If PD wanted a bigger and more comprehensive offline experience in a standalone offering, then surely it would make more sense to release a moderately priced spin-off (or DLC) where there would at least be ROI.
Priced = not free, and bigger = more troublesome to download, install, and update.

It's intended as a hassle-free, feature-shorn, pick-up-and-play title for the outer edges (and beyond) of the age spectrum.

As the goal is to get people (mainly kids) interested in cars, or to get people already interested in cars into GT, the price and size works.

Adding content very occasionally (I got the impression he means no more often than quarterly, if even that, and nowhere near a GT7 cadence) makes sense too. For example, MFGT has no EVs right now, and EVs are now 20% of the new car parc and rising. If they want to keep relevance at the young end, they need the cars the kids experience, and you'd have to say the IONIQ 5N is a shoo-in for the first MFGT update.
 
Right. I'm not saying that MFGT has to cover the entire PP range present in GT7, from the Fiat 500 to the Tomahawks. I think just a small curation of specially set up cars—such as 18 already present in MFGT—can be divided into three broad groups based on performance and balanced against each other within their respective groups by the developers who tuned the cars.
I thought you wished that GT7 had a car class given to all its cars, and yeah, other games seem to provide car classes for its performance measuring stat, of which GT hasn't for PP except for racecars, and that I refer to GT7 about car classes (accompanying PP) can be too wide to do so.
I would like to see an Arcade Mode in MFGT where these classes are made obvious, put on the forefront when selecting the cars (like in the PS1 GT games) instead of being relegated to a small box in the car select screen that looks decorative at best. It's much easier to understand why someone driving a "Class C (City Car)" would lose to someone driving a "Class A (Sports Car)" than it is to understand whatever the heck Gr.3 or N200 means. In the video I embedded above, I winced when the game lumped a base 4C and an Evo Gr.B together, and actually let those two cars race on a dirt track against each other.
Guess it won't hurt to add Class A, B, or C in addition to the car statistics, but yeah GT1 didn't have a car class menu unlike GT2 and GT3, just had a car class written in the left in addition to their statistics in the right - the cars are divided by their brands.

and the Alpine A220 gets walked by the likes of the F40 and Taycan when matching tyre compounds.
Though dunno what are the PP results in them using matching tyre compounds, isn't this one something accurate? As listed here, both F40 (has a big boost in PP compared to GT5/GT6 PP, it was on base C7 Corvette level, but now it's higher than LP640) and Taycan have higher PP (600+) than Alpine A220 (578).

I think with the ‘future updates’ they probably mean what GT7 (or GT8 in the future) content can they trickle down to MFGT to keep the demo game more relevant to the current main game…?

This is my take as well: updating the demo likely will only serve to represent whatever the full game looks like. In the future, the ending will present GT8, rather than 7.

I seriously doubt they're going to invest too much into MFGT.


As a random aside: his comments about the elderly and "presenting something for the men"; while this is a fair point for that particular demographic, I wonder if Kaz and Co understand that there are lady enthusiasts as well? I wouldn't expect Polyphony to go overboard in trying to appeal to women, but it does seem strange that there's almost no representation at all in 7 (e.g. your driver avatar only comes in a male body type). I feel like just a little inclusion would go a long way in attracting an even wider base of fans.
 
Yeah, trying to attract young Gen Z kids that don't give a **** about 90's cars... It'sssss mmmmm, how to put it kindly, not going to work. They're are completely out of touch with their community, what the community is clamoring and what they are trying to achieve. And I say trying because it's all half baked, all the time.

I don't see this happening unless they add an "S Class" of cars to the game. The current top class is the typical "~300hp sports coupe" set, not really a fit for a 641hp EV.

But hey, if they do as someone suggested and expand the race offerings so that each class can access each track, that's six new races. Which means potentially six new prize cars, the perfect size for an extra class.

Though that class would then get its own three races and three prize cars, and throw everything out of whack. I think things would be neater if they just added two more cars to each of the existing classes.

It could be used in a,icence test like the Genesis G70. Doesn’t have to be a gifted car.

I understand his sentiment and to a large extent agree, but all AAA titles now are massive in file size and attract younger (although they shouldn't but we were all young once) and older gamers.

I don't think cost or age is the limiting factor in that context.

Just broadly looking at the landscape Kaz is discussing the older generation have some of that nostalgia to pick up on and relate to (what we call defining cars, the cossies, 205's, MK1 golf GTi etc etc) the younger generation has very very little of these.

I'd say that this is more the manufacturers fault than anything. Just there isn't a lot of cars that are obtainable and aspirational enough these days to create the passion for cars that once existed. No magazines, the underground culture is painted in a very poor light these days, even the films are weak on highlighting some of the sleeper cars.

But to the point, if all games roughly cost the same, and all games are large outside of short indie titles and the contemporaries (NFS, ACC et al) are the same ball park of file size then it's fair to say that these 2 things are not the limiting factor.

I think they want to do a good thing, and I appreciate the PR aspect of his comments but it doesn't quite fit the reality and if you take the comments and apply it to the main game there are a lot of failings there in making cars fun, aspirational and gaming era defining that the previous games delivered.
