Not really a problem. I happen to agree with you. Part of the issue is the varying colors in the background of the pictures being used. If you look at the banners there is some background color adjustment in place to make the white text stand out a little better. Don't know if the links are dynamically live and if he's already edited them to provide that contrasting background. I was thinking maybe a blacked out area, or maybe the back ground coloring of the current SNAIL Logo/Banners, just low enough and across the entire width of the banner to enhance the text and make it pop out a bit harder for those of us with more "mature" eyesight.

Altho the text is sort of small i think the contrast between text and background is fine ... however i admit my eyes are only 24years old hehehhe ... the way it is now: the text itself has a broad shadow applied ... u can tell its there if a picture has something light on top, like a sky ... its also there on darker pics however it fades more into the pic ... as a dark pics makes a natural contrast already (like round 2 currently)

that shadow sits betweens 75 and 80 percent i think, im not sure right now, will look at when im home and open it ...
i could make it even darker but i dont think its the problem ... maybe the font is just too small?
i will experiment with even a darker shadow, maybe slightly bigger font and try out a diffrent way to position it.

Its 2:15am now.. lol I was trying to figure out what I had to get as far as the car and what I had to do to make it legit?? I dont know if the series is even accepting new people or not? Thought I would check it out? Sounds like a blast!!
We were still sorting details out when DCschwinn arrived. Tonight we tried utilizing boost and ballast in various races with different scenarios...trying to find the optimum combination of ballast and/or boost....and the answer was yes. The racing was staggeringly fun with almost uncountable passes and a serious amount of educational door handle racing. We are addressing some concerns with Aliens vs D8 but will have that fixed in time to test on this coming Monday We will test on Monday night around 9:30 and I will post a proper announcement and explanation on how boost actually works shortly.
While the new Banner design is artful, and has good visual composition ..... It is my opinion that the data, the primary reason for the weekly display, is difficult to read.

Of course, some will say it is my ancient eye sight at fault, a reasonable charge.

However, the contrast between text and background is insufficient to provide easy reading and comprehension of the details.

Please, artist, do not take offense.
As my wife says, " Everyone is entitled to my opinion". She even gave me a coffe mug that says so.

it is a Ferrari. NART was Luigi Chineti's Team who was the sole US Ferrari Importer.for North America(. Sorry for the spelling of his name if incorrect) It was the Official Racing team run by Ferrari in North America and thus was known as North American Racing Team NART to differentiate it from the Italian run cars from Modena. NART cars participated not only in NA but in Europe specifically at Le Mans . Racing History 101 is terminated. Lol.

No, I've taken everything apart and clean it all the time. If you read my previous post, it's my potentiometers. They're just worn out. and I lubricate the pedals regularly, it's not sticking or anything and never has. I don't just take it apart and do nothing :P I've tried to find fixes but that involves tampering with the potentiometers, and I don't want to risk making them worse than they already are and wasting to buy another wheel or purchasing something that I don't have to :P
Yes, I read both posts. Pots is an abbreviation for potentiometers. They are the only thing that needs "contact cleaner with lubricant" sprayed inside. If the pots do not have a hole allowing you to snake the "straw thing" that attaches to the nozzle you will need to take it apart as I'm guessing the video fzappa posted shows. Everything else should be cleaned with compressed air.

The cheapest pots should still last a minimum of 10,000 cycles and nowadays "long-life" models offering 2 million or more cycles are available. If you truly have worn out your pots, which is indeed possible, you can replace them yourself without too much difficulty, though if you've never soldered before definitely practice soldering and un-soldering something until you're comfortable (seriously, should only take 5 minutes of practice and 20 at the absolute longest before you find you feel comfortable operating a solder pen or gun).
 
This week I picked up a new customer that owns a bunch of Jiffy Lubes and Big O Tire locations and I met the owner at his office near the Torrance airport and to my surprise, this guy is a car collector


He said that this slot car track took 2 years to build and everything is hand made. He has over 1000 spectator figures that were all hand made and painted. He also as a timer where he can make it turn day to night in 20 minutes and the ceiling has LED lights to look like stars. Sorry for the out of focus pic but he did invite me back when he has races on Saturdays.

You need to introduce him to GT6 and SNAIL!

I think the font is fine. Maybe bump up the size 1 or 2 and lose the shadow. If you keep the shadow then tighten it up and make it more opaque. If you want, you could try a thin black outline around the text to highlight the white text more.

