Announcing the fourth of the weekly series of CAR OF THE WEEK!

A chance for everyone on GTPlanet to get behind the wheel of the same car, give it a thorough going over. The aim is to get people driving what they wouldn't usually drive, or have been overlooked. They may be great, they may be terrible, but as part of GT5 they deserve discussion right here.

People can show off their amazing photos, trade tuning tips, race one another and review that weeks nominated car. Lap times can be posted, top speeds and acceleration times compared and tips on handling discussed.

This is an experimental idea and the format is subject to change or development. The picking of the cars is still under discussion and any offers of help with this from anyone who has more GTPlanet experience than me (which is pretty much everyone!) would be very much appreciated.

So, without further ado, this weeks star car of the week.

Thanks to Milldrum efforts in last weeks COTY thread which can be found HERE, I nominated him to come up with the choice for this week. So this weeks superstar car is.....

Nissan Silvia 240RS (S110) '83

Boxy, different and very underused. Can't wait to hear what you all think of this one!

Ah, now this is something I've already reviewed.

And amazingly enough, I'll be featuring it again some time very soon.

Thing is though, it's not anything like a Nissan as people know them. That's what I'll say to start...

Nice! Another good pick... so far this thread is batting 1.000 for cars I haven't tried yet in GT5. @TMG, isn't this #5 for COTW?

Have a good one!

Nice call Milldrum.👍👍

Been meaning to tune one of these for a while now.

It's just sooooooo ugly. I tried painting it pink and it looked worse. I got it up to 500pp and it flew.

Enjoy your drives, but maybe on bumper cam so you don't need to see what you are driving.

I think it looks good with those flared wheel arches, might repaint mine chrome or matte!

Another COTW to look forward to.

I'm not sure I have one, but I'll see what this thing can do. :dopey:

It's in the OCD at the moment. I would recommend change the oil, maybe the wheels and some paint. But drive it stock. It needs a custom gearbox as it hits the rev limiter at 195km/h. But try it stock first.

Thanks. 👍. Once the wife and kids are asleep I hope to get in some GT5 time and run it stock.
Thanks again :dopey:

Indeed. Can't wait to get down on this one too!

If anyone wants to play tonight, I'll be on around 10:30p CST US. Send me a PM on the PSN, and I'll host a room.

Expect my review sometime this weekend, likely tonight.

Great choice!

Wow, I'm disapointed that I hadn't tried this one out before this. After doing a quick oil change and paint job, I took the car out in an A-spec race around Deep Forest (reverse) in the Japanese 80's Festival (Pro series) and was shocked on how quickly it left everyone behind.

So, pushing my luck a bit, I then took it out on Grand Valley and Suzuka in the Expert series Japanese Championship races. These last two races were way more competitive with the car still in stock form, but I won both even with the AI cars catching up on the longer stretches.

So far, this thread has led me to some hidden jewels, but this car has the wow factor hands down over the rest. Give this one a try if you haven't before... I can't wait to see what I can take on when I start adding some bolt-on upgrades. ;)

Have a good one

I can't tune. There, I said it. That's where this car is weird. Do I tune and potentially ruin it? Do I drive it and practice my drifting some more with the stock tyres? Or do I buy a second one and (tune) ruin that? I can't believe that I am going to own 2 of this car. :ill: But I have to.

Perfect your technique before you mess with the car. I recommend running some time trials over a variety of tracks. My favorites include, but are not limited to:

Tokyo
Cote D'Azure (Monaco)
Daytona- Road Coarse
Fuji F
Mazda Laguna Seca
Rome
Spa
Nurburgring GP
Nurburgring Nordschliefe
Eiger (tarmac, whichever that is)
Le Sarthe (Le Mans)
Suzuka (full)
Daytona (Speedway)

If you want to know what you and the car are capable, run 10 laps at each of these tracks (ok, maybe not Nordschiefe, but atleast 5 there). It will change your life.

After that, then you can tune, and you'll have the ultimate comparison of your tuning abilities, and a much better understanding of your driving.

I love this car....great and rare car to me. I might post pictures and write a review on it.

Don't forget it's rally cousin right next to it in the OCD as well. I've been taking photos all day. It sure is an ugly car.

Here is my small, (in my opinion terrible) review.

Nissan Silvia 240RS (S110) '83

The Nissan Silvia 240RS is in my opinion a awesome and rare car. We planned to take it out to the famous Nürburgring 24hr race track (nicknamed the “Green Hell”). First, we go to the local car shop named GT Auto and change the oil, plus give it an engine rebuild and rigidity restoration (if possible). At GT Auto, I asked the oil changing specialist to...well....change the oil. The oil change gave it 442 PP and 248 HP. After that, I went up to the engine rebuilding /rigidity restoration specialist. He said our car was fine, and it didn't need an engine rebuild or rigidity restore. So, we traveled to Nürburg, Germany, to test out our wonderful, newly restored 1983 Silvia.

