For now I'll wait. Project Cars on PS4 looks good, and GT7 on a console should still have livery editor, real word GPS track creation and better graphics.
I understand that computers are more advanced than consols but really the only true advantages of PC are graphics and frame rate.
For example NASCAR '08 on PS2 has 43 cars on track, realistic physics, livery editor, blown engines, tires etc, parts come off of damaged cars, fire, modeled interiors in every car and ability to tune and upgrade the vehicles. AC is either equal or behind that game in all those categories. The only thing improved a lot since then was graphics.
That's fine. I think it's worth waiting, if only to make sure you are getting involved with the largest community with the best game. I think you will be joining me one day regardless, but it is really early to be committing to anything right now. For example, I recently heard that the AC team may be converting over to C++ for mod support rather than Python. That's ok for me because I know both languages. But C++ is more professional and Python is more embraced by hobbyists, so that is going to hurt independent mod dev a little. But the plus side to it is the C++ is more stable, and easier to make better on resources, so people with lower power PCs will actually benefit from the switch. It is so good that you are likely using it now. Most things for PC are made of Visual Basic, C, or C++. (Objective-C for Apple people). So it's going to be a good switch IMO. Other people are not so happy about it.
In rebuttal to your NASCAR '08, however consider the complexity of the game. For that game, they had to write that code for 4 types of cars. The rest is lather, rinse, repeat. Now try doing that for 43 "different" cars, many with custom livery, tuning options, and accurately modeled interiors? On a track with as many pit stalls that requires you to pit accurately. The only think controlled is pit road speed. Either 40 or 50 mph depending on the track. But everything else, including slowing down and pulling in as done by you.
Our tracks are modeled by laser and most custom tracks are ports or hand built by people that are familiar with them. AC's modded Trial Mountain is way better than GT's from any version. What is coolest is that all of this is just getting started. By the time these games are 15 years old, I don't think it will matter much to some that we will have self driving cars. You can even adjust your seat position in AC, although I still tend to drive by bumper cam. When I just want to enjoy a leisurely drive around Road America, I take the dashboard view.
But my recommendation comes from me being one of those people who likes being in on the ground floor. It's a chance for me to participate in the development and get my opinions counted. And in this case, a chance for me to learn how to do these things myself. By the time you guys decide to come on board, I will have already amassed a large library of cars and tracks, some built my others, and some I've built or modified and upgraded myself. So all you will have to do is get the setup and jump in. If people are charging for DLCs, no worries. I have all you want for free! If people want to have club only or charge for servers, no worries. Mine will have been running for years already. Bring yourself and your friends. That's why I'm jumping in. You guys are coming. You just don't know it yet. One drive in my Sarenti Camaro GT3 and you will never be the same. Someone must have recorded that thing from inside the car on a track or race day. That's all I can say about that. Let me go upload some shots on my thread. Check it out in about a half-hour. (I'm supposed to be working on a website!)
