Practice Room is Closed..sorry I had to go so early, had to deal with some meeting to discuss future plans for league

@RacingOtaku86 will be hosting this Wednesday at Practice

Wait, whut? I guess this is why you asked me if I was coming to practice on Wednesday... No probs, you guys are in good hands of the great Sega-man! It will be...

...glorious.

thanks for the photos turnuptheheat!

I am an F1 fan... not a huge fan but I try to watch every race. I still believe older f1 cars bring out the best of a driver more than today's F1 cars with all the technology built in.
Wow! That is awesome heat!! Thanks for sharing the pictures

Cheers guys! Its nice to be able to share them. The prints had been tucked away in my folks house for years and I only dug them out fairly recently. I have some more, which will be of particular interest to you Canadian guys, from 1984 when I was on a vacation and went to Mosport Park (as it was called at the time) to see a round of the World Sportscar Championship. Jackie Ickyx, Derek Bell and Stefan Bellof in the Porsche 956 etc. I also have some more recent F1 pics from the 2001 Hungarian, 2002 Belgian and 2006 Italian GPs. I'll drip feed them into the thread.

I just don't believe that you can compare different eras, back in the 80's they had traction control whereas today there hasn't been any for years, for example. The technology is different today just like it was hugely different in the 80's compared to the 60's. I truly believe that Senna would do just as well today as Vettal would have done if he grew up in the 70's.
could be true because the skills of the drivers are all relative to the car that they drive. nowadays... passing are most likely being done in DRS zone.

Yeah Spliffy, I agree that you can't really compare different eras. Every successful driver of his time has/had skills that suited the cars of his time but I wouldn't necessarily agree that those same skills would always transfer sucessfully to another era.

Btw, traction control didn't come into F1 until the '90s.

killer photos! Andrea DeCRASHeris!!

Thanks, yeah that they called him from his early days in F1. On his day he was blindingly quick but his inconsistancy, or more accurately his crashing, earned him the nickname.

We Irish have a soft spot for him though because in 1991 he had a pretty good season driving for Jordan.

Who's got two thumbs, GT6, And wants to race the S2000's this Saturday?
:dopey:
👍 👍
This guy!

I couldn't figure out your name until I looked at it in the mirror! :)

Had a lot of fun practicing last night. Got to play with the brake balance a bit and was getting down to 1:41-42 range by the end of the night. Leo's 1:39, though... that was alien technology...

Now to just get some consistency... lest I catch a blade of grass.

Ohhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh wooooohoooo Florida State Baby!!!

What a game! My god that was insane. I thought Florida would win it with that kick return. Then Auburn scores the TD with that run and i thought, surely Florida can't score with a minute + change left. Boy was I wrong. Crazy finish. THe final 5 minutes was football at its best... until that interference call.

It was surely intense

Yeah, it was good fun alright. A great car/track combo but, as you say, touching the grass is a big danger. It's easier to get into trouble at this track than it was at Nurburgring.

I was wondering who did the 1:39. Nice alienish time Leo. Maybe you should change your name to LeoSpock!

Nothing alien about that, but 39 is hard to get, i could only reach it 2 times. I am more concerned with consistency :)

Enjoyed Practice immensely last night guys. Thanks goes out to everyone who stuck around late. After putting in what must have been 50 + laps at Brands Hatch, i think i am finally starting to learn the place.
(never got close to Leo's 1:39.7 though)

Be sure to practice at 19:00 track time guys, grip levels change quite a bit and you never know what the Ph1sh is going to throw at us!
And best not to use shadows as your braking markers, right Severn?

We also learned that the track time stops at 20:00 hours and does not get any darker :)

Oh, yeah... you can definitely notice the difference in the feel of the track when you get towards dusk... and using the shadow as a braking marker for turn 2 means... not braking for turn 2...

Although I was thinking about that today... I haven't tested it yet, but assuming that a Time Progression of 4 means that 1 minute RealTime = 4 minutes GameTime, the race time is at 11:00, and the race is 45 minutes... that only puts the end time around 14:00.

