Oh I know. The reason the race is still there is stupid.
I disagree.
Prestige is the name of the game. That's not something that is earned easily. There has to be something inherently special about an event for it to garner such respect. It doesn't have to be outstanding competition, beautiful location or a death toll the length of the track itself. Prestige is not a science and is rarely manufactured successfully. There is significant value in prestige and is not somerhing to be simply tossed aside. To do so would be to toss aside history.
I recently made a comment on Facebook concerning somebody's opinion of excessive nostalgia (concerning old racing videos vs. new racing tactics) and I'll stand by it... You'll know when society has truly lost its way when nostalgia is no longer relevant.
But that's just my 2 cents.
