When I first started playing GT5 and even GT6 in the very beginning, I used the in car (1st person) view, exclusively. But soon switched to bumper cam after I started racing with real people. I found the in car view to limit line of sight too much and although I wanted the realistic point of view, it wasn't "fast". I have the look left, right, rear mapped to the G27 wheel, as well as my horn (@JLBowler). If I ever feel like I'm stuck in a slow groove, I'll switch to in car and run some laps, then switch back to bumper cam and often I feel faster.

Bumper cam with drivers list and race data up top. Map is always off and so are names on cars. Immersion is the name of the game while still knowing who I'm behind and who's behind me

I drive that way too. Buttons on the wheel, no names. The names on cars kinda bother me, actually, especially when there are a few cars around, it's a jumble of letters.

I started using driver view a few years ago, but switched to roof/hood view 2 years ago. The line of sight and blind spots are tough for the drivers view, but the roof view allows me to race close with other drivers really well, and it's much easier to aim for apexes as well. Sometimes in seasonals, I'll switch to in car view.

In P Cars, the in helmet view is intriguing. I doubt it would end up being a fast view for me, I'd likely stick to a bumper/roof cam for racing though.

GT6
Bumper cam with side view and rear view buttons mapped on steering wheel. (Even though we call it "bumper cam", I think it is more like "front on middle of grill or top of the hood" cam. Map is always on because I still spin of regularly and you need the map to see if you can safely re-enter the track.
PCars
I prefer cockpit view with angle at 65 and steering wheel hidden. Alternative hood cam on some tracks. Bumper cam is too low and make too many corners blind, roof view is too high. Mostly I prefer GT6 screen info, but the live gap to your fastest lap is probably the best telemetry indicator on PCars. It shows exactly where you lose or gain time.

Chase cam because I've been playing racing games for so long that the only way to know what the back of the car was doing 20 years ago was to see the back of the car and it's just a habit now. I don't need side indicators or look left or right buttons. I have look back mapped but rarely use it.

Agree with everything stated above. Also with the chase cam I find I can race side by side or in close quarters with less contact and more control and accuracy. Drafting and then pulling off a close clean pass is a small problem. Sometimes you bump the person in front of you. I am now getting in the habit to quickly change view to bumper or hood when drafting.

I use the chase cam , pretty much same reasons as bowler and sgeti. Early race games , that was the view and I just kept with it. I find it to be a great view for racing in tight quarters. Being able to see all four corners and a great deal of track around the car and ahead has a lot of advantages ,i think. "look back" button is programmed handily as well and all on-screen info is on

But by far the most unrealistic way to "drive" your car.

I would say all the game views are unrealistic , really

This is very true. Some are more sim than others, but nothing is like the real thing.

BTW, I just wanted to say how much better PCars cinematography is than gt6, as replays go. Reasonable zoom, I still miss the gt5 chase option, or was that an earlier version? Eh, whatever...

With everyone liking Project Cars so much I seriously need to get a PS4 soon. But they don't support Logitech so ugh.... there goes $800. That I don't have. I'll probably end up getting it with my birthday money. In November.

I would like to use the cockpit view if I had a triple screen setup. At least that would be like driving with a fixed head a neck position:). But that's not a feasible option for me

I've played in cockpit view on a 60" TV and it is big enough to make the view out the windows big enough. If that makes sense.

But by far the most unrealistic way to "drive" your car.

Because sitting in the middle of your car at driver's height with the entire front end invisible is so much more realistic than any other view. That's what "bumper cam" is.

Cockpit view would be the most realistic way to go if you had large triples and could set the field of view to mimic what you actually see from the seat of a car. This would require the screens to completely wrap around you and take up your entire field of vision. It might even take five screens to get the angles and coverage close to what you would really see and not have it distorted at the edges or too close to your head.

I don't even see promise with the VR headsets that are coming out because they don't appear to have any type of monitor on the side to occupy the user's full field of vision. It just blocks our the side and forces you into a smaller field of view.

In 3 days of PCars I feel like all I've done is experiment with camera settings. I've decided that I prefer cockpit @ 110 for karts and I'm leaning towards helmet @ 85 (max) for cars. Not as quick as bumper, but much more immersive. I really like the blur effect.

I use roof cam now ... I used the chase cam with the controller from GT1 to all the way to GT6 , Ive only recently (early in GT6) changed to roof cam since I got a wheel .. I've tried bumper cam , I just don't like it , I know I would be faster with it.
