Prize B:

Lets decide as a group where to send the
MAZDA RX-7 GT-X (FC) 1990 on SH Tires.

If you are a current SNAIL member you can vote on which track to send it to. If you missed last week's race you may still vote (maybe we'll see you this Sunday?)

Nominators dont get to vote

Post which track you vote for in this thread. Please dont post a tally of the votes. Bowler has quoted the nominees above but I'll do it again:

    • Kyoto Driving Park-Miyabi - Default
    • Nürburgring GP/F - 20:30
    • Tokyo - Central Outer Loop - 18:00
    • Brands Hatch GP - Default

Deadline for voting will be tomorrow at 6PM EST (3hrs before official practice begins) Tie-breaker is decided by whichever track was voted on first.

Whichever track has the most votes will be my selection.

Real or not could you do this?

Yes, given the proper circumstances.

Make sure you have the sound turned on when watching the video (mine was muted), and sound shows the driver clearly knows the road, when to hesitate and pause before punching it. If you have ever been on a rural European road, either as the driver or a passenger, this video won't seem that far fetched. I would rather be a passenger in this car than a passenger in some of the cars I ridden in.

Nah, Pretty irresponsible to do on public roads. That driver is putting innocent people at risk.

Not cool at all, and no, I would never even consider doing that.

This video has been sped up - so it's not realistic at all.
That being said even at regular speed it's incredibly irresponsible to include total unwilling strangers in your insanity.

Some people (not going to name names here...) think that because they can drive fast and are "good" drivers, that it's fun to drive your car fast on public roads every so often and it's not really a big deal.
IMO being a good driver on a public road means not getting into or causing avoidable accidents. Especially when the potential risk here isn't a fender bender - it's potentially life ending for total strangers that haven't signed a copy of your death wish.

Honestly imo people that drive like idiots like this on public roads are doing something drastically worse than drunk driving - at least drunk people can claim they weren't in a proper state of mind to make good decisions because of the alcohol. What excuse do you have for racing down a public road, losing control and killing a family of innocent people?

It's like playing a game of Russian roulette except you don't just shoot at yourself you also shoot into a crowd of people who have no idea what you're doing.

We as SIM drivers should know though that it doesn't matter how well you know the track - a tiny mistake can lead to a car losing control. In this case, what if road conditions were a little off, or one of the drivers being passed moved in any unpredictable way? The potential risk is so incredibly high here who what? A few online views and some adrenaline?

It's like that moron in Florida who got himself into a GTA style car chase/shootout for some YouTube views and was sentenced to 160 something years in prison.

Lmao, have you guys never passed someone on a two lane road? It's perfectly legal and please point out one time in the video there was an oncoming car when he passed.

And like Sean pointed out, the video is sped up. The guy wasn't even going fast IRL.

The driver obviously knows this road very well. So apart from the sketchy overtaking, I don't think it's that hard.

Really the only sketchy overtake was the 1st over the solid line.

Some people here sure are quick to play the "I'm better than that" card when I'm sure you've all done it at least once. Maybe try the "I'm older and wiser now" card, seems less preachy.

US yearly totals

  • 6 million – average number of car accidents every year.
  • 3 million people are injured every year in car accidents in America.
  • Around 2 million drivers experience permanent injuries every year from car accidents.
  • 40,000 people lose their lives every year due to major accidents while driving.
  • 40% of all deaths caused by car accidents involve alcohol.
  • 30% of car accident fatalities are attributed to speeding.
  • Reckless driving accounts for 33% of all deaths involving major car accidents.
thats 13,200 deaths per year , on average due to reckless driving

I didn't realise statistics had any bearing on what I said. Reread the last paragraph please.

Also, let's not forget age/sex demographics for reckless driving deaths when you're quoting statistics. Like I said, older and wiser.

For the most part I had no issue with how he was driving other than the first overtake (reckless) and the randomly veering over the solid line into oncoming to make his corner straighter.

We lose complete context though because of how it was sped up so it's really impossible to tell if he was being just another fast driver, or truly an idiot.

The stats are to defend anyone coming from a voice of reason or what you call “preachy”

Bottom line is that people have a responsibility when earning the privilege to drive.

Do you think the driver in the video is driving responsibly?

Your stats may be fine and dandy for US roadways, but the video is from elsewhere. Without knowing the country of origin of the video, I think the driver IS being responsible. He is slowing for corners, and not passing with oncoming traffic.

So are you saying you've never driven quickly on a public road, or that you're older and wiser now?

Compare Germany's fatality rates with their sections of speed limitless autobahn. People can drive fast, but they're properly trained. Unlike 98% of North America where, like Jam pointed out, this video didn't take place.

Bottom line is the U.S. won't see a decrease in these numbers until better training standards are in place or we're being shuttled around in driverless cars.

As for this particular video, it clearly wasn't exciting without being at least double speed, so no I don't believe he was being irresponsible. Let alone endangering people like you said earlier. Yes his first overtake was pretty stupid and could've been done seconds later once it was legal. The crossing of the center line was done on open stretches with a decent sight line, but for the actual corners he slowed down and stayed in his lane and never came close to an oncoming car.

I have read the post and would like to join .

@Spencer Perry

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!
Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join SNAIL Racing League:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You start a conversation and add @CoachMK21, @JLBowler, @nmcp1,@zer05ive ,@Rednose58,@MajorBlixem & @SAMHAIN85 as participants.

The conversation title should be "Request To Join".

2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing.

3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.
4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread. If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL
