post and there are no AUP-related issues, then - and this is especially true if someone is trying to silence a poster who disagrees with them because they disagree - that person usually gets greeted with moderator action of their own for wasting the mods' time.

If they are aware thats the case, then then it is my point. People who IBTL, are asking for trouble. People who simply reply 'Reported' in a post should be asking for trouble, why say it? And if they do get a telling off, good.

Why not report it and leave it there. My take, is what most people do, to report and consider it dealt with. Not report, tell everyone I've reported it, then everyone else mentions that they have reported it.

Because it gives them power of sort I guess, I don't know. I just think there are many who don't care for the rules of GTP, which isn't right or they feel like some sort of public humiliation is warranted which is also wrong.

I think the problem is people just say reported and to try and comment before the thread is locked.

While we're at it, let's add that word to the list as well.

Every time I read or hear it I want to punch someone. :dopey:

I think I once told someone that I had reported their comment. I used the post as a way to tell them that what they were posting was against the AUP and was not really acceptable. I told him that I had reported the post in an effort to try to get him to change his ways. He didn't. Should I not have done that (posted to tell him he was in the wrong)?

On the rare occasion I report a thread I'll post something with reported at the end so everyone knows the thread has already been reported so (hopefully) they don't flame. But this tends to happen a great deal in the drag forum.

When people repeatedly wave the "fanboy flag" as a response (or as an excuse), then we point them at the direction of the woodshed. Keep doing it, and we eventually have to open the shed door for them.

Roughly half the reports we get warrant little, if any, investigation, for a variety of reasons.

Thanks PM that's good to hear
To be fair, I'm not up-to-date on the exact policy. It's been about a year since I gave up my moderator powers (though I do miss being able to update the Banned User Log), but if ever someone reported posts that had nothing wrong with them, and if they were reporting posts to try and get the moderators to shut down someone simple because the reporter disagreed with that person, then they usually got hit with the Banhammer Lite (moderator action, but not a ban). I'm pretty sure the others still do it.

How else would you like us to apply it? It's a general term, those who usually do what the OP is saying are of that category. If you don't like the term sorry, but the irrationality of those who do this crap are in question, not the term you so dislike.

Either way it's useful info.

I've remember a long time ago the moderators recommended that, when you report a post, you should note it in the thread so other people know, and the moderators don't get tons of reports on the same post.

How about not at all? 💡

How about I do!👍:dopey:. The majority of people I see do this do it because so one hurt their feeling by disagreeing or criticizing their ever so beloved GT5, that to be frank isn't the glitz and glamour it wants to be. If they didn't act a certain way people wouldn't get annoyed and potentially label them. You can equally ignore me though if you don't like it being said. I'm a GT fan but I'm not a zombie or sheep when I go about it, I'm critical to the bettering of the series/platform.

I agree with dhandes I'm tired of people doing this in the GT5 forum and not just learning how to have a lively debate.

Anyways moving on now.

From a thread where this happened, and then other members kept coming into the thread and doing the exact same thing:

If you gentlemen had read the full thread you would see that this point has already been addressed.

Further more the staff do not like members attempting to influence moderation actions, as such if you feel the need to report a thread then just do it. You do not need to shout it from the roof tops as well, particularly when you have failed to read moderation action in the thread already.

I guess you missed this....

Well, on one hand, we know if nothing good is going to come out of a thread's existence, when it constantly veers off-topic or never had one to begin with. Begging for a lock or threatening for a lock is the job of moderators and administrators only.

We prefer people to have a civil argument or discussion, and sometimes the best thing to do us ignore someone who is a troll, or hitting below the belt in a discussion. Reporting because you disagree is kind of childish, unless those attacking comments are much more sophmoric.

Even then, it never hurts to just shrug off occassional pessimistic posts, it only makes you a little stronger, and by not feeding their behavior, you make them weaker. Some people like to fervently debate minor points, because they're really minor people...don't fall into their trap.

There's also no reason to have more than one "Reported!" post, so if you see it, please don't feel the need to report it multiple times.
