funny thing is, i can criticize anything i want when ever i want, and you dont have to like it .
So long as it's within the remit of update 1.06, fire away. If it isn't, pick a thread (like the "Epic Crying" one) and fire away in there - we won't stop anyone from disliking anything.

But please remember, when doing so, that you agreed to GTPlanet's rules:
AUP
You will post all messages in English.
You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages. Decent grammar is expected at all times, including proper usage of capital letters.

One of the main problems i have with this GPS Visualizer, is that even if every car in the world gets it. You don't actually own every car in the world. You probably own up to 2-3 unless your a racer or collector. And so the ghosts of the GPS visualizer will only be fun on those said cars that you own, AND would only be fun for maybe a little bit.

I mean okay you own say a neon. And you go to i don't know... Daytona. Okay so you got a neon ghost on daytons in GT6. What are you going to do when your bored with that car/track. Go out and rent a Lamborghini and test drive it around a race track to see if your similar in the game? Let alone if you want to test on a track out of the country on street roads, like sarthe.

I just don't see much reply value in this EVEN IF, every car in world got it.

So we have -

*Off-topic
*Discussing "promises"
*Discussing Polyphony
*Discussing future updates
*No mention of 1.06
*"Positive" outlook
*No reprimand

Another example of how the "glass half full" is allowed to runneth over
You might want to look up the meaning of the word "moderation".

Amar may not be a moderator, but his post is one of moderation - it's one that should, effectively, stop arguments without the need of the heavy artillery of the moderation tools. Anyone who reads that post and still wants to argue is beyond this site's salvation. That's why I left it up.

Of course you could always report it if you feel it breaks the AUP rather than making a big public show of it. I notice you haven't.
why does this feel like im in a nazi camp in here? oh right... because mods are holier than thou and premium members are always right. got it. i forgot for just a second. please continue on !!
Apparently you've no idea what a Nazi camp was like if you consider being politely reminded that you agreed to our rules and are breaking them is quite similar.

They're not exactly difficult rules to follow and all we ask is that you abide by your own word - which isn't so much to ask either. If you felt differently you were free not to agree.

If you hate GT6 go here:

If you love GT6 go here:

If you have something other than GT6 to discuss, go here:

If you don't like the behaviour of other members, including staff members, use the 'Report' link (top right of all posts)

If you have something relevant to the actual content and possibilities of the forthcoming update, carry on.

Its pretty simple really and not unreasonable.

Honestly, I find the idea of this update intriguing. Whether or not anything else that is relevant to the completion of this game is going to be included is once again, not given. Guess we'll find out soon enough what this will actually bring to the game.

It seems that some people are completely going off-topic here.

Stay on topic in order to keep this thread open, we will all benefit from the peace and quiet as we wait for the upcoming update.

Ahh crap, there I go getting off topic too. Ugh.

Maybe it should be locked. I mean, everytime someone makes a thread about said update, it's pretty obvious there'll be arguments along with it.
That's a reason for locking down the entire site.

Arguments - or their friendlier cousins, discussions - are part of the life of a forum. We not really all that bothered who likes what and why, or who dislikes what and why, so long as it's done in the right way (without insults) and the right place.

Right here is the place for discussing v1.06, whether you hate what's in it or love it. If you hate or love that it doesn't contain something (yet), this isn't the right place. If you hate or love something else this isn't the right place.

Enough of our membership get this to make it worth keeping topic-specific discussion threads like this alive. Some people don't and want to carry their extreme love or hate from other, more appropriate threads into this one. If the staff don't act to stop this, the whole forum turns into a pitched battle between the usual suspects on both sides in every thread.

I don't see it as particularly unreasonable to expect a thread about v1.06's contents to remain so - and there have been a number of well constructed posts on both the like and dislike sides of the coin here that make the thread worthwhile. People clicking through from the news page can see sensible discussion and reason, with a little bit of muck-raking here and there. Good enough.

So the update is supposed to come on the 7th and yet until today information about it was posted on the Japanese website only. Are we sure this feature won't be limited to Japan as a test run for the time being?

That's a good point, they could very well limit the functionality to Japan, at least at first.

We do know however, that the Japanese announcement mentioned it would come with patch 1.06. Since the game is patched identically across the world, this means it's very likely we'll see *something*.

