Couldn't find a dedicated thread, so here we go...

When I have more time I'll fill this post out with the usual game info as seen in some of the other "official game threads".

For now I just wanted to say that the demo is going to be coming out in just two days. 👍

Also, there are a bunch of new trailers and video demos of the game in action on the PS Stores and on sites like GameTrailers.

I though it looked decent from earlier footage, but after seeing some of the latest footage and the behind the scenes videos, this may end up being a must buy for me.

I can't wait to download the demo this Thursday off the PSN. I've been following this game for quite some time and it keeps getting better and better.

this will be a must rent, probably buy for me as well, The PS3 needs a game less focused on shooting (still has plenty) and with some puzzle/exploration elements in it

game didn´t start on my PS3! Anyone the same problem?
relio

The Uncharted demo unfortunately doesn't work with PAL tv sets. For once, i'm glad to be an American. :P

The demo is supposedly region locked... which is odd, not only because it's just a demo, but that no previous demo or full game has been region locked that I'm aware of at least. I wonder if it was done accidentally.

Yeah, it doesn't work here either. The odd thing is, it comes up with the message "Please insert the game disc". :odd:

Its pretty much what I expected. The gun play is nice but the enemies take too many shots imo as they do not get injured or wounded they just side step.

Just played the demo. It blew me away. The biggest issue is the controls. But even that isn't a very big issue. The controls aren't flawless, but they definitely get the job done.

Graphically, Uncharted is just amazing. The attention to detail is just insane. Walking through water gets Nathan's clothes wet and they dry off as time goes on. It's just a huge feast for the eyes.

But of course, pretty visuals isn't everything Uncharted has to offer. The demo is quite an enjoyable 15-minute romp through the jungle, and the sound design is superb. The voice acting is some of the most convincing I've ever heard in a videogame, and the music is as addictive as crack.

Anyway, this game is a must-buy. Hopefully it won't be long before the UK gets a demo. Simply stunning, i'm willing to bet it'll be the best PS3 game of 2007.

I thought that the enemies were reasonably defeatable. I don't know what difficulty you were playing, but on easy it took about 2-3 rounds per enemy, or 1 round if you get a headshot.

Ooh, which reminds me! When I was playing, there was this awesome moment where this guy was getting ready to lob a grenade at me. I shot him in the arm, he dropped the grenade and the grenade finished him off.

Alot of shooting. Alot of running and jumping. Beautiful graphics and animations and atmosphere. The gameplay is a bit standard, probably just this bit of the game, hiding behind ruins and shooting enemies.

Ugh, I want to keep playing! The demo is very short. Once you get the hang of it, it's over. I think the voice acting in the intro was lame, but when a grenade comes close to you, Drake says: "uh-oh" or "oh-boy...". That's a nice touch.

I agree, the enemy take way to many shots. If I shoot you in your neck, you're supposed to die. It needs Warhawk's aiming system.

The animation is superb, I never saw the same animation twice, even taking cover behind a wall. The graphics are amazing, so green and lush, something you won't see on any other console. Smooth as baby ass, no frame drops, no tearing.

It's an awesome game. The controls are a bit sluggish compared to other Naughty Dog games, but with everything looking so realistic, it feels more natural. The take cover and shoot parts never get tedious either, you can always do a melee attack to make things more interesting. You could also shoot while running too.

You guys seem to have the gameplay impressions pretty well covered, but I will add this one thing (for those of you that have full 5.1 digital sound systems): go into the options menu, select audio and then set the center speaker to large. Since there's a fair bit of the sound effects come through the center speaker this will help fill out the sound stage.

Also for those with DTS capable receivers you should notice that your receiver displays a DTS audio input confirmation. If not, you can go into the same audio options area and select DTS as the output preference.

Personally after playing the demo I am much more interested in this game than I was from only watching the trailers and gameplay videos.

Sounds good.
Unfortunately my download would'nt play. I just got a blank screen:grumpy:. Quitting the game reset my PS3 too. I assume there was a problem with the download (I did it whilst I was at work). So I'm doing it again now. I hope it isn't because I have a UK PS3. I've never had this problem with all my other dozen or so demo downloads...

