You can choose all three cars Brando
I'm sorry I didn't realize what you meant when I first read this. I chose the 90s DTM cars for the next season (all 3) but I hadn't driven any of them yet so I am testing them out to see which one I will pick for myself to race.

Everyone else can choose their own from the three that are listed.

So far I think they are balanced well. I think the Mercedes will be good in a straight line and has the advantages that come with a FR car. The Opel and Alfa are AWD which will be superior if we get any rain. Right now it is a tough choice.

Season 19 is shaping up to be a good one. With three evenly matched DTM cars to choose from, and a choice of FR or AWD drivetrains, there should be some great racing and pit strategy will be important.

Are we starting this Saturday? If so, could we update the thread title and first post to try and attract enough people for a full grid? We have three tracks selected and just need two more to complete the schedule.

Seeing as Monza still had the 80's configuration we have in GT6 through 1994, I'm going to pick Autodromo Nazionale Monza 80's. I'll be sticking with the Merc too!

Still waiting on @fizzer's track selection and then I can announce the schedule for Season 19. In addition to the season announcement, I'll also include a list of drivers and the car they have picked to race this season. :)

Also, I'm going to start working on the next class of cars this week, and I'm thinking that the 2006+ Super GT500 will be the next to be balanced. If all goes to plan I should have at least 3 or 4 more classes balanced by the end of the season. :)

I am planning on running opal

Sorry, I had to

I am still deciding between the Opel and the Alpha. The Mercedes is fast but I am more consistent with the other two.

@cmbeal317 If you are open to changes, there are a couple aspects of this series I would like to express my opinion about:

1. Grid starts with false start check:
I know at one point we had a grid start with false start checks instead of the normal grid start that we use now. The false start option has a red light countdown (5 lights go red and then they turn green to start). It really builds the excitement and anticipation of the start of the race like in real life. It also requires more skill (reaction time) when the lights go out and will reward drivers who get a better launch. It gives drivers a chance to overtake into the first corner which will be valuable on tracks that are difficult to overtake like Monaco and Rome. Without false start check we just start the race in order of qualifying and all file into our positions at the start. There is no skill involved and we lose all of the excitement of one of the most important and special parts of racing - the start.

2. Penalties:
Currently we have penalties set to Strong. I understand the desire to deter people from short cutting the track but the strong penalties end up ruining people's races more often than doing what they are intended to do. How many of us have been touched ever so gently by another driver only to get ghosted with a 5 or 10 second penalty? How many of you have touched the rear bumper of the car ahead at a restart and ghosted while the entire field passes by? We have a great group of trustworthy drivers and we all respect the rules. If someone is found to have shortcut the track or caused collisions they should be penalized with a DQ or heavy points penalty. I say remove in game strong penalties, let us race, and sort out any major violations after the checkered flag. I will even volunteer to help review any incidents if needed.

At the very least, you could still use penalties on Nurb GP/F and Monza to police the chicanes but remove penalties on tracks like Monaco and Rome where the track edge is all guardrail and there are no areas to cut the track.

For a while we did run with the false start check, then for some reason I can't remember we stopped. I've got no problem with bringing that back.

As for penalties, I too have noticed people complaining about getting penalties for just touching another car. I don't think we'd have a problem turning them down to weak, or even completely off. The penalties it gives you for shortcuts barely slow you down anyway. Plus, I think most of us are clean enough and know the boundaries that we won't cut anyway.

For now, I'll reinstate the false start check, and set the penalties to weak with the possibility of turning them off completely. City tracks will have penalties off irregardless from this point forward. :)

@cmbeal317 - I have a couple questions for you

  1. Just to confirm the car you start the season with is the car you race the entire season with, correct?
  2. Now that we have gone to a timed race, is there as time frame prior to the cautions when the pits are closed? For example, Pits close at 35 & 75 mins into the race until they are opened during the caution periods? In the old format the pits were closed the lap prior to the cautions however since the new timed format, that seems to have lost its meaning now.
Thanks

1. I would hope that everyone sticks with the car they pick at the start of the season, and I encourage everyone to try as many of the possible cars to find the one they like the best. :)

2. I don't think I ever added it to the regulations for cautions, but the pits are open until the leader types caution at the beginning of the caution period. This was brought up during the race at Spa a few weeks ago, and as long as your in pit lane before the leader types caution your okay.

I'd like to join if there are any spots open. The DTM sounds exciting.
Welcome @GTP_Vertigo,

We'd be more than glad to have you join us. Please make sure you have read all of the first post, and I'll be sending you a FR later today. Hope to see you on track tomorrow night. :)

I hate to do this cmbeal, I'm going to run the opel calibra for this season. I picked the alpha in hast after testing the wrong track. This will be my car for the rest of this season.
