Well...about time I started up again. Ever since my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback failed inspection and was sold as a parts car... :(

At this moment, I currently have the Camry. However, my parents are set on having me take my brother's current 1999 Honda Accord... :ouch: Of which has had issues and of course the youngest one gets the lowest hand-me down. But here's the Camry...from October 2011. Looks exactly the same (and for those who know about my stupid idea that I had...I put the hubcaps back on...)

Now, for the more exciting stuff that people would likely be more interested in. :D My (possibly) 1971 Toyota Crown! Found on craigslist one night out of boredom and came across it. Before that, my friend/co-worker (that I only meet about a month ago at my new job and quickly became friends) had suggested I should look into a project car if I don't want to die of boredom from the Camry (now, probably the Accord). So with that in mind, I just contacted the person who put up the ad (a friend of the owner). I just couldn't resist a Japanese classic and it was definitely something I thought was worth restoring. Brought it up to my friend (name: Kyle) and to my stupid surprise, agreed that it'd be a great candidate for a project!

Last Saturday (8/4/12) we went up to have a look at the car, no real set price that I was looking for (Advertised at $950, talked down to $850 that time) and was hoping it would turn out to be clean and contain little rust. And our wishes came true. :D Fell in love with the car quite a bit through the pictures, but in person. It was just an epic sight.

And finally, today. Quite a long process, drove to the bank in the morning to get the $800 that I was able to get it down to, was hoping for more off, but the owner wouldn't go lower... Drove to my friend's shop, took his grandfather's Silverado pickup. Drove to the hardware store to pickup the trailer but forgot the hitch... Drove back picked up the trailer and returned to pick it up. Once again, drove back to my friend's shop to get supplies for loading the car and securing it with one of his friend's coming to help out. The three of us stuffed in the single cab Silverado and drove up for an hour or more with the trailer (with some shenanigans,). Got there, car was already out of the barn and sitting in the dirt parking lot. Loaded it up and drove on back to the workshop. Oh...and we did feel like "attention whores" driving it around. People gave us some honks and people were definitely turning heads as we drove pass. Enjoy the pictures! They will be in chronological order of events. :) Warning a lot of pictures!

Arriving and pick-up.

And finally, arriving at the my friend's workshop and putting the car at the workshop:

That Crown's beautiful. Nice car!
Have you decided what engine to get for it?

Yup, a Toyota Supra 2JZ-GTE Twin Turbo with an automatic gearbox (no hate please? :P). For $1600 with transmission, ecu, harness, and all the other necessities. And shipping's included in the price.

Sounds fun!

Great pictures, mate. Once again, congrats on the purchase. 👍

And lol at the record player and eight tracks on the seat.

There's a new thread?

8-track, gotta love it! Nice new pictures, a person can get a batter feel for the car now. What I can't understand is how they went from producing nice little cars like that to the ugly plastic scrap they build today? The Crown has way more class, better styling, ect.

Yeah, we're planning on definitely upgrading the brakes and drivetrain. Styling is great, but considering modern standards on safety, it really has ruined cars of today. Unsafe = stylish I suppose.

No? I just wanted to know what engine it had. I've heard the V6 is very boss.

Haha, I was kidding about the 2.2L stuff, it just seems to be a new "trend" going around ever since one gtplanet member's been talking about how fast their Camry is. It's an LE four-cylinder. I am tempted to get Camry SE headlights of that generation. The plastic-chrome look bothers me...

Really wish I brought the Camry to my friend's workshop. Maybe get some side by side pictures. But my dad took it out to get a tire rotation and had me take his van.

Oh you bought the Crown! Nice! I like the idea of a 2J swap. I'd personally put in a manual and do a drift build, not many Crowns are seen drifting. Though even if it's an auto, I wouldn't complain about a 2JZ in a Crown! Good luck!

You and me have the similar thoughts. I was thinking about a drifting Crown myself since the last few days. A 2JZ, drift D1 Crown, with a rollcage and some Bride ZetaIII seats and Takata harness. :embarrassed:

Good luck with the build Medigo. ;)👍

Don't be absurd you two. Look at how absolutely good and original that car is. It isn't missing A THING. The chrome trim, the emblems, the entire interior, the original seats, door panels, it's all there. It's not like he found a freaking carcass to put over a tube frame. You cannot overbuild such a survivor.

Yes I know it's got no engine, but that is no reason to exagerate the lenghts of the build. The lack of an engine and gearbox opens up a world of streetability for the car in the form of a modern engine/trans combo which will make it easy for the car to cruise around, make some decent power and get ooohs and aaahs at shows and stuff; heck, even daily driving it if he wanted.

Building it for something as demanding and punishing as drifting would most likely destroy the most charming aspect of the car: how freaking good it has remained for so many years. I really, REALLY think (and encourage) the survivor condition of the car should be respected and just modernize the parts that will allow Medigo to drive it safely everywhere.

Thanks guys! First step will likely be just cleaning up the car itself and possibly refurbishing the chrome trim. Vaccumed the interior yesterday after it arrived at the workshop. :D

As Cano said, I'm not trying to do anything ridiculous with it. A cruiser is all I'm looking for. Why ruin a car that's just so original with the condition we found it in. It's too good to become a drift pig. :P You don't need to drift a car to have fun, it's all about the character of the car itself.

Wow... you're right. That car is in far too good of condition for drifting.

Yep, Cano and Medigo is right. The car is in good condition here. That's was one of my wacky ideas coming out again:crazy::lol:.

It's fine, I can understand the excitement of a classic Japanese RWD sedan going drifting. But at it's age, I think I'll keep it as pristine as possible.

As soon as you start trying to go sideways in this thing its going to rattle to pieces. These were never meant to do anything other than cruise. But in saying that, a 2J will make it good for burnouts!
