It would appear that one of the most used cars in the history of SNAIL, to my recollection, will be making a return in GT7.

IIRC, this car was used right at or more than 30 times in SNAIL when it was in GT6.

I remember racing the hell out of it in GT5 around 2012-2013 too. The combo 380RS and Deep Forest stayed a couple of weeks. Woah talk about a blast from the past.

EDIT: Found some photos of back in the day when I lived at my parents, was in college and single. I had so much time on my hands to take photos and post them on this thread after each night. Gotta say, for a 12 year old PS3 game, GT5 still looks pretty good today.

EDIT 2: thats not the 380RS but close enough 🤷‍♂️

For those of you that race with socks: what surface do you have on your pedals? Fanatec provides a rubber cover and grippy tape for the pedals

I don't recommend high grip surfaces on pedals for sim driving. I could type a large paper on this, but due to design it I find it advantageous to be able to easily adjust foot positioning, without having to come off the pedal. It's most important with braking, and indispensable if you are using three pedals and a shifter. I run stock g29 pedals and socks, and have run the same setup(g series pedals haven't changed much) for fifteen years.

In real life it is mostly about personal preference, but since conditions vary so much more(hopefully it's not raining in your sim room and gettin your pedals and feet wet) in real life; it can be beneficial to have a gripper surface on your race car. Personally, I have run factory pedal covers on all of my racecars.

Again, ergonomics and hardware are very personal, so experiment. Just don't do anything you can't undo until you're certain that's what you want.

Lol at your final statement…. So ever since I’ve had a rig, I’ve always used shoes. So when I upgraded to my Fanatec setup, I immediately applied the grippy tape to the pedals (that sandpaper material) since that’s what I preferred using with shoes.

Just recently, after talking to others here and realizing I’m in the minority as a shoe-wearer, I decided to just use socks and to my surprise, I liked it!

But I quickly realized that a grippy surface really doesn’t work with socks. Long story short, I’m gonna have to figure out how to remove this grippy tape from my pedals without compromising the nice bare metal surface. Hopefully it’s a simple process, and any glue left behind can be easily removed by some Goo-Gone spray.

Thanks for your input, I just want to make sure removing this tape is the right move before following through with it.

I only use socks in the colder months. 80% of the time I am barefoot. I just use the standard pedal covers. I have no idea how people drive with shoes in sim racing. When I did RL track days I would use the driving shoes which are basically thick socks with soles. It's all about maximum feel...and you really get zero feel with shoes on a sim rig (well...a budget priced sim rig).

Yeah I’ve realized the error of my ways haha it’s certainly easier to make more precise adjustments without shoes. Unfortunately, once I have this grippy tape off, I’ll no longer have any excuses as to why I’m 40 seconds behind the leader :(

My PS4 is not healthy and getting worse, trouble finding PS5 for reasonable $, and I’m ready to purchase wheel and pedals.

Think my best bet is wait tell I can buy PS5 directly from Sony for $400 then get wheel same time, guess I’ll order digital GT7 ps4 and from what I gather I can transfer everything too PS5 for $10 more.

And im aware of PS5 available $800-1,000 I’m not that desperate especially I just bought me a New mountain.

Thank the Fanatec overlords, the grippy tape come off hassle-free! Much easier than I anticipated

  3. Kakalaylay -------- voted to eliminate Round 2

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 3 - SUPER FORMULA DALLARA SF19 SUPER FORMULA / HONDA 2019 (RM) at Autódromo De Interlagos - 09:15 Clear (13 laps)
Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since @gatordaryl wins Prize A, he gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 2 - LAMBORGHINI DIABLO GT 2000 (RH) at Alsace - Village II - 19:30 Clear (7 laps)
This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since @Rob Brown gets Prize B, he has the option to freeze the car or the track, or he can give that option to the Prize C winner. If he gives the freeze away, then he gets to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @Nicktune so he gets whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it has been confirmed that you don't have any penalties. It's also recommended that you review the SNAIL combo history and other data on our car and track history so that you can get an idea how many times we've raced each car and track. Please remember that originality is always appreciated, so picking cars and/or tracks that we've never raced is a plus (but not required). What's more important is that you thoroughly test any combo that you are considering before making it your official selection. For example, any car you select must not hit its rev limiter at any point during a race (even in a draft).

IMPORTANT: When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting. For example, if you want to choose the Integra Type R as your car selection, post "Honda Integra Type R (DC2) '98". If you want to select Monza for your track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza". Being specific helps us to update the lineup accurately and also helps avoid any confusion among the drivers. Also, please be sure to list the HP and Weight (LBS) of any car you select. For track selections, include the time of day (e.g: 09:00 Clear) or else it will be left to default.

@gatordaryl @Rob Brown @Nicktune are all clear to make their selections and will be included in a conversation in the next few minutes. Note: If @Nicktune ends up with the freeze this week, he will be a repeat prize winner and the freeze will go up for a vote.

Sure Phlano, pick a THAT car and bail.
SNAIL membership will determine whose combo is worthy . . .
The membership has spoken; the winner is me and the weiner is Phlano! Wish you could have been there. I miss you buddy.

Of course, you’re one that could actually get something out of the new haptic feedback and may not find the PS5 before GT7 launch! You’ll never regret going to wheel/pedals though. May slow you for a week but not more!

Normally I take the easy out with chosing the freeze but I’m passing the freeze this gyration. @Nicktune

Probably more than a week for wheel acclimation :)

So many things the wheel communicates that the DS4 doesn’t. Some of them are difficult to get used to right away.

I enjoyed the Lambo combo more than any combo from this week :)

@Rob Brown great combo choice, finally a slower car exactly in my sweet spot. This should make for nice on track action.

@Kgffy you’ve been racing with a DS4 all that time, massive kudos. You won’t regret a wheel, it will take a little bit of getting used to but when you are, you will be faster no doubt. I just bought a Thrustmaster T300, compared to what I had a couple years ago, (logitech G27 / G920) it is a game changer. If you have the means, it is worth it over the T248 and the old new logitech.

Sign up for email alerts for Wal mart, best buy, target when they will have restock or if having too much trouble finding PS5, try for buying another PS4 but it will be well worth having PS5 just on loading times alone for the game.

With this choice we have a repeat prize winner this week.

If you raced in D1 this week, you get to vote to freeze the LAMBORGHINI DIABLO GT 2000 (RH) or Alsace - Village II - 19:30 Clear.

You only get one vote and it must be posted in this thread. You may not change your vote by editing your post. Deadline to vote will be 11:59 PM ET tonight (Tuesday) or once a majority is reached. Once voting is concluded, @Rob Brown will be up to choose the other half of the combo.

Perhaps you have confused me with the selection by gatordaryl? Unless of course, the Diablo’s 599hp is modest in your car collection

Hear ye D1 drivers: Choose wisely - “yours truly” is completing the combo. Afterall, I brought that fascinating combo to fruition :mischievous:
