Nurburgring Challenge *POST YOUR TIMES*

The new Nurburgring Challenge is hereby open!

The idea here is to compete with Nurburgring hotlaps
driven with completely stock production cars.

Rules are simple:

-You can drive any PRODUCTION car, 100% unmodified (not even oil change unless it's a used car, so car performance is always consistent)
-You must use N2 tires for real-word performance
-Drive in GT mode/Circuit practice

This should make for a very challenging hotlap competition, and a very interesting one in real-world terms.

*If you post a fast time, I and all other volunteers will then try to beat that time with the same car!*

Good! Thanks for contributing!
I'm actually driving the WRX Spec C myself right now, so you'll get a competitor very soon :) I'll try the other two later.

the handling on the spec c with N2 tyres isn't that bad. watch out for the zonda though. i know for a fact that it doesn't really like N2 tyres. accelaration is good, when you put your foot down, you get a big boost of accelaration, but then you have to slow down for the next corner.

i think i'll try the Evo VIII MR, Ford Mustang GT, Ford GT, Saleen S7 and Honda NSX-R next.

TurboJ - Are you keeping a leaderboard, or are you just going to leave everyone's times hidden in their posts?

N2 = real world performance...

Driving 3 feet from the edge of performance = real world performance ;)

Good luck in the racing.
Great laps posted so far. 👍

TurboJ - Are you keeping a leaderboard, or are you just going to leave everyone's times hidden in their posts?

I will make this into a leaderboard listing as soon as there are enough times posted here, so keep posting people! 👍

So I have one competitor here? Come on people, start posting! :)

Driving showroom-spec cars with N2 tires is one of the best ways of comparing pure driving skill - this way it makes do difference if you happen to have a good setup for car X, you have to drive it with stock suspension, so the only thing that's going to affect your laptime is you!

Hey there TurboJ, nice username ! I will be posting here shortly! ( but not at all on par with your guys lap times so far )

just thought i'd mention that i did a 5-lap "GT" race on the 'Ring with the Nissan GT-R Concept Race Car earlier this evening. Did it on R5s and my fastest lap was 6'09.xxx. :D

You have a nice username too

Cool, I'm looking forward to new entries! BTW, don't worry if your times aren't the fastest - for example, I dropped 20 seconds from the Skyline's time after 10 laps of practice.

Where do I get that car?

I thought I 'd be the first to post with the Ruf CTR Yellow Bird, but it's not the best time ever, I know there are some very deft drivers out there who will knock a heap out of that. However it proved excellent preparation for driving the BMW M5, and I surprised myself by beating the posted time!

RUF CTR Yellow Bird: 8'25.248"
BMW M5: 8'01.837"

Edit: Just did a couple of laps in a second hand M Coupe, and found that I could go at least 5 secs faster after the chassis refresh. It was noticeably better on the downhill section after Kallenhard, and the flat out bit after Pflantzgarten. There's a good bit to come off that time, but I don't seem to be on the pace this morning.

BMW M Coupe: 8'39.736

Incidentally, I reckon oil changes should be allowed as a) it's a simple mod that puts people on a more even footing, especially if a car has only 1000 or so miles on it, b) that little red light is REALLY annoying, c) I want to be able to use the cars in my garage, which MAY have had an oil change, and d) I've got a puke green 6.2 mile M coupe in the garage anyway which would probably beat it (see a) above). But an excellent thread, nonetheless. Thanks.

I will update the leaderboard on this monday.

About oil changes - on used cars you can of course do oil changes, but not on 10 km used cars. The point here is that your car's performance should always be stock, so oil changes are only allowed when original stock power output gets lower (as in used cars).

People, have fun here and we could still need more challengers to post their times!

Please read my new info about oil changes - I will add your time with the M Coupe if you like, but I would suggest you try it again with the oil change done. Thanks for your input!

Excellent, thanks Turbo J!

Hot dang! I couldn't get near your M3 time. Had to cheat and use the CSL. Do you think anyone will notice? :D

Can't say I agree with that. :(

N2 tires just don't give everyone the chance to show their true potential.
Not in my opinion atleast.

For example, I'm hindered by N tires and when I compete on them I do far more poorly than I do with S tires or R tires.

So, on that note, I will show how I do on N tires. :P

7'53.047 Kent Corvette Z06 (C5) '00

That's my official submission. :D

(edited to show new and improved lap time) (still clean of course)

Man, I just got to get quicker! Those are some hot times, Wakeem! I'm so rubbish in these low grip scenarios, my best times with the R34 Nurb and the M3 were a good 10 secs down on yours! Do you use a steering wheel? (I'm not fishing for excuses, I promise! :P )

Eh... I'm just not doing good with these N2 tires... I tried a 98 lotus esprit but I was still over 8 minutes. :(

Very good run.
(points to "a list of clean racers" link in sig). :sly:

I might get back to this sort of racing but I haven't found a car to run (or the time to run it).
Anything stronger than the Vette is not good on N2s in my hands.
Maybe an M3 or something?

I'm very honoured by your invitation

I don't have the facility to provide legitimate proof however. :embarrassed:
(They could've easily provided all the vehicle information in the Replay Theater screen, where you select which replay to play. :indiff: )

So you don't have any real reason to believe anything I say. I guess all should just take it for what its worth for now. Know that it'd be pathetic if I spend my time on these forums and buy the game just to play the charlatan.

But I bet competant players will have the imagination to see the improvments in their lap add up to atleast the time i have provided.

Now before I say too much, I humbly wait until someone smashes my times.

The M3 is good, though you might prefer the rigitity of the Skyline. The M3 is really squishy. The Corvette is in between them. The Saleen seemed daunting at first, its very deceptive. You have to brake alot earlier than expected, but eventually the car will persuade you.

I tried to defeat your Motegi record in the other challenge. I cannot for the life of me get within more than one second of your time...so I decided to smash your C5 record. :)