You could play with it a bit. Everything is fine. The text needs to stand out more and a be a tick larger.
 
How does shifting work with the G27? If I want to use paddles I can ignore the clutch pedal like I have a DFGT? Does the clutch work well?
The clutch works but I dont think most use it in big races as the paddle shifters or straight shifting are faster .. most times you can switch shifting methods between all three on the fly mid race( I say most cause it used to be i could switch anytime but now a few random times I've been locked on paddles for a race )

yes you can ignore the clutch pedal...I am actually removing mine as we speak. I had already removed the pad....but now I am removing the post. You will not have to do this...I am doing it because I have a left foot injury that makes me more likely to hit both brake and clutch at the same time. Also remember that the manual gear selector will select the gear the stick is in when you enter the track or more importantly when you are starting a race. Case in point in the Miata Test races last night, one time, when the lights went out I jerked and putted from the line...my manual gear selector was in 3d and that is the gear I got when the car left the grid. Remember to select first when on the grid...either with the manual shifter or with the paddle.

When using paddles you don't have to use the clutch. Just ignore it like the DFGT, and shifting with H pattern you can use the clutch if you want to. You don't have to use the clutch for shifting H pattern as well. But besides that, the clutch works great on any game. But with GT5 and GT6 using the clutch is a bit wakey/weird with any wheel/pedals.

Yeah I paid 2k over blue book and took me a year to find, very hard to find a unmolested clean sh with all services and clean car fax, I get offers all the time but I keep turning them time.

After a very good test last night we will run a series of test races on Monday Night around 9:30 Eastern featuring the use of boost and ballast. We need at least one driver from all Divisions. If necessary we will run two rooms. Host for Monday will be @GTP_Vertigo .

Does the H-Shifter feel tough and sturdy or plasticy and clicks like the DFGT?

The shifter is light, a bit of a plasticy feel to it, but I can't compare it to the DFGT, haven't used that wheel. G27 takes a few runs to get used to the way it shifts. The harder and more aggressive you are with shifting, the more likely you are to miss a shift, or get it hung up between gates. I only use the shifter when I'm casually racing online, or single player. Paddle shifters are much quicker, and less for your mind to keep track of.

Also, on the topic of the weekly banners, I think the font is what is really making it tough on the eyes. It doesn't anti alias well (in the laps and qualifying lines), and I think generally, it's not a font that's very easy to read in small sizes on a computer screen. A quick comparison would be reading "Indianapolis" in the IMS logo on that banner, versus "Qualifying", and it anti aliases much better, and even when the word takes up much less space, it's easy to read. I would try experimenting with some fonts like Verdana or something similar.

Also, if it's too much, ignore this next part, because I know you already put your hard earned time into these, and we all appreciate it so much! The spacing between the letters within the words is a big gap, and that could be contributing to making it difficult to read. If you know how to reduce the spacing between letters in a word, try bringing them closer together, that might help!

I use a g25 and dont use the clutch at all ... i have turned my shifter to sequential mode wich disables the clutch and bought aftermarket g25/27 brake pedal wich mounts to regular brake and clutch making it one big pedal ... i think on g27 the only way to disable clutch is disconnecting its cable because its impossible to switch to sequential stick as they removed that option

I have the same pedal plate. I bought it because I don't use the clutch pedal either. It doesn't work on the G27. I disconnected the clutch pedal wires and the other pedals didn't work.

What happens when you take out the potentiometer from the clutch pedal and just lay/tape it into the housing, so it wouldnt trigger even when its connected? Would that even work?

Our mission is to provide our members with the cleanest and most competitive racing experience possible with minimal prep time required. Evenly-Matched Competition
Have you ever watched a professional race where drivers with completely different skill levels were competing on the same track? Of course not! That wouldn't be fun to watch, let alone fun to participate in. Unfortunately, that disparity of pace is something you'll often find in organized online racing. When this happens, you'll be lucky to have just a few drivers that you're truly competitive with. Everyone else will usually either be faster or slower than you. We prevent that from happening in S.N.A.I.L. by dividing our drivers into separate divisions based on speed and skill. This results in full grids of evenly-matched competition and creates the closest and most intense sim racing experience around!

