This week we will eventually run the race that I had to postpone 3 times already.
It was initially planned for week 31 as a race with a possible choice between the Motorsport Elise and the Tommy kaira ZZ-S. The problem was that the ZZ-S simply couldn't match the Elise despite similar power and weight. So I postponed it to week 34 in order to have some more time to find a better balanced combo.
Then due to Richard Burns' death, I changed my plans at the last minute and posted a tribute arcade race. This resulted in too many GT mode races (weeks 35, 36, 39) and there was no room for Autumn Ring Mini anymore, so I posted it as an arcade race on another board. It was pretty successful and enjoyable, so I decided to use it for the WRS too and planned it for week 47.
Until the poll that showed last week that a majority of racers wish there were more Arcade races. I decided to stop with the 50/50 arcade/GT ratio to post an arcade tarmac rally combo (which are usually successful) and postponed a third time the GT Mode race at Autumn Ring Mini.

So here is eventually the final version of this combo. The track is really short (about 40 secs a lap) and it would have become boring pretty early IMO. The winding layout makes it difficult to overtake cleanly, so a multi-lapper was not really the solution. In the end, I decided to run 2 races instead of only one.

You have 2 cars (Elise and Silvia), 2 tracks (forward and reverse) and each of you will have to choose which car he/she will use on which track. You can practice all 4 combinations (Elise/forward ; Elise/reverse ; Silvia/forward ; Silvia/reverse), but you will have to make a choice before submitting : you must submit 2 laptimes only, so you'll have to submit Elise/forward + Silvia/reverse or Silvia/forward + Elise/reverse.
Hope it makes sense :D

Flat-O, you've managed to create the most confusing WRS in history!

Looks kinda interesting though...

First post....

...okay maybe not...damn it :sly:

Cool idea Cyril, don't envy the job of the Leaderboard updater....oh wait...that's me?!?

i dont know how we wi do it this week...

I know! we can have 1 called 48 and one 48b? hmm.

This week looks fun none the less 👍

Autumn Ring Mini has 2 T-times.
As for calling the races A and B, since the cars are different it'll be pretty difficult to define which is A and which is B.

The forward race will give T-times around 13 and 30 sec, and the reverse around 10 and 27 (roughly). So there's no way we can get confused by the times that are posted.

I'll try to summarize things before everybody starts to wonder and ask questions :

1. make sure you cars use the correct parts and that each car matches the required power/weight.
  • Elise 111R '04: 219hp / 782kg
  • Silvia Spec S Aero '99 : 304hp / 1,091kg

2. here are all 4 possible combos you can practise :
  1. Elise @ forward
  2. Elise @ reverse
  3. Silvia @ forward
  4. Silvia @ reverse

3. here are the only 2 possible ways of submitting your times :
  • Elise @ forward + Silvia @ reverse
    or
  • Silvia @ forward + Elise @ reverse

cool idea
sounds a litle bit fun in my opinion. will give it some time later on in the week. cheers

this is very cool... i like the new concept... plus its almost autumn ring, so i should like this...

don´t know how the sports tires are going to hold up in a tight track like this, but i´ll find that later tonight...

shall definitely give this a crack, ran the 111R on Autumn Ring a while back and had a lot of fun with it...

EDIT: had a run in the silvia, not a nice car, bugger all torque, fair bit of understeer, means braking early to maintain momentum, a LOT of wheelspin out of the first corner... shall be very satisfying when i eventually hook it up just right

A.M.R. Forward - Nissan Silvia

T1: 13.5 (13.3)
T2: 30.1 (29.7)

the trick this week is finding which way to take the tracks to be as quick as possible...

Sounds like fun :D I love the Silvia... and the Elise should be pretty nimble in this small, technical course. I like how you're forced to use both, rather than pick just one car :D

:D sounds great this week :)

As usual on all gt combos; i shall be checking back regularly to see what additional parts i should be buying...and what settings to use...also...increased rigidity? never know whether to use it or not...?

This sounds like fun 👍
It'll be interesting to see how this works out, tuning two cars
See if I learned anything in the few GT races I've run :scared: LOL
Haven't driven either of the cars yet :) ... did the track in the short lived Mini-Cooper series.

Great concept, but, uh, and this is going to sound weird coming from me, but this would have been a much better Arcade race. I love GT mode, but two different cars on FAIAP two tracks, it's going to be a bit frantic doing racing and setups...

I know, I know...

So Cyril, are you going to "count" this as two GT races so you can now do Arcade races for a month straight!? <DUC>

I just bought a brand new 111R and bought the oil change and sports exhaust but this only achieves 206hp which is 13hp short of what you say it should be. What should i do?

