But it's bad deterrent, bowler mentioned how people went wide @ spa, & no penalties, while @ sarthe we got penalties when we didn't cut.
Edit: I'm interested in the thoughts of other d1 drivers, I might be the only one as far as I know against it.

He said, if I remember correctlly, its a true run-off area but don't use it to gain a postion or use it to keep your position by running really wide.

Thank you Glock! LOL!

We took a vote after the May 6th races. Click here and scroll to the right to see how D1 voted. If you want to see how D2 voted, go one tab to the right. The D3 votes are one more tab to the right.

Lots of people go wide on that big left sweeper at Spa, but not everyone uses it to their advantage. Having the penalties on or off won't change this. However, I'm confident that turning the penalties off would encourage some drivers to use every advantage they can get.

Only 3 of the very few drivers who wanted penalties off are still active in SNAIL.

I agree. While the penalty system is far from perfect, it does serve a purpose. It keeps honest people honest without requiring stewards to review every lap of every driver just to make sure. As I've stated before, this is how I wish the penalty system could be adjusted.

I can't say whether D1 drivers cut corners more than any other division but I can assure you that D1 drivers do cut corners whether or not it is intentional.

Interestingly enough, YOU were the only one in D1 that voted penalties off that night! :odd:

This is true, I've witnessed it and committed the infraction, not on purpose of course. I don't always hit my marks and occasionally it results in me being very, very close or outside the margin of the track. I suspect this is the case for most drivers, D1, 2 & 3. I've also had to use the runoff areas for the same reason :ill:

But, I don't do either consistently as I value my integrity as a driver above standing on a podium or finishing seventh instead of eighth.

Yeah, I've had a change of heart about that.

So then as far as I know, there is only one active driver in each division that wants penalties off. Bronco in D1, spooble in D2, and Vol in D3. If any of you guys ever feel like you've convinced more drivers that penalties should be turned off, simply ask for a re-vote.

All three of those drivers are participating in the tuner series that Vol is promoting. No penalties there. Any one interested can sign up for next season in August.

If the only reason to turn them off is so drivers don't pass through ghosted cars, wouldn't it make more sense for drivers to just make sure they don't go through ghosted cars, and if they do, to give the position back? Sure, it might cost them other positions, but realistically, hitting spun out car in real life would have much worse consequences than losing a few positions.

You should be prepared to slow down and go around a car if it has an accident. If you notice it's ghosted and decide to drive right through, you can't really blame the penalty system for losing positions.

If we're just talking about turning penalties off so there won't be any cases of passing through ghosting to look for, that's silly too. If we do that, we'll have to look for cases of corner cutting instead. I would imagine it's easier to look for ghosted cars and see if people go through than to watch the replay for every car and see if they cut any corners.

Also the tuner series counts rumble strips as track, while this is tarmac only.

I'm for the consequences, I'm also for heavy damage. To make racing more interesting. Then drivers focus hard on no rubbing lol.

If you've done GT Academy (5-3) enough times, you'll see that going wide is the worst thing to do (while still having a clean run)...You don't gain anything there...

Penalities on weak or strong:I'm ok with that.

The only reason we do is because SNAIL does. I used to follow the white line rule, but SNAIL started allowing two wheels on rumble strips (which is in line with the OLR, 16.B I think).

Now, I haven't watched the replay, but from my point of view during the races last night, I didn't see a lot of corner cutting, and we raced at Trial Mountain. I will say that I remember one case, in the first sector, where I went all four off the track. It wasn't intentional, it wasn't what I normally did, and I was off my line. I had to adjust for the next corner, so I don't imagine I was any faster. A shortcut penalty then would've been insult to injury. I'm already off my line and praying that I don't spin and stuff it, I don't need a shortcut penalty.

Yes, I think there are a lot of us that would behave without penalties, and I'm hoping to be able to watch the replay and see last night as an example of it.

I hate the penalties because I hate the collision penalties for things that weren't your fault, or the short cut penalties because you went wide to avoid an accident. I hate the randomness of the shortcut penalties, and I really hate the ghosting cars.

Yeah it is slower from my experience, because I can go just as fast through the turn without going wide if I have good turn in.

Edit: Wait snail allows two wheels on rumble? I thought it was tarmac.

This is not correct. We count rumble strips as track too. Click here to see why.

EDIT: Ninja'd by.. a ninja? Bronco apparently has realized that we consider rumble strips as track, but I don't see any post but mine regarding that.

It was vol.
That means I didnt go wide or cut last night. I thought I had went wide lil on my Q lap @ spa, but now I know it was clean. It was hardly two wheels on rumble.

Edit: I got ninja'd cause take me 5 min to type on cell lol

I say leave the penalties on and just follow the rules that are in place. Don't cut corners, don't use run-off areas on half of your race laps, and treat ghosted cars as solid. If you cause a car to ghost by making contact with it and then drive through it, you've done something that is outside the rules. You should really think about giving that position back on the track.

I saw other instances two drivers made minor contact and the lead car ghosted. The trailing car was, for a second passing through the lead car. The trailing car made the decision to back off and allow the lead car to get back in front before continuing at full speed. This is what should happen.

On a side note, if you receive a penalty and are ghosted, you need to get out of the racing line. You are running slower and your car could return to being solid right in front of someone traveling at a much higher rate of speed and cause an accident that would be your fault for being in the racing line.

Vol, I can send you a #3 if you want. In fact, here's a list of the numbers/colors I have:

#3 / Silver
#5 / Red
#9 / Yellow
#22 / Yellow
#33 / Black
#55 / Blue
#66 / White

Let me know if anyone wants any of these (I had a few more, but lost them to a corrupt data file :() Obviously, priority goes to the anyone who has one of these numbers or colors already reserved here.
If you haven't given it away already, I'd like the Yellow #22. It's a color that suits me and 22 is similar to 12.

I'll send you the black #33 from my OCD in return.

Well said, Bowler. 👍

I want to say that was me at GV/R. Or least it did happen to me and i did what was said above. What can I say, Im learning =)

And if i had to pick, i would say the Ferrari is going to stay and the track goes. But just a guess.
Congratulations Nic on 1st

Speaking of which, I've updated the lineup for easy reference.

Handlebar, thanks for your estimates on the laps. We'll use them tonight to nail down the exact laps during tonight's practice races. 👍

I was running 2:07 in the Renault and 0:425 in the Ferrari. With D1swag'd in, it is probably 6 for Monza (though I would vote 5...), and probably 16-17 once the "resident alien" drivers take their cuts.

Thanks for dropping by, nateral00.

I got down to 2:06 on that last lap at Monza. That car is a lot of fun. I can't wait until we are done with the Ferrari though.
