I don't think there is a way to drive against your ghost in GTS with tire wear and fuel use turned on. This was also the case in GT6, and made it very difficult to really properly practice combos. The only place I have seen in GTS where you can drive any combo you want and have tire wear on is arcade mode - custom races, and there is no ghost when doing those. Very frustrating that they still have not made this possible.

Baby Steps.. baby steps! While that may be true, he is having trouble with car control, over breaking and general race craft. Even without the tire ware and fuel; chasing your own ghost is very beneficial on the 1st stages of learning to race.

BTW. I don't think anyone has pointed out, but the iRacing videos are also very very useful.

Whenever i raced in GT6 in Snail, for me to go faster i did more to follow what lines the faster driver in front of me were doing rather than my own ghost driver. Yes i would rely on the ghost driver for doing the licenses but for racing on track online i rely on the driver in front of who is faster and that is how i learned how to be faster more longer i raced in Snail in online lobbies.

If you figure out the BoP , the arcade mode custom race isn't too bad , can help with racecraft and overall learning the track while against competition, the AI in this game is pretty decent.
Really helps the GR4 group cause you are on SS, AI is on RH , set to professional, start mid pack work on things...

@Rallywagon @Tecticles Sorry for some reason I thought the G29 was belt driven but it's gears. My bad.
I was more specifically referencing the part where you said "if you have a g27" to his post saying he never had a wheel. Its all good though, I'm just pedantic like that.
As for racing ghosts. Racing yourself and better racers (can you load others ghosts at this point) is probably the best option. While you are your own worst enemy, yougotta know where your faults lie before you can adjust. Further, the best way to get better is to race against better.

@Tecticles

I was always on the slower end of the spectrum until i started saving my race replays and watching them back from the view of the faster guys. One guy i mimicked excessively was @LongbowX. He was so much faster than me and watching what he did and how he managed gears, controlled the rear on corner exit and "straightened" the track out with his racing line informed heavily how i race today. I'm still not "fast" per se, but i can hold my own pretty well against most.

To sum up. Identify someone you want to emulate and start studying.

Pedantic indeed lol. I should have said "If one has a G27..." but yea, no worries.

Oh so by the way I turn 29 today. Yay...

Happy Birthday!

Thank you, currently I'm less worried about being fast than consistent. I've changed my Input using the DS4 for the final time now and I'm significantly faster regularly. I still have issues with maintaining fast laps through the course of a race, once I can hit near the same lap times on every lap I will start worrying about carrying speed through sections for the fastest times. Hitting a turn correctly 5 times out of 6 still means a loss usually, and that is where my problems lie. I am working on it and would bet if I took the TT again with how I have improved my time would be at least 4 seconds faster.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

But to necessarily TOO MUCH better. That's what's great about a league like this. There's always somebody that's just a couple tenths out of reach, and that provides the "baby steps" to learn and get better. 👍

Being aware that some corners are simply set-ups for the following corners or straight helps me stay consistent.

I don't want to get into the whole Thrustmaster vs. Logitech discussion but Best Buy has the G29 on sale for $200 if you're interested.

I myself almost pulled the trigger since I've had no problems with my G27 over the last almost 7 years of use.

I'm going to call out @Lessen right now because his build log has me contemplating a new rig as well as perusing this site on an almost daily basis.
I bit the bullet on the Fanatec CSL and V3 pedal set yesterday....ughhhhh:banghead:
I will soon have a new G29 replacement after the center shaft started to really shake.
It will soon make the trip back to Logitech for repair or replacement.

The brake performance kit is valuable if you feel the need to fine tune the feel more than the preload screw allows.

Not able to practice tonight - wife going into hospital due to onset of pneumonia.
Hopefully will be there Sunday.

yea, I threw that in there.

I didn't spend much time on the stock PU (polyurethane) elastomers. Not because there was anything wrong with them, but because I had the performance kit and was kinda jacked to see what the difference would be. I'm a rather small dude (135 fully clothed), so It stands to reason my leg strength will be in the lower end if the spectrum. In stock form and zero preload it is quite soft with A LOT of throw, and that's coming from me. It was probably softer than my DD Civic Si with similar throw. I gradually moved it until I got it to 3 (I think 3 1/2 is max.?) and it felt pretty decent. I should probably preface all of this with the fact that I have the inverted version which by default has the damper on the brake pedal. Personally, I've had the damper set at 1 and I haven't moved or tested it otherwise after my elastomer changes. Anyways, back to the plastic bits... Moving the preload screw all the way back out for the kit as instructed I first tried a "medium" setup which was one 013 Red and one 013 Green. Right I out of the gate I pretty much knew this was too firm for me. Way more resistance than stock and significantly shorter throw (again, for me. A stronger leg can likely compress it further). That combo came out quickly. Next was "soft" setup; a pair of 013 Reds (Red softer than Green). This was much better for me and I spent a reasonable amount of time with it practicing and just getting used to driving with a wheel/pedals. After much consideration I came to the conclusion that this setup was a bit too linear for my taste. It wasn't the overall firmness, but more how much actual brake was resulting with a given range of brake pressures. Basically, I felt my braking was inconsistent. So I opted for something a bit different. this is actually off the supplied chart as far as firmness goes, but I went to one 012 Red and one 012 Green (012 slightly smaller dia. than the previous pieces). I got exactly what I was expecting out of this combo; similar overall firmness but a more progressive feel and the result on track showed immediately as I was driving the same car/track combo throughout the experiments. In the first 4 laps out I had my best consecutive 3 and the last was my PB at the time. That's my current setup.

I also opted to use the stiffer throttle spring. Just a personal preference thing really. My only other note is I religiously wear my karting shoes when I get in the rig. Maybe this will help give you some guidance as you dabble with your brake settings. Cheers!

Sorry to hear that Mr. Tex. I am also not going to be able to practice until Saturday. Best buy sale had no replacement wheels for my G29 so they replaced it with a Gift Card full credit. I am buying it through Amazon now.

Hope your wife recovers fast!
