I love driving the karts but the don't mesh with my driving style, which is drive onto every rumble strip I see. If I don't practice and alter my line for the karts ahead of time I just bounce my way along the red and white. Next week I am going to practice some and be much more consistent.
kcheeb can you send me a message on PSN when you are getting the gearing for next week so I could run some laps with you?

A little advice, the rumble strips can be nasty, but if you let off the throttle when you go overt them, generally you will not flip and spin all over the place. Think it is something to do with the solid axle, if one tire goes airborne, then the other tires will start to spin and then that's were you go also :lol: . You may lose a few tenths lifting, but it is much better than the other option 👍

How were you guys working T3 at Laguna? I did some gear work when i was practicing this weekend and used a bit taller 4th because I felt the lift point was too close to the shift point. Then a slightly shorter 5th to pull me up the back hill heading to the corkscrew. In practice I still managed mid 30.xxx

I have have no clue what gears I was using, but I was about 100 RPMs off the redline going up hill in 5th. I think I had a long 6th as I remember not using all of it.

Without draft I was at redline in 5th going up the hill. In draft I was still safe. I was also near redline in 6th heading into T1.

Sounds like you were using the first gearing option. It was definitely the smoother of the two. I was using the second gearing option. It used almost all of 6th gear on the front straight. But quite a few more gear changes. The times I ran in practice for either setup were very close.

In turn three with that setup I was on the verge of going to sixth gear, depended on how well I took turn two. I can't remember the times I was running though. That was my favourite track of the night, the corkscrew made you work for every 100th :)

Ah! I goofed. I was actually curious how you fast guys were getting through Turn 2 (not 3). With the suggested gearing it seemed I would get to the top of 4th gear almost soon enough heading to T3 to shift up, then lift a bit for the entry; but the apex speed wasn't high enough to keep the revs up enough to have enough torque to pull out of the corner well. That's why I went with a bit more gear in 4th... to keep the revs up higher through that corner. I was also close using all of 6th on the main "straight". I was curious if you guys were taking Turn 2 in 5th or not. I didn't know there was a gearing option. I just tweaked it from the 124mph and FGR suggestion. But I'm a newbie so not sure if there was actually any benefit to it at all.

1: 2.574
2: 1.855
3: 1.410
4: 1.090
5: 0.970
6: 0.850
F: 4.57

I don't know if you goofed or not, you just used different gearing :) And it's going to vary from person to person to get the absolute most out of the Kart and your abilities.

I used the following standard 118 MPH setup:

1. 2.661
2. 1.929
3. 1.471
4. 1.171
5. 0.972
6. 0.843
F. 4.62

Don' know the speed I was going through turn 2 at, but if everything went to plan, it was almost 5th gear.

I don't spend too, too, much time on the gearing, just use a simple formula.

1. Start with a standard set of gearing and find out which speed slider is close.
2. Adjust the Final gear, if needed, to allow for some drafting, ie. revs left at the end of the longest straight.

With the non-shifter Karts sometimes, depending on the track, you have to make decisions in the set up. Gear a little more for the slower corners or gear for the straights.

I also have a method as well for getting gearing, it is a few more steps.

1. Find a camera/camera phone.
2. look up your gearing post for the week.
3. Open the Google Docs link and take a picture of the setting sheet.
4. Move to the room with the PS3, copy settings from devices display.

Great racing yet again last night. battling @Dragonwhisky 2 weeks ago and @bdubclub last night, it is some of the closest racing I have had in GT6 👍 Can't wait for next week.

Yes. Yes they are.
Thanks for the compliment dragon 👍. I really believe that if you can learn how to go fast in a kart, it translates very well to the standard cars. I was nowhere near as quick as I am today before I started racing karts on the regular. It will teach you to be much more precise with your inputs, which is the key to going fast in any car on this game. Two guys that come to mind that were pretty much exclusive kart guys before switching to cars, GTP_Banditkarter and doodlemonopoly, which if you look at the top of any of the seasonals, those two guys will usually be right up with the best of them.(and in many of them, the best).

And yes, those races were great carracer, great battles all throughout the night. The amount of improvement you showed in such a short time, really shows what class of racer you are. 👍

I think I'm finally getting go-karts again. In GT5 1.0, I loved them, but after 2.0 I lost my pace, I found it again in GT6 but I still push too hard, makes for a few great laps, and many trips to the sand trap.

Wait... Do we actually have to be part of SNAIL to take part in these?

I don't think so. If you're willing to get in there and give carracer, bdub and brando a go, come on out. Might be we have some folks in SNAIL prime that could give all you gents a run for your money, if you so chose to join.

No you don't, although the door to S.N.A.I.L. is always open ;)

I'll be posting the winners in a bit. They choose 3 tracks for next week, with an Oval (ish) track for the finale.

Just post here you'd like to partake and away we go. Room #'s are posted Tuesday evening around 8:45 P.M. EST.

Oh wow. How have I not decided to join this before? :ouch: Out of all the cars used in all leagues on GTP, how could I've possibly missed this? :lol:

Just to make sure I don't forget. I bookmarked this thread on my browser.

Here are the Prize Winners for this week, sorry for the delay, I really need to get you some more time.

@bdubclub
@simracejesse
@Chiochan

We're racing the 125's next week, please choose your tracks accordingly :)

If by noon (MST) Saturday I don't have a all the picks in, I'll make an executive decision. I use Saturday to do the gearing and it's really the best time for my schedule. I'll make sure to give the winners more time next week 👍

Hi! I'm fan of the Karts. In OP says that next race is Feb 4th, 2014 - 9:00 P.M. Eastern Time. What's time that is in GMT? Is it 2:00 am GMT?
I'm living Europe / Scandinavia and my time zone is GMT +2.
