Steward's Notes:
"There’s a time in the WRS where it’s every man for themselves, and then there are times where the strength of a team is dependent on everyone pulling their own weight – this is one of those times. It’s time to strap yourself in and prepare to tackle one of the more unique WRS challenges that will be seen this year as you prepare to celebrate 100 weeks of 3D3 Racing." --Terronium-12

Drivers will form country/region based teams consisting of 3-4 drivers and compete in a two round bracket style competition to determine which team will lay claim to the inaugural WRS World Cup Title. Drivers from all divisions and skill levels are welcome and encouraged to participate. The points system will utilize each drivers handicap in order to level the playing field and encourage teams to balance their rosters.

Key Features:
  • Country based teams of 3-4 drivers
  • Team-based qualification
  • Points system which factors in driver handicaps (from the official registry)
  • Two rounds with team advancement/relegation
  • One-make event with tuning prohibited

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry run the GTP_Registry qualifier and join now!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:
  • Click the registration button above, fill-in and submit the online registration form (use your GTP_ tag ID)
  • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Send a PSN friend request to GTP_3D3Racing, GTP_3D3_A and GTP_3D3_B from your GTP_tag account.
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.

Teams

If you have arranged a team already specify the team name in your registration and the system will group you automatically. Note that the team name is case sensitive and must be specified exactly the same for all drivers on the team. Drivers without a team affiliation should sign up as free agents and should either organize a team with other free agents or contact the appropriate country/region teams about joining.

Teams should consist of 3 or 4 drivers and be individual country based if possible. I.e. If there are available drivers from your county you should join in on a team before expanding out to the region. Countries with too few drivers to form a team can merge with countries close in proximity and form region based teams (e.g. Team Nordic). Countries with more than 4 drivers should form multiple teams (e.g. Team USA Red, Team USA blue).

Team rosters can be changed right up until a qualifying has been attempted at which point they become final.

As the event nears the admins will make sure to accommodate every confirmed free agent and make sure they can take part no matter where they reside or how the teams stack up.

Tournament Structure
Please note that regardless of the outcome of round 1 (Fuji), all teams and drivers will advance to round 2 (Spa).

Pre-Qualifying:
  • Each team and driver must pre-qualify for the event
  • Each team is then assigned a seeding based on the average of the top 3 drivers qualification times
  • Drivers that fail to qualify by the deadline will start behind all qualifiers ranked by handicap. As for the team average for seeding, drivers missing the qualifying deadline will be assigned the time from the slowest driver on the team plus a 2 second penalty (only the top 3 are averaged per team so there may be no impact on the team). Basically, don't miss the deadline.

Round 1:
  • Lounge Assignments: Team lounge assignment determined by qualification seed (Snaking System: e.g. 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D, 5=D, 6=C, 7=B, 8=A, 9=A, etc.)
  • Starting Order: Determined by pre-qualifying fast laps for each individual driver
  • Points: Sum of top 3 drivers per team (after driver handicap multiplier applied to finishing base points)

Round 2:
  • Lounge Assignments: Team lounge assignment determined by points earned in round 1 (top/middle/bottom brackets)
  • Starting Order: Determined by pre-qualifying fast laps for each individual driver
  • Points: Sum of top 3 drivers drivers per team (after driver handicap multiplier AND bracket multiplier applied to finishing position points)

Overall Results:
  • Team rankings determined by sum of points from both rounds
  • Ties are unlikely due to the multipliers, but in cases of a tie:
    • First tie breaker is number of wins for the team
    • Second tie breaker is number of 2nd places for the team
    • etc.

Qualification
  • Each team will qualify together in an observed pre-qualifying race setup with at least one approved qualifying steward present to verify the room settings and green flag the laps (via replay since they can't watch every driver at once).
  • The qualifying race will be set to 5 laps: one un-timed out-lap, two timed laps, one un-timed in-lap, plus one buffer lap so the race end timer never gets tripped.
  • Drivers are allowed to assist each other via draft (pulling or bumping) if they choose.
  • Drivers will be allowed to reverse off the grid and position themselves on the final corner prior to their out lap. But after this initial setup, no driver can go backwards again, but otherwise they can proceed as dictated by their "assist" strategy. Examples:
    • Relay: The first driver proceeds on his out-lap, while the others reverse and park on the final corner. As that first driver approaches his first hot lap one of the parked drivers begins his out lap and at the same time provides a draft assist, getting out of the way if desired prior to turn 1 or continuing to pull...
    • Train: Fastest driver goes first and pulls a 2nd driver.
    • No Assist: Drivers spread out and avoid draft as well as any possible interference.
    • Combination of the above.
  • Normal track boundary rules and penalties apply to each driver.
  • The final buffer lap can be used to assist, but take care not to cross the finish at the end of that lap. If the race finish timer is tripped that's the fault of the team and they will suffer if they can't complete their hot laps.
  • Drivers/teams may choose to forgo the team qualifying and run a solo session. By choice or because they prefer to run solo.
  • Any driver that DC's during a team qualification session before completing a single timed lap can qualify solo, but will only get one timed lap in their make-up quali race. Once a hot lap is completed no re-runs are allowed.

