Hello everyone! As you may, or may not, noticed that I haven't raced on Sat in a while and I think I owe it to cmbeal to say why. I started racing in this SPEC series from it's inception over two years ago. I always looked forward to racing every Sat night until, what for it, we started running these special events. It turned me off. I'm not saying that the special events are a bad thing, I'm saying having one is fine but having multiples during the season turned me off.

So I have an idea. Can't we run the full season with the car/tracks that are chosen and save the other events for after the season. After the season have a couple/few special races like last season and then start the new season with the new car/tracks and so on. I liked it better without the special events.
I agree with you on this. I think the most exciting races are full grids where everyone is racing the same car and pit strategy affects the race. The multi class racing is alright but I am usually racing against maybe 3 other people and most of the time I am just lapping by myself looking in the rear view for when I need to get out of the way of the faster cars. I like how it used to be where I would come out every week and know that it was going to be a close race and a challenge to get a podium finish. I notice now that every week there are several people that don't even know what car we are racing. That's just my opinion and you all are of course welcome to choose to run the series how you like. I will try to show up when the next spec season begins.

Update from Le Mans, after 7 hours, we have done 130 laps, currently third in class
lord knows how many laps after multiple DCs..but at 3AM on the Mulsanne...quite an experience...when not being over run by clueless LMP cars
I Asked to join the past season to make the nurburgring special event, because there was only a race left in the season I not make it, so now can I be in the roster of new season? :)
Tenderly is fast and fun. He was the quickest of my team mates in the IOUW (S.L.O.W. BMW:irked:)

@gtp_Tenderly
You could've joined us in some of those races at the end of the season to get used to how the process is (ie cautions, tyres). Welcome to the enduro side of snail!

nope all my SNAIL team mates in the #6 McLaren had real life conflicts so I joined IOYW racing BWM panzerlump ...all SNAILS BTW..and I have been endurance racing with other sanctioning bodies as well as SNAIL. Inexperience had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. Ours was a very last minute operation. We had a blast and will be back. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. The one and only benefit of driving a GT car in an LMP race is to keep score on which LMP drivers were a threat and which ones were good. You were good. Another SNAIL...not so much...he crashed at least three times while trying to lap me in a straight line. It was humorous to see the arriving bullet swerve left then right then left...then disappear in a cloud (large) of dust. He really could not make up his mind. To all those who might want to do this...follow Danger's suggestion join numerous endurance races and learn the trade...it is a far cry from 7 lap sprint races. Our stints were set up by time zone in two hour (two tanks for the BMW) blocks. Doing a two hour stint is like a weekly enduro, but then doing a minimum of two more....the fun is cumulative...but so is the fatigue factor. But as the race went on...all improved with EVERY stint.

Sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner, but your more than welcome to join us next season. We didn't race this weekend as a few of us were participating in the GTPlanet 24 Hours of Le Mans. I'll send you a friend request, and once you race with us I'll add you to the list of active racers. Hope to see you Saturday night! :)

Hello everyone! As you may, or may not, noticed that I haven't raced on Sat in a while and I think I owe it to cmbeal to say why. I started racing in this SPEC series from it's inception over two years ago. I always looked forward to racing every Sat night until, what for it, we started running these special events. So I have an idea. Can't we run the full season with the car/tracks that are chosen and save the other events for after the season. After the season have a couple/few special races like last season and then start the new season with the new car/tracks and so on. I liked it better without the special events.

I think I took it a little too far with the special events. I had them scheduled so that they would occur around the same time the actual race was taking place. I know that meant breaking up seasons to hold them and that might not be the best idea. I think moving forward, I'm gonna cancel the future events.

That's because I've been pondering another idea for a long time. In addition to having our usual same make races, I'm gonna throw the option of having class races. For example, the person who gets pick the new car would also have the option to pick from predetermined and balanced classes. Possible options could include:

Super GT:
2006+ GT500 - R35 GTR, HSV, NSX, SC430
Early 2000's GT500 - R34 GTR, Supra, NSX
GT300 - RX7, Imprezza, BRZ, ARTA Gariaiya, IS350

Le Mans:
2010+ Prototypes - TS030, R18, 908
Early 2000's Prototypes - Speed 8, R8, Pescarolos, BMW V12 LMR, GT-One
Group C Prototypes - 787B, C9, XJR9, R89C, R92CP, 905
90's GT1 - F1 GTR(Longtail), CLK-LM, R390, Esperante GTR-1, Lister Storm
60's Sports cars - MK IV, 330 P4, XJ 13

Touring Cars:
GT3 - SLS, GTR, R8 LMS, Z4
90's DTM - Calibra, Alfa 155, AMG 190E
2000's DTM - Abt TT-R, Astra, CLK

Nascar:
2010 Season
2011 Season
2013 Season

This would give us more options than just having everyone race the same car. It's something that we could implement with relative ease as all we'd need to do is balance and put a list for each class together. Since we're not called S.P.E.C. racing anymore, I can't see any reason why we couldn't deviate from everyone running the same car.

Sure, your more than welcome to join in the regular season too!

I was talking about the regular SPEC season
The spec series was overwhelmed for me by other considerations but not forgotten...the racing is great and it is more fun than the multi spec processionals ....that is why I'm back full time.... But reading Beals message above makes me hesitate because I really do have a knack for picking the wrong car...and spec racing is above all else the best training ground.
So my suggestion is have the special events with appropriate cars but keep the spec cars for the weekly races. As long as this series is spec it is a natural progression from the Sunday Night Races which are the foundation of the League. And I for one love it.

Hey @cmbeal317, I think we should do a regular season of one spec car and then just have a special event, and instead of having different cars in different classes, just run two cars, one in each class.

@cmbeal317
I'm sure you've been busy since last weekend but can you post what the car and track are for this Saturday 7/19? I may be able to join but I've seen posts about a new car and track choices which conflict with your first post.

Thanks man. :gtpflag:

The plan is to still have the race this weekend, I'll be announcing the car and track list shortly. :)