*Edit* Also the used Silvia i had when given the oil change, chip and race exhaust only makes 285hp which is 19hp short of what you say it should be! Correct me if i'm wrong but the only Silvia's available are used ones?

I am very confused now. Can you please advise Cyril. Thanks

I forgot to mention the port polish and the engine balancing.
Since they can't be removed once they've been installed I always allow these parts.
I updated post #1.

Oh right. That makes sense. Cheers.

Interesting idea. 👍

A first for the WRS as well.
Nicely thoughtout and hopefully the end result will be as interesting as it is enticing.

Hope to come back later in the week with some times but time is one thing I've been short on lately so we will just have to wait and see how that goes. :D

Until next time,
-

Just did a few laps forward in the Elise, got in the ballpark #'s that Cyril was talking about. Here's a quick and dirty set up I've begun to tweak.

By the way, with the oil change, I'm getting 1 hp over the limit :grumpy:

Elise Forward

5.5/6.3
105/105
2/2
2/2
2.0/1.0
0/0
3/3
Final - Auto 1 top at 4.532

Still not sure if I'm going to leave it a six speed, thinking about taller gears

Tried this set-up in reverse - needs some tweaking

By the way Cyril, love the different aspects of this race 👍 👍
Even if I finish dead last, this is   didn't really notice the undulations as much going forward 👍

Time to jump in the Silva

From my test sessions, I noticed that :
  • being an MR, the Elise is naturally well balanced and doesn't require much tuning ;
  • while the Silvia needs to be adjusted to swing properly through the winding sections ;
  • the forward track is about 1 or 2 seconds faster than the reverse one (or I know it better) ;
  • knowing the track and being able to go straight through some turns really matters.
I'll check the parts and powers again tonight.

Tried both cars in both directions and for me there's only one way to do this; the 111R on normal and the S15 on reverse. Not messed with gearing, suspension or LSD's yet so plenty of scope for improving on these.

111R Normal - Auto - DFP - Div2
T1 - 13.618
T2 - 30.442

S15 Reverse - Auto - DFP - "
T1 - 10.149
T2 - 27.233

So, seeing as how there are two possible submissions:

a: Elise (forward) and Silvia (reverse)
b: Elise (reverse) and Silvia (forward)

are there going to be two parallel competitions run? One for submission a and one for submission b?

I'm just a bit confused as to how closely we can compare the two attempts.

Anyway, I'll run my laps and submit the times. We'll see how they stack up at the end of the round. :nervous:

Nice combo

unfortunately I will be busy most of today, so I won't have times in until at least tomorrow

I think I already know which car I will be runnning for forward and which for reverse:
Silvia-forward: I drift silvias a lot, and I drift in the normal direction the most, so kinda obvious
Elise-reverse: look at the reason for the silvia

Board Initiated.

Not sure if the method I've tried is correct but it should work?!? You can alter it if you want guys, but I'm outta here...

I'm gonna be away for a couple of days (Year 11 excursion) so I'll see ya'll around...don't get too fast while I'm gone :sly:

Looks like the week will be as interesting as I expected. :D

elise forward - only dirty times so far and some pretty messed up settings :P would love some settings posted for both cars posted here, hint hint, <cough> holl01 </cough>. Ive seen 12.9 and 29.0 times so far.

15 laps in the Elise (forward) :
13.267
29.351

Same in the Silvia :
13.260
30.510
and the lap is 1.5 slower :(

Next session I'll run the reverse track.

Well, some of you will call me crazy, but I like the Elise better than the Sylvia. So I'm going to race the Elise both forwards and reverse for about 30 to 60 laps apiece, and see which direction I like better in that car. Then the Sylvia gets the opposite direction...

This is going to be a VERY fun week, I think. I like Autumn Ring (both large and small) and I absolutely LOVE the Elise... The Sylvia is a good car, too, but not my favorite. And GT Mode is the BEST! I can customize the car for MY driving style, and get better times than I could in arcade mode (in theory, at least...)

Well, some of you will call me crazy, but I like the Elise better than the Sylvia.

I don't think you're crazy. The Elise is 50 times better then the Silvia.

I've run the Elise for about 10/15 laps in both directions. The reverse track is 500 times better the the forward version. The forward has no flow to it at all. I think I'll go against convention this week and run the Elise on the reverse section.

My times with the Elise
Forward
T1 - 13.126
T2 - 29.487

Reverse
T1 - 9.638
T2 - 25.670

Difference between final times: 0.3 to forward
I havn't done any tuning to the car at all. Now I'm off to run the Silvia