From doing the practice races it seems like every time the race starts, the time resets back to the time it is initially set to, but it's possible that during a real race the time keeps progressing during quals, race 1, break and race 2... in which case, yeah... definitely do some dusk practice laps because then we could be looking at the final race ending somewhere between 18:00 and 20:00 and you'll start to notice the track get slick... especially if you're still driving on the same set of tires for 26 laps.

i was able to do 1:44's in this tricky track... I don't know how I can be 4 seconds faster to get @LeoStrop 's time.

just a reminder to anyone that goes off track to check traffic before going back on. GT6's penalty is too light... i hope polyphony fixes it soon.

I didn't even notice he put the time on the Race INfo:

Race 5: Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit
Time / Time Progression: 11:00 / 4
Car: Honda S2000 '06
Tires: Sport Mediums
Laps: 26
Date: January 11, 2014

I swear he mentioned he wanted it to finish at dusk.

Well there's the question... in "Real Race" mode, does the time reset or does it keep ticking? If it keeps ticking then it would be dusk. 1 hour qual, 3 hour race, 1 hour break, 3 hour race would put it at 17:00... then add any delays.

I don't think it keeps ticking. I have never paid attention, but you have the time starting at the start of practice, and i know for sure once qualifying starts it resets. So i believe once the race gets underway, it starts back to the original time. I dont mind checking out the time at the end of the first race and using that as the starting time for the second race. Or just advance it by an hour or so to give it a feel that we had a break to 'adjust' the cars.

I went to check our race last night @johnsom , don't know if you saved it, but it's a good way to analyze other drivers styles. You have a good smooth line, all i can say is: do what you are doing but harder. 4th corner your entry is early, try to be a bit more late, brake on the right and then come back in with throttle to get speed for that straight, don't use second gear. Last corner, try to carry more speed, brake earlier, less wheel, and do it with the throttle letting the car flow to that downhill. You can get 1sec faster just by nailing that two corners.

I fell very comfortable with cars that oversteer, they are usually my favorites. To be fast with that S2k(and maybe the majority of cars of that genre) you have to transform a corner in a big controlled slide, and that means dealing with oversteer all the time, turning less with the wheel and more with the throttle. That car is great and you can exceed it's limit without getting bitten.

The key for that combo: throttle on immediately after the brakes are released, then it's just controlling the rear and neutralising understeer with accel.

Well that is what i do...hope it helps you to shave some secs!

Basically Qualy Starts at 11:00 or maybe Race 1 Does, but then after Race 1, DO NOT change the time back to default, you race the second race like how the time is, Same for Apricot Hill and Silverstone

thanks a lot leo! i'll try that tonight... sometimes i would overcook a turn and spin... i am still trying to find the right balance... actually it is more of a consistency issue. i would nail all turns and screw the last turn and end up in the sand. practice practice!

Leo has a point about the 4th turn. I see a lot of similarities to Nurburgring's 3rd turn. Late breaking, late turn in.

Turn 1 gets me too. I haven't figured out the right angle and braking spot yet. And I tend to get too shallow in turn 4 as well.

Brake halfway between the 2nd and 3rd braking boards into low 4th gear (130 - 140 km/h), cross over to inside, floor it down the hill.

BTW, I'm (not) sorry for bringing in my hobby to the thread. I did it before, and I will do it again. Heck:

I did it again.

Well, that... was random on my part. Uh, hopefully this won't deter you guys from coming out to practice (seriously, don't be afraid of coming).

The unofficial practice last night was a big improvement for me. Thanks for the tips @BionicDerp and @LeoStrop. Still have a long way to go. I need more left thumb control, got a fix for that :)

for some reason when the 1st mini practice race... i had black screen. waited for few minutes then I switched the ps3 off. how was it?

My son's Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby officially started this month... Couldn't have been better timing since he spends almost as much time on GT6 as I do these days so his first reaction was "I want to build a Le Mans car!"

So, if I disappear randomly for the next month (I'll definitely still be racing on Saturday nights) it's because I'm off redesigning the R18 TDI with 0 downforce, haha.:D

As much as I can't stand the Boy Scouts sometimes, I do appreciate the one event a year that lets us geek out over physics and engineering rather than how to identify whether a leaf came from an Oak tree or an Elm... :odd:
