November 2018 Season - League Night #2

1. TOYOTA MR2 GT-S 1997 on SH Tires @ Autodrome Lago Maggiore - Center - 11:30 Fine Weather - (12 Laps)
2. JAGUAR E-TYPE COUPE 1961 on SM Tires @ Nürburgring GP - 20:30 Clear - (4 Laps)
3. PORSCHE 911 RSR 2017 on RH Tires @ Suzuka Circuit - 15:45 Fine Weather - (5 Laps)

Division 3 last night had a mishap. The Cadre reviewed the settings for the room and missed the lap count on the first combo,we ran 11 laps @AutodromoLago Maggiore-Center instead of 12.I do not know how this will affect the outcomes of last nights events.Apologies for dropping the ball Gentlemen.

This might have something to do with it :)

@SAMHAIN85 your time away from the game has reduced the gap between you and the rest of us.

It also could be that everyone is improving. Which makes SNAIL so great - an even battleground to not only improve your skills but to also improve racecraft. Youd be hard pressed to find anyone that has gotten "worse" after competing in SNAIL for a length of time.

I'll be putting in more practice for next week : )

Nah, man, you got it all wrong... we were just REALLY fast around that track.... ;)

I'm can vouch for the excellent racecraft practice. It's nice having more people who understand rules and strategy for overtaking and defending track position. but as far as speed, I'm too reliant on physical feel. I can't mentally make myself do something "videogame" crazy (though that's probably better for the long run so I don't actually go flying off a track)

@SAMHAIN85

You’re speed may not be what it was but you set the benchmark for racecraft in D1. On a night when (in my opinion) racecraft seemed to be thrown out the window, you were extremely patient and set up your passing attempts into logical passing zones. You cost yourself track position and time by being sportsmanlike but your great driving absolutely registered with me and gained my respect.

The MR2 combo I really didn’t see much of a difference with the paddle shifting vs the shifters.

Yes and no.
Once we're up to speed - not much difference, however getting up to speed is much faster in the shifter. Granted I didn't have a great start in P3, but by the time I got up to speed, you had gone around me and top 3 were already 1+ second clear of me.

On the Jaguar combo, even though we could redline like crazy, shifters were faster anytime we had to accelerate.

Theres a big difference especially off the line at the start. Have a look at @MikeGrove 's start of R2. 11th to 6th in just over 1 lap/1minute.

And thats not to take anything away from Mikes abilities, you still have to drive the car. But the shifter definitely has a big advantage in these combos that cancel out the "shift lag"

I will probably grab a shifter during the Black Friday sales, but I will also need to invest in a shifter attachment for my Playseat.
The things we do to gain an edge... and what makes SNAIL such a competitive league

Thanks Whitey.

Regarding the use of shifters, just be mindful, that a certain amount of skill is required to achieve optimal and consistent times. One missed upshift or downshift, can spell plenty of lost positions. The only gripe I have is that the game allows h pattern upshifts, and then allows you too paddle down shift. I would prefer to see it locked to one or the other as they do in Assetto Corsa. If your running h pattern shifter, that is the setting it locks and vice versa. On that note, GTS is very tough to get perfectly timed up and downshifts without missing a gear. Anyone using the shifter, may gain an advantage, but it does come with it's own risk. Kudos to the guys that have mastered it.