Scheduling a Qualifying Session

Drivers should post to the thread requesting a steward to observe their qualifying run and the day/times you would be available. To maximize the chance of making a match with a steward please provide a few times and give a bit of up front notice. Stewards may also post that they have qualifying rooms ready in case anyone is ready to qualify. During those steward prompted sessions the lounge will be set up for free run practice until someone is ready to qualify. Drivers are welcome to practice during these sessions and observe others qualification runs. All qualifying runs must take place in private lounges (not public lobbies).

Points System
  • Base Points: A function of finishing position and number of drivers in lounge:
    WorldCup_PointsCurves-1.png
  • Handicap Multiplier: Applied to base points for each driver based on registry handicap using formula:
    driverhandicapcurve.png
  • Bracket Multiplier: Applied to base points for each individual driver based on round 2 bracket:
    • If there are 2 lounges: Top (A) = 2.00, Bottom (B) = 1.00
    • If there are 3 lounges: Top (A) = 3.00, Medium (B) = 1.75, Bottom (C) = 1.00
    • If there are 4 lounges: Top (A) = 3.00, 2nd (B) = 2.10, 3rd (C) = 1.45, Bottom (D) = 1.00

Formation Lap
  • All drivers should exit track after the order is announced and enter the pits. When all drivers are in the pits a steward will start the race.
  • After the system places you on the grid drivers should proceed into stagger formation in order.
  • Pole sitter will choose his/her preferred side of the track.
  • There should be no overlap between cars in the staggered formation.
  • Fuji: Speed limit near end of formation lap is 62 mph / 100 km/h and pole sitter should maintain this speed (or less) to keep pack together, in particular in the final sector.
  • Spa: Speed limit near end of formation lap is 50 mph / 80 km/h and pole sitter should maintain this speed (or less) to keep pack together, in particular in the final sector.
  • Weaving or other tire warming procedures are NOT allowed during the formation lap.
  • Pole sitter will exit the last corner and take care to give enough time to allow all cars behind to safely exit the final corner. In the case of spa, take the final chicane slow and packed and pole sitter slowly build to 80 kph.
  • The pole sitter should start the race by accelerating to race pace at the start/finish line.
  • All other drivers should accelerate after the driver in front of you does so.
  • No passing is allowed before the start marker.
  • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated.

Pit Guidelines
  • Pits are open and stops are optional, but may be required to complete the race based on fuel consumption and/or tire wear.
  • Drivers are responsible for determining their fuel consumption, tire wear and ultimate pit strategy. Discussion of this strategy in the thread is encouraged but not required.
  • Be aware that when "Tire Wear/Fuel Consumption" is set to "Fast" or "Very Fast" that the system's fuel add recommendations will be wrong. In this case you need to do your own testing and calculations prior to the race to ensure you add the proper amount of fuel to make it to the end of the race.
  • Safe Pit Entry: Drivers must keep all four tires within the white lines on pit road entry and must avoid contact with walls. There is no specific speed limit on entry, but the driver will need to slow significantly in order to stay within the boundaries and avoid wall contact. If the boundaries are crossed or wall contact is made the driver can avoid penalty by lifting off the throttle completely for 2 seconds after the car is released from the pits to "self-penalize" otherwise a 10 second penalty will be incurred after the race.
  • Safe Pit Exit: Drivers must keep all four tires within the white lines (to the right) on pit road exit and cannot cross over to the left of the track until after the white has ended. Also, even after the white line, the driver exiting the pits is responsible to make a safe entry onto the track and must "yield" to oncoming traffic.
  • Traffic not entering/exiting the pits must stay to track side of the white lines and are not allowed on the pit entry/exit areas except to avoid collisions. Drivers cannot follow another driver entering the pits into this area to draft and cannot drive into the area to avoid being drafted if they are not pitting.

Track Boundary Guidelines

Drivers are expected to do their best to stay within track boundaries per the OLR. Mistakes happens over the course of a long race and the random off or two will be overlooked in most instances, but if a pattern of boundary abuse is observed penalties will be handed out which include 15 seconds for a "minor" pattern of abuse, 30 seconds for a "substantial" pattern of abuse, and a DQ for "complete disregard" of track boundaries. In cases where penalties may not impact the driver (e.g. DC), the penalty may be carried over to the next event and may be applied as a 5 (minor) or 10 (major) grid spot penalty.

It's up to the admins' discretion exactly what qualifies as "minor", "substantial" or "complete disregard". Going outside the rumble by a centimeter isn't as serious as a car length wide excursions into the run off area. Factors such as dirty air and traffic also come into play. If you find yourself going wide then the next lap you're expected to slow down a bit more to make sure you stay within boundaries. If you make the same mistake multiple times and you want to avoid a penalty you can always self-penalize during the race by lifting for a very brief period upon returning to the track. Continuing to hammer the throttle after repeated boundary overruns may very well end with a post race penalty.