Prepare for GT Academy
If you have your eye on competing in GT Academy, there's no better place than S.N.A.I.L. to hone your skills to the elite levels necessary to make it to the finals. You need to be the best of the best to make it to Silverstone, and that's exactly what the drivers in our top division are. Half of last year's and this year's GT Academy Silverstone Finalists race in S.N.A.I.L., and they were able to use their experience in this league to help get them there. Spec Racing
S.N.A.I.L. was the first GTPlanet league to prohibit tuning in all of our races. This combined with the fact that we race in the same cars produces a type of racing called "spec" racing. Spec racing ensures that success is determined solely by driving skill and not by differences in car power, gearing, suspension, weight, or aerodynamics. Because variables in the car are eliminated, spec racing is the truest measure of driver skill! It also produces intense battles for position because all of the cars are equally strong or weak in the same areas of the track. Another benefit of spec racing is that you'll never spend time tuning cars or wondering if someone is truly faster than you or if they just have a better tune.

Race Format
Our league night lasts for two hours and is split into three rounds. Each round consists of two races that last 10 to 12 minutes on a predetermined car and track combo. At the beginning of each round, a brief qualifying session determines the order of the starting grid. The first race is set to 'Fastest First' to reward the best qualifiers and the second race is set to 'Reverse Grid' in order to promote on-track action. Points are awarded based on our "perfect" points system. After a round is completed, we move on to the next round and repeat the same process with the next car and track combination. Once all three rounds are complete, we tally up the points and then let our interactive format kick in.

Interactive Process
Our unique format allows everyone to have a say on which cars and tracks we race. It is also used to strike a balance between familiarity and variety of cars and tracks. In other words, the progression of cars and tracks that we race is slow enough for us to learn them well, but fast enough that they don't get "old". At the end of every league night, we ask everyone to vote on which car and track combo they enjoyed the least. The combo that receives the most "elimination votes" is dropped from the next week's lineup entirely. The combo that receives the second most votes is also dropped, but only partially. This is where our prizes play an important role in our interactive format.

Prizes
A prize is awarded to the divisions winners with the three highest scores*. The division winner with the highest score gets Prize A. The division winner with the second highest score gets Prize B. The division winner with the third highest score gets Prize C: (NOTE: We now have a new process for breaking ties in the elimination vote)
Prize A: The right to select the new car and track combo to replace the combo that was voted off
Prize B: The right to replace either the car or the track of the combo that received the second most votes
Prize C: The right to "freeze" either the car or the track of the combo that received the second most votes

Promotion and Relegation
Although we split our drivers into separate divisions based on performance and skill level, we realize that our drivers are constantly improving and deserve a chance to climb the ladder of success. That's why we promote and relegate drivers before every season based on the results and data compiled during the previous season. This is also done to ensure that our races are as competitive as possible for all of our league members, top to bottom. Regardless of which division you're in, you will almost always be fighting to gain or defend a position on the track. Simply put, no other Gran Turismo league in the world can offer this much competitive racing to so many different skill levels.

Comprehensive Race Data
It's not always accurate to promote and relegate drivers based on championship points alone. That's why the massive amounts of data we track are invaluable to our league. You'd be hard-pressed to find a sim racing league anywhere in the world that tracks driver data and race results more comprehensively than we do. In fact, our S.N.A.I.L. Results document contains so much information that we have to archive old data to avoid exceeding the GoogleDoc's maximum capacity! You can use this data to track the points championship for each season and compare yourself to other drivers in categories such as fast laps, total race pace, total points, average points per race, and power rankings.

Rules
We expect all drivers to follow our OLR Rules and pursue good racecraft at all times. If you're not sure what good racecraft is, watch this video. It can be summed up in one simple 'Golden Rule' of motorsports: It is the responsibility of the overtaking driver, meaning the car that is attempting to execute the pass, to make sure that the pass is made cleanly and incident free. If you don't agree with this rule or don't think it applies to you, this is not the league for you. If you ever feel like a driver is not following the rules, please wait until league night is over, then file a Racing Incident Report. Our Stewards will review the incident and enforce the appropriate penalty on the driver in question.

How To Join Us
Step 1: Post a request to join (do not PM me, just post your request on this thread)
Step 2: Watch the thread for a reply to your post (it will include detailed Time Trial instructions)
Step 3: Purchase the three cars listed in the latest lineup below
Step 4: Get an oil change on each car, but do not do anything else to the car (e.g. add parts or reduce weight)
Step 5: Wait to be assigned to a division and then send Friend Requests to the hosts of your division. Then join your division host's room on Sunday night and race!

I'm going to try that on my other set of pedals. If it works than I'll put my other GTEYE spring in the clutch pedal and have one in the brake pedal and put the pedal plate on.
