Many racers didn't take part in the NOS race, so I thought I should post week 37 a few hours in advance. Don't want to let you with nothing to race too long :D
As a result of the poll, our Christmas race this week take places at El Capitan, except that with 660 hp on sports tyres you might need to keep staring at the road instead of enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Yosemite Park. :sly:

nice, i was expecting a saleen race sometime...

the car is already a living legend

i wonder how much wheelspin we will get on that downhill right hander after T1...

and, when you say any tires, you mean any sports tires?
(because i can´t remember if we can put Racing tires on normal cars in arcade mode, my brain just blanketed for a moment...)

You can't put racing tyres on road cars in arcade mode, and you can't put road tyres on race cars. Always seemed kind of stupid to me.

So S3's are going to be the way 👍

GTrackd02
OH my!.......
I still really have not tamed the S-7 in sim mode..... this should be fun :)
That's why I chose Arcade Mode this week.

Both cars have an identical weight (1,250 kg) and a similar power (556 / 558 hp), so the +20% -10% rule in Arcade Mode leaves it unchanged : they're still equivalent.
When fully modded in Sim Mode however, they are not equivalent anymore : 1,212 kg and 1,033 hp for the Zonda ; 1,062 kg and 895 hp for the Saleen. Power ratios are close (1.17 and 1.19) but the 140 extra hp give the Zonda an unfair advantage.

As Casio said, we can't use racing tyres on a road car in Arcade Mode. And the right-hander after T1 is... hum.... interesting :D

Nice, suits you sir!

Will be running the Zonda first! :)

Neil

bring that on... i am definitely keener for this WRS than last weeks...

EDIT: staggering amounts of wheelspin... first WRS i have seriously considered using the TCS... just monstrous amount of it, without TCS on i had to feather the throttle huge amounts or short shift and that was just in a quick 10 lap session i just had...

T1: 29.714 (28.xxx)
T2: 1'06.181 (1'05.xxx)

hoping for another 2-3 seconds off, will give it more time over the weekend... only using the Zonda, getting massive drifts through the huge left hand sweeper after T1... losing big time in between T1 and T2 at the moment... will have to try the S7 another time...

Yup!

Wheelspin city from both cars!

TCS definately the order of the day, at least at first. I don't like it, but, they have it in R/L.

The Hamster nearly span the Zonda he was driving on the twisties two/three weeks ago with the traction control on! So they really must be a handfull! :scared:

Having some tentative runs now, but they really are tentative. :nervous:
EDIT

I never thought that I would have to say this, but, an American car drives better than an Italian? Go figure!
The Saleen is great, but i don't find the gearbox suites the track (at least with me driving it anyway).
The Zonda understeers SO badly, especially on the brakes, it's ridiculous! but the gearbox is longer and suites the track better. Also the Zonda is so skitty over the bumps (must be the lumps of granite they use for shock-absorbers) that i can't go as fast in the T1-T2 sector (through the tunnel and over the hilltop)

Think the Saleen will be the car of choice this week! :(

Neil

I did a few laps in both and my first impressions are that the S7 is the easier drive. Whether it has the potential to be the fastest remains to be seen though. I sense a frustrating week ahead :indiff:

I'd agree about the saleens gearbox; 2nd gear is ridiculously short! I was also a bit disappointed to find it's not available in '50 Cent candy shop red.'

*Edit* Actually, having ASM on with the Zonda really helps things and i think i now prefer it to the Saleen. It's brakes are still rubbish, but it understeers less and isn't as twitchy over the hill after T1.

*Electric says:"I hate this.*

*But Flat-out responds with:"You said what?"*
(private joke between me and Flat-out)

(and no that's not me on the upper pic)

This week I'll definitively have to use traction control........grrrrrrrr.........

ARCADE MODE!!!! YESSS!!!!!! Although it is almost christmas, I need to race this one that is for sure.

TCS and ASM on the Zonda works, but feels like cheating! :yuck:

Yes it is slightly (EDIT) LOTS (EDIT) faster(with aids on), but is still very twitchy.

Not got any solid splits yet, but improving. :)

Neil

Posted early eh? Sweetness. The cars... Yikes. We shall see what I can manage... 👍

Faster WITH ais on, eh....hhmm....gonna have to look into that one. I'm hoping the Saleen is a better match for my driving style mainly because I like how it looks more than the Zonda. Not that I dislike the Zonda is pretty unique, the Saleen is sleeker IMO

Guess I'll see what I can do with my old Formula Force wheel hooked up... But I'm still a ds2 person for now. Hopefully there is better throttle control thanks to the increased precision of the gas pedal.

