I had to do it!

So I'm attempting the 2nd & 3rd Pikes Peak Hill Climb races and I've tried several cars. Finally, I had to do it. I plunked down 2,000,000 credits and bought an Estupido. I mean, what other way is there to win these? :(

The Suzuki Cultus, it took me about 10-12 times to beat the Escudo with it, though.

That's about it.

The only other cars with dirt tires and a power-to-weight ratio that will prove a match for it is an FTO LM or a Del Sol LM. I've tried both and couldn't come within 15-20 seconds either Suzuki Special.

The R34s just understeer too much in the dirt; they weighh too much despite their max power.

ok im going to say this once the escudo sucks the only thing its good for is a 400 m run, com on i mean the tuscan speed 12 and the nissan r390 road car smoke it, any way a skyline will do the job with ease.

How well does the Speed 12 handle off-road?

As far as I know, there aren't very many cars or should I say any car that can beat the Escudo except the Escudo. (or maybe the Cultus)

Okay, I'm over it now. Sorry y'all for my outburst! :/ I look at it this way: the Escudo & Cultus were made for Pikes Peak, so I don't feel so bad anymore just buying one just to finish a couple races. Oh well, it's only play money.

I wouldn't be so down on this model if GT2's wacky tire rules would apply to it the way they apply to other cars (in other words, you can take a Corvette to the tracks, but you can't race it in the dirt since it won't accept rally tires). They shoulda made the Escuso a rally car only...the way it is in real life.

If you could equip them with dirt tyres...
Even on tarmac, the Speed 12 has some traction problems, the escudo 4wd doesn't...
No other car has better power/weight ratio than the Escudo... (except maybe the dragsters... but i think not... )

In my opinion the best car for dirt races, forgetting the two Suzukis, it's the Lancer Evo VI, with about 600hp and a good weight it's a great car. I even like to drive it on tarmac. :D

i get the escudo every once in a while to see if my tuning skills have gotten any better, i try to beat the magical 7 second 400m.. so far no luck but my record is something like 8.050 :ouch:

I DONT KNOW IT WAS NEVER oops sorry. I don't know, it was never as popular as its big brother. Nobody ever talks about the Cultus, it's always the Excuse-o. :)

Actually, the Cultus and Escudo descended from the heavens as the mortal offspring from the union of the lovely Suzuki and Izanagi, who had to disguise himself as a swan to get the attentions of her.

Anyways, the sons Escudo and Cultus fought the mountian hermits of Pikes Peak in the First Colordao War. Poor Cultus was killed in the ensuing battle, and Escudo lived on my asking Suzuki if it could live on forever in the stars, or at least, Gran Turismo.

At least, that's my reason for the continued existence of the Escudo. Did you also know Escudo means "coat-of-arms" and "tourniquet" in Spanish?

Oh my god, you crack me up sometimes, Pupik.

I just figure if you don't have a logical answer, a completely ironic, humorous, and illogical one will do as well. It tests some people's mettle, too. Plus, strangers won't ask you to watch thier children.

Cool Story

I usually buy the Escudo just so I don't risk my 100% win percentage ...

I have beaten it with a del Sol LM once before ... Took me many tries, though ... I'll see if I can do it again tomorrow ...

Lol, That's great stuff!

i did it easily riding the walls with the escudo

Hey not to state the obvious, but this thread is supposed to be about winning the Pike's Peak uphill without an Escudo. Can it be done? Also, ‘riding the walls’ is pretty much frowned upon by most racers here. But you're new. Welcome.

first time in GT2 section

i think one of the best cars in GT2 i think is the Escudo

It is 2 things: it is one of the fastest and it is the best car to cheat with. If you take it to any race outside of Pike's Peak uphill races #2 and 3, you're basically cheating.

There's a Cultus lake around here. Cultus is a local native word (there's something like 50 native languages in the local area), IIRC it means something like bad/cursed. In the case of the lake, it's called this because there's supposed to be a bear spirit living in the lake that occationally gets pissed off and drowns people. There are reputedly many cases of unexplained drownings there, but that's probably true of any lake where people commonly go to get really drunk, bear spirit or no.
I don't know if Suzuki thinks they made it up, or what, but it's a wierd name for a car.

(I'm not making this up.)

MEGA BUMP MODE

Interesting. I bet Suzuki has a story to tell on this one.

^Some of those times are impressive, more so when you consider the vehicles used.

The Escudo is an animal in GT2 with hardly any turbo lag, it just grips and fly's. Worth the hefty price tag for comedy value alone.
I felt it was a bit watered down in GT3, I was a bit disappointed when I didn't reach the speed of sound by third gear like in GT2 :).

Wonderfully-written story. But how did it get killed? (Flat tire at 140mph, no doubt)

As for the Escudo, I have beaten it in a Cultus. Braking techniques are very different, though; if the Escudo was a live opponent instead of a ghost, the event would be easier...