I guess the 1.06 update as such with whatever content, yes. I am wondering about the data logger/visualizer though: only Japanese tracks, supports only Japanese cars and was only announced in Japan.

That makes so much sense! The GPS thingy is only available to the Japanese Toyota GT86

Good question.

It's worth noting that, though the game version should be the same the world over, it doesn't necessarily mean that all functionality is the same the world over. We have a bit of precedence in the form of Photo Stream in GT5, which was contained within an update everyone got but only initially enabled in Japan/Asia versions.

So, as pessimistic about 1.06 and the gps visualizer as I have been... I just had a thought.

I was again trying to imagine, "who would use this feature." My thoughts then turned to "this can't be the first GPS device that allows data collection from a real race car, that can then be analyzed on a computer after the fact. So what's the big deal about this, why is PD pursuing it? What's the main difference between PD's GPS data collection system, and anyone else's?"

The only thing I could really come up with is, "well, PD's will have a shiny replay along with the actual useful (possibly) data.".....

Lightbulb:idea:

In the future, would it be possible to use this feature to record a full race, with a full field of cars, and then recreate it in GT???

Users could then watch the race, but instead of just passively watching like we do now, we would be able to control which car, which camera, etc, just like we can while watching a replay in GT.

I'll admit, I don't fully understand the nuances of this technology, so could someone with a better understanding determine if this would be possible or not? Or am I just daydreaming now?

Edit: just one more add on...if this were possible, it would tie in nicely with the now seemingly abandoned concept of GT TV...

As you can see in this thread, each region gets different updates (well, the last letter at least). So this could very well be an Asian only update. Which will suck...a lot...

This is the same thing I said Wed. and Thurs. The North American site only mentions Maintenance. No mention of an Update to the Game. I think there will be a lot more people upset on Mon. night Tues. morning when we don't get anything. I guess that I should ask the question, did all versions of GT5 get the same amount of updates? Did every version get to version 2.15 ( I think that's as far as It went for me) of GT5?

If we just praise PD, the franchise will never get better.
Gee... surprisingly, Gran Turismo wasn't napalmed every game from 1 to 4, and they improved. ;) And saying that things haven't improved with the move to PS3 games is purely personal opinion driven, because some things clearly are better.

So I don't agree with this argument at all, generally speaking in the sense of "better." Specifically including people's personal wishes is one thing, but even then, not everyone's lists will agree. I desperately want Race Mod and a Livery Editor, others don't care for either.

The GPS Visualizer seem to have all kinds of potential as discussed in this thread, beyond the watching of your best real life lap around Fuji in your rented Toyobaru or GT-R. Any technology which expands the potential of Gran Turismo with some kind of "edge effect," I'm all for. Because as technology advances, and PS4 capability gets further explored, who knows where it can lead? Ultimately to something like a Course Maker which can use a route you drive that you can then use to create and share a track in Gran Turismo. Maybe it can be used to teach B-Spec Bob with real world race car driver hot lap data. Maybe real life races can be recreated that we can join and compete in.

It is really cool that Lawndart has a similar app he created. But it would be relevant to me if I could plug it into a GT game, which won't be happening unless SONY should happen to fall in love with it.

Is this GPS doodad high on my list? No. But when PD gets something ready for release, I'm all for having it, even if it's a wallpaper maker. Yes, awful example, but it's been a long week. And look, you aren't going to get anything till it's ready. Maybe PD should be prioritizing things better. Maybe, but we don't know what's going on there.

We have two calendar worthy events coming up: Ayrton Senna content which was as good as promised, and E3. We'll know something about... something soon. :P

I didn't mean GT was not improved from ps2 to ps3, I mean it could be way better.
I belive GT has the potential to be almost unmatchable as a driving game, but they are wasting time and resources on secundary stuff.
If PD had just listened to their fans in the last 5 years, GT could be now such an epic masterpiece, as GT2 and GT4 in old times. Well, it's just how I see things.
About the next update, maybe it surprise us with something else.

I don't agree with this. Not even that, but It's on the line of ruining the fun for the people who... you know actually enjoy what they create.

The fans love the franchise as it is. Maybe have you thought that you've simply outgrown the support of this franchise?

In terms of a easy pick up and play racing "sim", GT is absolutely a wonderful game.