I take back my previous decision about which car to use.......

The Zonda is faster, more fun, and turns better on the power. It's still a pig as far as the brakes go, and understeering with brakes. But i like it better. :)

Taken over 4 seconds off my lap with the ASM on, but not gonna be using them for long as it still feels like cheating. Traction control will stay on for a while tho'.

Splits

30.120 :indiff:
1'07.324 :indiff:

Craptastic, but starting to get there!
Neil

I put in some decent laps earlier and came up with these splits:

0'29.100
1'05.769

Done with the Zonda, DS2, Auto, TCS & ASM both on.

Leaderboard Started Y'All! Let's Get It On!

jump_ace

Gave it a try again too :dopey:

29.220 / 1'05.352

Zonda, DFP, Manual, no driving aids

Driving Aids...Pack of Women...Fangio would be turning in his grave.

First 10 laps. No Driving Aids. DS2 with all of 2mm of pedal travel.

T1 - 29.644 (Not half bad)
T2 - 1'07.919 (I forgot to brake down the hill, why does a supercar have the stopping power of the QE2?!)

Driving Aids...Pack of Women...Fangio would be turning in his grave.

T1 - 20.644 (Not half bad)
T2 - 1'07.919 (I forgot to brake down the hill, why does a supercar have the stopping power of the QE2?!)

We mite be a 'pack of women' mate, but I think that 20's too manly an exaggeration! :)

Neil

After about an hour and a half in the Zonda, tried the Saleen for about start -> T1....hahahaha!!! I got a BARELY DIRTY, NO Aids:
T1 - :20.499 (about .2 behind where I want to be
T2 - 1:05.747 (shooting for 1:05.0xx, maybe....)
I won't post these splits as they are DIRTY, just an fyi for ya I guess, but I'm done for today and will be back tomorrow to get some clean splits.

That mountain after T1 will be the death of me (literally if I were actually driving this combo):

Zonda Splits
T1: 0'29.401
T2: 1'06.033
Finish: 1'xx.xx1

Very addictive combo this week

GOD I'm such an idiot!! Just ran for an hour struggling to break 1'13 at T2. Had no idea how you guys were in the 1'05's.
I see now, that we are allowed to use S3 tires...........:dunce:

Take it from me, neither of these cars is a picnic with ROAD tires.

Had a real punt at this.

I brought that S7, in my opinion, it is far worse then the Zonda. Way, way, way to much understeer (At least without ASM), and you can't get any rear end sliding under brakes, although, it does come in different colours, which is a positive 👍. This is a killer combo, road cars in arcade mode is by far my favorite type of race, so hopefully I can bounce back from the past two weeks.

Also, I tried with TCS for a few laps and could only get within 1 second of my non-TCS time, however, I didn't run too many laps with it on, but from what I've seen now and the past no TCS is the way to go.

T1 - 29.312 (Sub 29 is very much possible I think, that first kink is a killer, I've taken it at 150mph with two wheels on the grass, it's so hard to judge when to turn in, I put it in the wall half the time)
T2 - 1'05.470 (We'll see some 1'04s pretty soon I think, I probably lost .2 on the left hander after the hill before you go down the steep hill, if that makes sense...)

I drove the Zonda a good 45 minutes and here's the best I can come up with so far :

T1 : 29.865
T2 : 1'07.220

That was a very clean lap, among lots of dirty ones... :ouch: Sports tires just don't work for supercars... I like the challenge though, very hard to get a clean, fast lap. I jumped in the Saleen after the Zonda for 15 minutes, and noticed the huge amount of undertseer, but also the stronger braking power ! I felt that I could stop the Saleen faster the the Zonda, and had slighty slower T-times in the S7, but room for improvement.
I was gonna submit my times, but after looking at your guy's T2 : 1'05's I decided to keep trying, and trying, and trying......my DFP is gonna hate me :nervous:

Great cars, great choice, looks we're gonna have a great race !

Missed a tiny detail on the leaderboard, forgot to add the car tag in the html, but it seems (for me at least) Luxy's site is down. So when that is up and running I'll add more times up there 👍 I have family coming over I just learned...UGH! I mean its great and all, but I really wanted to spend some time on this weeks race...ggrr....o well 'tis the season for family right?

EDIT: I voted for the Fuji track, that would have been great too, I chose the Fuji because I didn't get to do it way earlier in the wrs and we've done El Capitan sooner than Fuji, o well still a kick in the pants, nice combo Cyril!