EDIT It would seem there's a bug in the demo that makes it unplayable on PAL PS3's. This is a major kick in the gooleys. I was really looking forward to this demo. And it had better be a bug than region locked.

Here is the official response from Sony & Naughty Dog

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Demo Update
Posted on Nov 8, 2007 by Sam Thompson // Line Producer, SCEA
Hi, since I’m new to the blog I wanted to first introduce myself. I am the line producer on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and I work with Naughty Dog on a day-to-day basis and have been working with the team since Crash Team Racing.

We are pleased to see that there is so much interest out there in the Uncharted demo, and wanted to provide a quick update.

As many of you in Europe and Japan may have already learned, today’s demo is currently only available on the North American PlayStation Store, and will only work on PS3 units in that territory. As you may already know, North America is the first region to launch Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (Monday, November 19th), and we wanted to be sure that we gave our North American PS3 players the opportunity to try out the demo prior to launch. Other territories are currently putting the finishing touches on the localization aspects of the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demo, and will release it in their respective PlayStation Stores in due course.

Unfortunately when attempting to download the demo, our friends in PAL regions or Japan may have encountered a bug in which you are asked to insert a disc. Please ignore this prompt and accept our apologies.

Thanks again for your interest in the game, we hope that those of you who do get a chance to play it get a taste for what we hope will become an action-adventure classic on the PS3.

As far as the demo is concerned, while I'm not blown away by the voice acting... although certainly better than most games, the atmosphere and interaction with the environment is amazing.

I especially liked how even the current at the top of the waterfall combined with the slipper rocks in the creek caused me to slip and fall off the edge. The character then quickly grabbed the ledge, leaving just my head barely showing through the waterfall. Then I shimmied across to get out from under the waterfall, and could then climb back up. Very cleverly thought out and developed. 👍

As yaywalter mentioned, your clothes and hair get wet according to how much contact they have with water, and you can watch them dry off over time... love that kind of detail.

Also, the dead bad guys don't just disappear, or act as "ghost" objects, like many games. They have real rag doll physics, where you can push their dead bodies over the edge.

The aiming takes some getting used to, but I must say I am really impressed by what I've seen and played so far, especially for a demo.

👍👍

What I would like to see with the aiming is some sort of small crosshair that remains on the screen whenever you have your weapon drawn so you can predict where the crosshair will be when you go into aiming mode instead of having to move the crosshair while being constantly hit...

overall an excellent demo and a great example of how they should be done, also a great demo to show off to your friends 👍

However you can pretty easily mimick that feature by taking cover, generally lining up with the camera stick where you guess the crosshairs will aim, quickly peak out with L1 and then make minor adjustments with the camera stick accordingly. I know it is a little more cumbersome to do it this way compared to your suggestion, but it is equally effective.

Also I've found that if you select "invert" for vertical aiming it helps greatly to select invert for vertical camera control. That way pushing forward with the right stick (camera control) will adjust your aim towards the ground just like it would with the left stick (aim control).

What is with the spooky objects in the trees you find sometimes? Found something that looked like a skull on a hanging cross thing, and a hoop on a stick with sails hanging on it.

I didn't come across that second one, but I suspect, due to the L2 icon alert that pops up when you are near them, that they are part of the "puzzle" solving aspect of the full game version.

I understand the popularity of shooter & fighting games, but I'm hoping Uncharted has a lot of puzzle solving aspects to the game. Granted, puzzles don't have much replay value, as once you solve them, every time you play, that element is no longer really relevant or exciting.

However, I still like having them in games, as I like games that make you think, and not just reward people with quick button pressing reflex times, or worse yet, allow you to progress in a game by just randomly pushing buttons in a fight, as so many fighting style games do. :)

it looks like there will be a lot of emphasis on using cover and conserving ammo, the limited availability of ammo and only carrying 2 weapons are a good sign that this wont just be another adventure shooter.

I like a bit of puzzle elements in games too. It's almost like a more realistic Zelda game with guns.
