I came across this clip and was wondering what you guys think. It's a compilation of the top ten DTM overtakes and since we have recently been discussing overtaking and the right approach. So here you go. Hopefully this will start a lively debate that I can read when i get home later and let's keep it light but informative. would be nice to see what members vote as their favourite.

my favourite is number 2. Number 1 for me was just too rough and had too much body contact plus a cut across a corner. yes it wasn't much but if we are going by principles of racing with regulations then it had to be max 3rd for me or arguably lower.

Haha bro' @Engmatic1 , I really enjoyed #4, Snail-like ;)
cheers

If those are considered clean passing, then I guess I need to drive a little more aggressively... I wasn't aware that kind of stuff was acceptable. Boxing the other car out of the line is one thing, but not braking enough and running into the outside car, causing them to slide seems dirty to me?

Also I'm confused about #1. Wasn't that a pit maneuver on the black car at the end there? A great pass?

Maybe it's because I tend to prefer open wheel racing and thus cleaner cornering and overtakes. IDK

Just because it isn't a race car doesn't mean it won't be quote on quote 'Interesting'... I predict many races that are won by a bumper with that combo. Nice suggestion @racingchamp30!

Ty @RobbiefromBC This would be my first time picking a track/car combination. I haven't gotten in that position since starting in Snail so it was an honor for me to pick a car/track combo since @aLmk has won in the past. I figured we haven't raced on High Speed Ring in awhile and might not have raced the car yet to the one i picked. Will be interesting to see which new car/track combo is picked.

Is that kind of rubbing and overtaking encouraged in SNAIL?

In the 2 years i have been in snail, have as much least rubbing as much as possible. Overtake in a timely, patient, clean fashion. If a driver rubs way too much against another to get a pass instead of taking their time and doing it in a good racecraft manner, they will be seen on the track as too aggressive.

Wow, that's a beautifully kept Type R! Much respect to the owner, although it's in only slightly better condition than mine was the last time I saw her..

I would say no. You need to make and complete a pass without contact or moving another car off its line

Okay, good. That's the way I've been approaching D2 races, even so far as to give up my pass if the other guy is deciding to cut into my line.. even though I've gotten level going into the corner. Didn't want to hold my position and wind up spinning on the grass or pushing back, as I'm the new guy lol and walking on egg shells. I've noticed guys aren't afraid to box you out though. Makes me wonder how that scenario would have played out if I were to hold my rightful position on the line. Would have looked a lot like the overtakes in that video

04: Rules Governing Car Contact:

A:
Contacts and collisions must be avoided at all costs.

B:
Pushing other cars in turns or pushing them off the track is strictly prohibited.

C:
Leaning on other cars is strictly prohibited in any situation.

D:
Some contact through a corner or through a pass may not be avoidable and may be deemed "incidental" should it not appear to affect the likely outcome of the section in question.

This is what our OLR has to say about car contact. I haven't watched the video of passes but that fact that it came from a touring car series is enough for me to assume that most of what they allow, especially in the closing laps, would not be allowed in SNAIL.

Not quite. 2. #1 and #4. #1 was probably a crowd pleaser, but from a racing standpoint, a bit ridiculous. Even some antics after the chequered flag.

Well got a ps4 today ready for the next step. I will get a new wheel if I have to next winter and the prices for games is stupid crazy

#2 was was the only pass in which an IR would not have been filed and my favorite. The pit pass was great but we can not pass in the pit. That type of racing reminds of many online racing rooms I have joined over the years. How many times has some guy stated, "rubbing is racing" as he knocks you off the track and passes. Thanks for the video.

$hells: I'm not sure what the issue is with the sheet, but I submitted at least 4 "claim sheets", maybe 5, in order to "get paid". It shows only 10. Is that correct?

Sambabus at Daytona Speedway? FT1 at GT Arena?

Seriously, we ran the BRZ GT300 the other night for the bathhurst test. Awesome car. That would be my pick. Tracks? Meh, don't care, just hope it's something that hasn't been raced on yet.

Really good reading guys. I knew this would get a racecraft discussion going. My view is that F1 has some of the best overtakes. I only put that video up after i went looking for BBC's top ten F1 overtakes from 2014 but ended up being bombarded with videos similar to the one I posted.

To paraphrase Alain Prost ,''Be brave enough not to take that risk.''

Buddy, want to try that in real English. There is an app for that.

Hint: You have a chance to propose one new Car and Track combo. Prize A winner cannot mix and match. He has to choose one proposed combo. What you have here will disqualify you.
