In a lot of posts references are made to classes of cars, like 'group C', LMP and something like JGTWC or something (i can't find it anymore...).
Which common classes are there and what cars are in these classes?

All improvements are welcome. :)

The JGTC could probably be split into 300 and 500. But nonetheless, that list is awfully handy!

Edit: I don't see any of the PD LM cars on the list, so they could use a category.

Both done, the "fantasy LMs" were originally on the list but I deleted them :guilty: because I thought that iLex was looking for real life classes.

Chaparral 2J and Toyota 7 added.

3-Wheel Drive, you're absolutely right in saying that Can-Am was missing (not anymore) but the 2D is a FIA racer and thus belongs to the LM category.

- R -

Oh, and here I always thought it was Can-Am. GT5 should have some more Can-Am racers, like the Shadow Mk II, and some of the other Chaparrals, like the 2C.

3-Wheel Drive
No, the 2J should be under a Can-Am category, along with 2D and the Toyota 7.

The 2D is a Nurburgring endurance racer, like the Falken Skyline.:)

Oh and the S.S. Trueno should go under the Tuner category.

Don't forget that while fantasy, many of the PD cars were based on real life cars. Just thought I'd point that out.

LM and rally cars separated. I couldn't find the classes for some LM cars so they are in the "others" section. For most of the rally cars I know the classes but it would be quite pointless to have the Stratos alone in Group 4 and so on, so they are all together now.

- R -

^ Yea, the LM can be a little confusing considering they keep changing the class names. Oh, umm, shouldn't the Focus WRC be in Rally WRC, and the Escort be in Group A?

Yes, the Focus was missing for some reason, it has been added. The Escort was really a WRC car, one of the weakest but still.

+REP for Greycap.... terrific list, and all the added input from others.

This would be an excellent addition to the FAQs links!

One suggestion: It might be a good idea to change the thread topic from Car Classification to Race Car Classification.

The (Aust) Ford Falcon AU V8 Supercar isnt there. As its the only V8 Supercar(TM) in the game maybe it should be with touring cars. Hopefully GT5 will have the BA Falcon and the VZ Commodore supercars.

im sure this has been said but im hoping in gt5 these classes actually have thier own races, cuz ya know races with group c cars and a couple LM fantasy cars are really realistic.

It's there, but it's in the "misc" section. I'll move it into the touring section, it suits better there.
GT4_Rule
What's with the name "Fantasy" though? Aren't those cars real?
No, they're cars created by PD - some of them are based on real cars, most aren't. None of them are fully realistic so they have their own section.

GT4_Rule
So you're telling me the RX-8 LM, S2000LM, NSX LM are all fantasy in a way?

I'm shocked.
Actually I'm telling you that those exact versions of them never existed. If we had "real" versions of them they would certainly go to correct classes but we don't, so they are where they are now.

I know that there was an NSX with that paint scheme, but it was a different model, so this one is a fantasy car, a new model painted like the old one.

- R -

The LMGT group should be called LMGTP, and the only car in that group is the Bentley. Possibly the Toyota GT-one too, as it raced in the GTP class in its second Le Mans attempt. The others should be GT1, and there goes the C5R, the Oreca Viper, the Lister Storm, the McLaren, BMW M3 GTR and the Vertigo. They are all GT1 cars, but from different ACO rule-eras.
And a couple of the "fantasy cars" are actually real. The Zonda LM exists under the name Zonda GR, and raced Le Mans last year IIRC, and is a GT1 class car. Also the XJ220 LM racecar has existed, but not as new as PD´s version. The XJ220 raced Le Mans several times in the early 90´s.

Wait didn't Mazda have an RX-8 racer with the 787B LeMans coloring? It never raced (I think), since it was more of an advertising thing.