General Guidelines:
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
Track Specific Guidelines:

Fuji F:

TBD

Spa:

Spa-boundary-guidelines.jpg

Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:
  • Unless otherwise specified, all rules from the original WRS event apply.
  • You are expected to drive clean at all times as if you are racing in the WRS. All participants are required to follow the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines.
  • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to kick out or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are kicked out of the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
  • No hybrids - if you're caught using a hybrid or attempting to enter a hybrid onto the track during an official event you will be banned from all future 3D3 Racing events.
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. Be especially careful when you are on older tires than the competition as the speed difference may be significant. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

Cool, that looks like a pretty fast team.. curious to see what the PURE EU team is going to look like. :scared:

Any chance Aderrrm comes out of "GT5-retirement" for this one?

Great car, my 5rd most driven car in the game, and it wasn't even a car for a GTP series. And SPA is a fun track for draft team work.

Both Spa and Fuji were chosen with team drafting in mind. TBH, we are not 100% certain which layout of Fuji will be used yet, but leaning heavily toward Fuji F.

PS> I'll fill out the registration doc for Eddie and Tim so your team shows up as posted above.

 thanks.... I was going to get to that. The proxy at work blocks google docs.

maybe... He's a 5th man, interested if we need him; but IIRC he's going to be on holiday in August.

Yes, love this car and the tracks! There are a lot of drivers signing up for the World cup, and that's great! Some very fast teams!:nervous:

Team USA Blue has 2 reserve drivers (fast drivers) hope they can make it, and Jared is fast, so if it stays this way, very happy with the team I am on. If not I will be happy anywhere.:)

Even if I don't get to race, I want to help practice. In a couple weeks, I will start to pm the guys, and see if we can put together some team practices.👍 (unless some one gets a hold of me first)

Tim, on the car, I bought a new one had it race modified (no other changes) ran it in the Indy 5oo for 89 laps, which gave me 223.7 miles (360.0 km). Changed the oil, and I end up with 660hp at 92.2%pl and 641pp. Is there a typo, or did I do some thing wrong? Thanks, I know your out of town, but was just wondering.

Looks like we had a miscommunication between us stewards about the exact value for the power limiter %, most likely. But the HP value we were all testing was 650hp, so drop it down a little more. We'll edit the OP ASAP. Good catch. 👍

August 10th is definitely sketchy in terms of me making it. I've got family coming in to town that day, but they'll be here for the entire week, so I might be able to race.

If I find out I'm not able to, I'll remove myself from the team I'm on so someone else could take the spot.

👍
Guess we can start practicing with the team. :)

Yes Christophe, let me know when you would have the time to practise.

I am also suggesting we use following teamcolours : Yellow/black body and red rims....

If i work on my accent, can i keep my orange one?:lol:

On another note, its looking less possible that i can make the race, renovation at the house that weekend, but still hoping. Anyway i will certainly join practice races!

curious to see what the PURE EU team is going to look like. :scared:

I'll be in for sure

My predictions are:

Michouw (1.682)
se.gif
Denilson (1.936)
uk.gif
Biffy (2.014)
fr.gif
Litchi (2.091)

But nothing certain for the moment.

By the way, does that mean I'm almost in D1 Bronze?

I'm a hundred procent sure I'm not going to make it. I'm on holiday and I return a couple of days later, like the 15th... well that is just unfortunate. Have a good race though!

you guys think we can have a reserve team , i mean team without having the same nationalities etc..

you guys think we can have a reserve team , i mean team without having the same nationalities etc..

If there are several "free agents" after all teams form up then yes. We will just wait until we get closer and make new teams from free agents.

To be honest we will have to handle reserves also. Since this is a team event guys who can't confirm will have to be handled by their team.

My vote for Team USA is to set a date... Say, July 25 and ask drivers to confirm by that date. If they can't we may have to re shuffle so all confirmed drivers are assigned teams and reserves are either the 4th driver or even demoted to alternates. Can't have a team where just 2 guys show up so there just isn't as much flexibility as our normal events for reserves drivers just to show up if they can. There has to be some level of commitment by a certain date in a team based event like this.

I just noticed you moved the times forward an hour (from 8GMT to 7GMT), is this the final time?

No, actually... it should be 20:00 GMT... I meant to bring up maybe moving it up in case we wanted to make the event a bit longer with all the teams, but I think at this point we're just going to stick to two 40-45 minute rounds with a break in the middle so the original 20:00 GMT should work.

Given the positive response to this, it's likely we'll revisit this concept in an expanded way last year with a more "full blown" tournament structure. But we'll see how this goes first.

PS> I'd be open to moving to 19:00 GMT if there was a strong preference for that time, but I think sticking to 20:00 GMT is best given people signed up with that assumption.

Thanks Lucas, when i get home tonight I'll drop it down and see where we are at.

Well, I would prefer 7pm GMT (or earlier), but if I'm the only one, then just scrap this .

Ok. 20:00 GMT is best for me personally.