The Silvia had a great start in the GP area of the track. Unfortunately, it only does 127mph, and gets there quickly.

At the 1st corner, I find out how well this car takes normally slow corners and transforms them into semi-high speed corners.

On the carousel-like corner, the Silvia was able to do 50mph.

When I approached the main part of the track, I see that this car is a great drifter, even on SH tires.

The 1st corner of the main area was great. This car never malfunctions if you're eager while exiting a corner. It also has great suspension.

We get to another straight, and the car reaches it's 127mph limit again.

The car again demonstrates it's perfect balance as it takes this corner at 90mph.

On the previous twisty road, the Silvia was still at it's top speed.

Skip all the way to the carousel, no smoke or malfunctions at all.

At the straight, the Silvia again reached it's top speed quickly.

In my opinion, the 1983 Silvia is a great car. It has great handling, speed, suspension, and grip (on SH tires).

Thanks for this!
We're considering racing this in the Vintage Car Race Club, & a couple of the guys have been pushing for it!
Never have tried it before myself, but as with all the cars in the current OCD, I snapped it up. It looks pretty interesting, and sounds like others are having fun with it!

And now we'll be forewarned not to consider putting it on any tracks with very long straights!

Gotta say, awesome choice!
This car handles perfectly, and has pretty good accel. Bought it yesterday at the UCD, just in time for a ride for the COTW :D

Wow this car is UGLY! Trying it stock was very good. A little tail happy, but not uncontrollable. Acceleration is okay and the handling was also very enjoyable. Just took it for a cruise around Dopey Downs (Clueless Tunes secret test track :dopey: ) and it is just a good car to drive. Maybe not a racer, but maybe I can make it one :D.

The Outlaw Rants
Okay by now most of you know I'm the Proprietor and Chief Outlaw of Harvey Wallbanger's Café & Outlaw Motorsports Garage infamy. Here's my first quick take on this weeks CotW.

Despite having nearly 2,000 cars in my main garage I was a bit surprised to find that in my efforts to remove the higher mileage cars and replace them with low mileage ones I had somehow sold off all the 240RSs that I had in storage. Quick trips to the Online Car Dealership with both my accounts netted me a pair of them along with a pair of the Rally Racers that this car was built as Homologation units for. The cars have an interesting boxy style, square lines and sharp creases instead of the more rounded looks expected in performance cars today. Unfortunately the stock white tends to be a bit much on this car for my tastes making all those angles really stand out so first thing was to get it into the paint shop. A good coat of Nissan's Grand Prix Maroon made a vast improvement, adding a pair of Enkei RP03 wheels painted in Nissan's Air Blue Pearl Metallic helped set it off nicely. An oil change and it was off to the 500PP Seasonal Challenge race at Nürburgring GP/D. Obviously at 442PP, 248HP and 182ft-lb torque completely stock other than the wheels and fresh paint the Wallbanger wasn't expecting a win or even a finish in the top half of the field. Well with a fast lap of 1:50.214 and very nice handling out of the stock suspension ole Harvey finished a surprising 5th. While the car can get a little loose in back that's generally under hard acceleration exiting corners and really that slight and very controllable oversteer can actually help rotate the car through the tighter corners a bit quicker letting you get on the throttle earlier than you can in most cars without fear of the rear end stepping completely out of line on you. Well encouraged by the cars handling an generally good performance stock the Wallbanger decided to see how cheaply he could win this race. Installation of a New ECU, Racing Air Filter, Sports Catalytic Converter and Sports Exhaust brought it up to 462PP, 291HP and 202ft-lbs torque. Back on the track ole Harvey moved up to 4th, but with a 1:49.034 best lap and the stock Sports Hard tires shrieking in protest for much of the race it looked like more power by itself was unlikely to produce a win for the Wallbanger. Adding a set of Sports Soft tires saw the lap times tumble in dramatic fashion with the Wallbanger turning in a best lap of 1:43.643 and going from 4th place some 10+ seconds behind 1st, to winning the race going away with a lead of over 6 seconds on 2nd place.

So far this is a very nice car with great handling on its stock suspension. Only real issue with it is the fairly low top speed using the stock gearbox.

Now I'm off to see just how much performance can be squeezed out of this boxy beauty. Hoping to find low 1:30s at Nürburgring GP/D using the same tires and bringing the car up to or near the 500PP limit.

Watch for future reports and some pictures of "Pandora's Box".👍👍
