This should give you an idea.

As someone who used the DS3/DS4 forever, I am so happy I made the switch to a wheel. The game is much more enjoyable for me, and I'd like to think it also made me quicker. I cant do an accurate test of that anymore since I haven't put a competitive lap down with the sticks in well over a year.

That's not to say that wheels are faster than controllers though. There are some guys running in the top FIA lobbies that use the DS4, Sean is competitive in D1 with it, and hell even Timlour uses motion steering and is also competitive in D1. I think the point is, no matter what kind of hardware some people use, they'll find a way to adapt and be fast with it.

I totally agree I was around a second faster on the motion controller but couldn't keep the tires on the car and times fell dramatically after a few laps but with the wheel the smoothness is there but I dropped from A to B Dr learning curve I guess but it's way more fun

Here are this week's cast.

Good luck everyone..

Personally, I’ll still be using my H-shifter. Honestly, I don’t use it to gain an advantage on the others, nor do I use it as a way of cheating. I like to use my H-shifter because it makes the game (at least for me) so much more entertaining, so much more engaging. That’s what I like when I play a videogame. Adding it up to my passion towards cars, it simply cannot get better for me. And, to be honest, it’s not like I gain a huuuuge advantage on the others, but I do have in mind that there are people out there who has an H-shifter for such purpose. My general opinion about this is as follows:
Enjoy the game to its maximum without willing to affect others.

You put a lot of pressure on me. I just was not able to handle it.... Great racing very clean, thanks for that, I know I was solwer but you allways respected my trace, as a gentlleman you are.
Thanks, and I'm not so sure you were any slower to be honest, I think it came down to which one of us made the turns cleaner.....some turns you pulled away from me, and some I was catching you. Either way it was some good racin'. Thanks again for posting the vid.

I like to follow this thread, and GTSport's clutch model has been a point of contention for me for quite some time. So I'm always entertained by the shiftgate debate. I agree that it really comes down to individual integrity on issues that can't be policed. But... If I were running a league and had admission of guilt by some racers. Well, there'd be disciplinary action taken. Just curious how that slips through the cracks. Oh well, certainly not my concern. I'll see myself back out. :sly:

Not to jump back on the subject, but the only idea I would have for the whole shiftergate, ban the use of h gate shifting during league races all together, and adapt a run at your own risk policy. If during a review of an ir, it is noticed that the throttle gauge disengages repetitively during straightline upshifts, an automatic unsportsmanlike penalty of 25 points deduction will be applied. Also, it should be implemented into the rules as a reportable offense. If someone suspects a driver using a shifter at launch or any part of the race creating an advantage, they can file on the suspected driver. If upon review, the above is noticed in the replay repetitively, the penalty could be applied. Not quite full proof, but would be enough of a deterrent that most drivers would probably forgo trying to use it. Using paddle shifters, there would be no reason to lift off the throttle during upshifts, however, in GTSport, you have to come off the throttle to execute an upshift. It is quite obvious while viewing a replay and would only need to see a few upshifts worth of footage to verify. Just my thought on the subject.
@JLBowler would be the best person to weigh on whether even this would be feasible.

not wanting to drag this out but in your logic lifting to shift can also be used durning corners. Getting into a gear to pull off the corner. Some of us down shift to help the car turn and then shift back up. Where we could be half throttle.

Maybe use this logic on race starts?

The focus is more on launches and straight away up-shifts specifically. Shifting with the h gate shifter is very obvious when looking for it. Downshifting into corners and up-shifting while part throttle in the corner would be just that. But on a straightaway, on acceleration, up-shifting using h-gate creates a noticeable difference in shift speed, closing rate, and is clearly visible on the HUD in a replay (throttle indicator should not drop during straight away full throttle paddle shifting). If said driver pulls away out of a corner and is shifting faster on the straight making a noticeable run away from a trailing driver, the trailing driver could file to have the stewards investigate and issue any necessary penalties. It basically would come down to peer to peer policing. If everyone in a division is allowing it to be used and/or abused, then the risk of penalty is minimal and may be worth it. But, if one driver feels disadvantaged, and decides to call it out, and a review shows an abuse, the risk obviously was then not worth it.

I want it to be known, I do not advocate for one or the other in regards to allowing or disallowing the hgate and clutch shifting during league races. Heck, I was part of the "cant beat em join em" crowd to stay competitive. But in the interest of eliminating any unfair advantages, this is the only angle I see that could work to re-establish parity since PD won't simply speed up the shifts to make this a non-issue. If GTSport implemented the hgate and clutch the way Assetto Corsa has by forcing you to choose one or the other before entering a track, or speed up the shifts of cars being shifted by paddles as stated above, I would say leave the choice up to the driver as there are advantages and disadvantages to both. However, that is not the case, and the use of the hgate for upshift and paddles for downshifts in GTSport has been exploited and used for advantage, not immersion.(Apologies to anyone who is running a good pace doing proper shifting and clutch techniques) Immersion would be proper upshifts, and heel/toe downshifts with the risks of missing gears if done wrong. This is where Snail, as a league, should try to peer to peer police the use of hgate shifting through the ir system, in the hopes of creating enough of a deterrant for anyone insisting on continued use. Leave the immersion for other lobby play, single player mode, or hot lapping....and if full immersion is what you're really after, purchase and/or fire up Assetto Corsa and row gears til your hearts content. Let's get the playing field leveled again as best as we can.

Thanks to the Stewards completing the March - 2019 season's incident reviews.
Thanks to the Data Specialists who completed the data for the season.
There is however a few items to go:

D2: March 31 race night data
Stewards: Penalty points for March 10 to be entered to data

I would like to Archive the data as soon as these are in.

Penalty points are entered for March 10. Didn't even realize I had missed that.

Another note. The BoD is discussing some things that may or may not be rolled out for the April season. Keep your eyes on the thread for any potential announcements.

Well, if I get a wheel, I WILL NOT get a shifter. Or if I do, I won’t use it in SNAIL. Last thing I need is more people complaining about me.

Not going to put a lengthy post. Just posing the question. Are we banning the use of H-Gate shifting in snail or no?

Ban H shifting? Time to take a perspective not discussed yet. With slippery slope theology, if wheel/pedal usage started to show a distinct advantage then we will be banning wheels/pedals next. It’s really sad that PD caters to the DS4 to the extent that it can be remotely competitive. I understand making DS4 compatible with GTS to get a flavor for driving/racing but by making it on par with wheel setups - PD poisons the simulation aspect. What I mean- PD has gravitated Gran Turismo towards an arcade game instead of racing simulator. It’s also too bad that SNAIL gets caught in the middle.

I am posting this here looking for more participants in the next season of endurance. If you don’t know currently we are running 2 races. 1 is the combo that is staying from Sunday’s and the other is a picked combo.

What is it about endurance that brings you each and every week?

What are your thoughts about picking combos yay, nah?

Do you enjoy the 2 race format more or miss the 90 minute races?

Do you find yourself more apt to running the race that is carried over to the next Sunday in SNAIL? If so would you find yourself running it weekly?

What are your thoughts on a “fixed” schedule?

Since most of our races consist of Gr.3 would you be interested in running this weekly on a fixed schedule BOP?

Please respond in the endurance thread.
