I'm with Rob and Raw. Smaller grids would tighten up the skill gaps. Wouldnt it be cool to know literally anyone in your division has a shot at winning the night, rather than the usual 3 or so people?

Also the potential for sandbagging would greatly diminish since you would be racing people on the same skill level, and you wouldn't feel outclassed every Sunday night hoping you were in a lower division where winning a prize would be more likely.

Recruiting is super important. You should view every person that signs up for SNAIL as an equal to your skill set. The more people that join - the better the odds of having full grids on Sunday where anyone in any division has a shot at winning (which translates into an ultra competitive night of racing which I think we all hope for)

I sometimes wonder if people have jumped ship on SNAIL because they have never won a prize, or seldom do. Part of what makes SNAIL so special is the interactivity and the division winners getting to choose which combos we race. Its a sense of accomplishment perfoming well on Sunday and to win a prize. If people show up week in and week out with no shot of winning - I could maybe see some of them lose interest. This isnt like every other league out there where the combos/tracks are announced in advance by the league organizers. We get to choose what we race based on who does well - and thats a big attraction for some.

Disclaimer: I know not everyone cares about points or winning. They will show up every Sunday regardless of prizes or where they finish.

I tend to agree with the smaller group crowd, but barely.
SNAIL has always done a great job with the divisional splits and keeping the racing close. Right now I feel like we're just caught up in the numbers shuffle of available drivers. My skillset has improved racing with the big dogs in D2 but not to the point where I would consider myself competitive and that's where the barely agreeable side comes into it. I figured that more practice, patience, and timing will take care of my finishes and the driver relegations will eventually even the fields out. If the current availability of drivers is close enough, I vote to switch to the smaller groups and put a little more effort into helping on the recruitment side of things.

@JLBowler
I'm available to help out on the stewarding side of things again if needed.

Prize Update

Our prize C winner did not respond to the conversation or make his selection before the deadline to do so. This means that if you raced in D1 this week, you get to vote to freeze the Red Bull Jr. or Interlagos. Please vote by posting here, only vote once, and do not change your vote. There is no need to keep and post a running count of votes in the thread. If someone wants to know, they can read and count. Voting will close at 11:59 PM ET tonight or if a majority is reached sooner. At that time, @Kgffy will be clear to select the other half of the combo.

Man, the RB X-Junior is a fun car but on SS tires it's a lot less wayward with the steering. Is there any chance the BoD can find tweaks to the Gr. X tire formula to put it on SS tires? I remember they said it was so close that 1HP would make a difference. You can change numbers on the formula side to make things work but how much will that affect every other car on the border of a tire compound change? Just something to talk about in our two week downtime.

Freeze the car.

So I have yet to make my D2 debut, but I’m hesitant to do this month on the fears that if I do, down to D3 I go. I know someone here said attendance doesn’t mean much, but I don’t agree with that. I joined in mid-April and I was sent down to D2 (mostly due to my performance), but still. I think performance and attendance have a hand in promotion/regulation, therefore I won’t make my debut until next month.

I wouldnt wait if you are available all experience in SNAIL is beneficial. If you think your outclassed or too fast yes thatll be handled. You may be surprised though just how the night can go. I believe everyone in D2 has had a podium at some point each season.

And btw i dont think ive completed a sunday night in 3 weeks but still am glad to get in the races i do and havent been regulated.

In order to get to the correct division for your skills, there needs to be a body of work. Not showing up will just ensure that there is no body of work to base a divisional assignment upon. Not showing up will also not build up enough of a data set to make you eligible for prizes and will eventually get you removed from the active drivers list. Any movement between divisions is results based / need based and those movements are going to be more accurate the more an individual races.

You may be overthinking it.
Edit: 3 other posts including JLBowler before I refreshed!

That last vote gives us a winner. There are 8 drivers eligible to vote and four have voted to freeze the track. That assures at least a tie in votes and since the first vote cast is the tie-breaker and it was to freeze the track, we have a winner. The track will be frozen and @Kgffy is up to choose a car.

I vote to freeze the track.

For those of you that participate in the FIA races, I plan on having some practice rooms up for tonight's races (all times Eastern):

6:30-7:45 - Practice Gr.3 @ Kyoto Combined
8:00-8:45 - Nations Cup Race
8:45-10:00 - Practice Gr.4 @ Suzuka
10:10-11:00 - Manufacturers Cup Race

I start a new job next week and I made sure to always have Sunday night's available but Thursdays I left open since it's just practice night. If I'm not scheduled for a Thursday night shift I'll definitely be there but it's not 100% now. Just letting you guys know
