Nobody knows.

But probably not. They'll deem the visualizer and telemetry "enough" probably throw in a GT86 seasonal. The most unexpected you might have the possibility at is a BMW Vision GT car.

They may or may not release the gps visualizer in other parts of the world because of the lack of ability to utilize it anywhere other than Japan. To me its a semi useless tool.

A thread of hope that we get another feature, but I have a good feeling that it would also have been advertised.

We'll all see around 1am cst Monday morning.

Temper you expectations people.
I for one go in expecting nothing, whereby even the tiny crumbs that fall from PDs table, like adding the consecutive log in bonus icon to the main menu makes me smile. Maybe, psychologically, Im coming to terms with PD having bad time management, PDs got time for corporate marketing, PD helping to design more tech that 0.05% of GT fans will use or maybe all of the above. As a GT Fan, Im use to dissapointment, ever since Kaz told Official Playstation Magazine in 1998 GT2 when it does eventually release would have day/night transition and weather.

It's called Stockholm Syndrome. I think in time everyone will come to enjoy it.

Muhuhahaha. :D:D

I didn't mean GT was not improved from ps2 to ps3, I mean it could be way better.
I belive GT has the potential to be almost unmatchable as a driving game, but they are wasting time and resources on secundary stuff.
If PD had just listened to their fans in the last 5 years, GT could be now such an epic masterpiece, as GT2 and GT4 in old times. Well, it's just how I see things.
Okay, fair enough, and I agree with this. But we can't rewrite history.

I will have to say though, that GT5 had a lot of secondary stuff in it, and it turned out fairly well. And not everyone agrees with what that "secondary stuff" is. Some didn't want the Course Maker in there.

GT6 still can be epical, it just depends on whether or not Kaz can focus his vision more precisely on motorsports, and what kinds of ingredients make a good racing game. And whether or not SONY has twisted Kaz's head so far to the PS4 that he finds it hard to look back to PS3.

That sexy 8GB of ram, 16X that of PS3 must be fulfilling Kaz's wildest fantasies.

Actually, is less than five. 3 GB are used by the OS.
Actually, if you recall the PS3 has a split pool of ram. Thats 256+256, the OS reserved nearly half of it, yet today the PS3 OS is less than 40MB of ram in usage. The PS4 reservation is NOT 3GB, but 2GB and after firmware updates etc, its safe to assume they will have 5-6GB of ram for games.
The Xbox One reserves 3GB of ram as the OS overlays is made up of 3 layers, 1GB per layer. Sonys PS4 OS is just a conservative reservation. it should be 1to 2 GB during this gen at most for OS functionality.

You said 6gb is available now and after firmware updates it'll be 5-6gb. Firmware doesn't get written to ram.

Is this something that has already been posted or something new?
Seems like this is new to us.

‘86’ Drivers Can Now Replay Circuit Runs at Home

Toyota City, Japan, April 2, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation will launch the “Sports Drive Logger” onboard telemetry recording device, an exciting new way to enjoy driving by fusing the thrill and adrenaline of track driving with the comfort and fun of home gaming. Designed specifically for the Toyota "86" sports car, the Sports Drive Logger will be released throughout Japan on June 2*1 with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 91,800 yen*2.

The logger collects data passing through the vehicle’s controller area network (CAN) and also positional data from its dedicated GPS, and formats the data for easy copying to USB memory. CAN data can include GPS data, accelerator pedal strokes, steering angles, brake operation signals, shift operation signals, engine speed and vehicle speed.

The first application compatible with the data is Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.’s racing game Gran Turismo 6*3*4 (GT6), a PlayStation®3*3 (PS3) exclusive. On April 2, a PS3 firmware update (version 1.06) will enable the input of driving data recorded at certain racing circuits into GT6’s GPS Visualizer to let users replay track runs and race against their own or their friends’ data.
Furthermore, by using the GPS Data Visualizer in conjunction with GT6’s GPS Data Logger, users will be able to compare their own driving data against those of professional drivers, enabling study and improvement of driving techniques by practicing in concert with model braking, acceleration techniques and racing lines.

Initially supported racing circuits are the Fuji Speedway International Racing Course, the Tsukuba Circuit 2000 Course, and the Suzuka Circuit International Racing Course, with additional circuits planned for the future.

Firmware reserves OS ram to run. eg: run in the background 24/7 when in use. it does use ram.

Currently, PS4 reserves 3GB of ram. 2 for OS and one for future potential use. In 3 years, Mark Cerny, PS4 lead system architect has stated a new API will be implemented to use GPGPU functionality with CPU-GPU compute and maximise the PS4 potential. Currently, according to devs like Guerilla Games GPGPU functionality is still not implemented.
When it is, and they are certain they will not reserve the extra ram, they will work to minimize ram usuage. They may even bring it down to 1,5GB OS ram usuage in the end, in which case games may have 6.5GB of ram to work with in the future.

In any case, sorry this went offtopic, hope we get the update 7 April and it has the features we want lol.

I decided not to buy GT6 before it launched because of how disappointed I was with GT5 (Still haven't bought it, going to wait for it to drop to a fiver or less), I knew it would be more of the same with GT6. I expected a backlash from angry fans for sure but my goodness I didn't expect to see so many of you angered. I hope PD learns from this, we are not sheep and we will turn our backs on the series we love if it fails to live up to its former greatness.

Interesting stuff, thanks.

WHy wouldn't they just make it so that upon turning on the device the boot sector is read, which contains firmware info, firmware info is obtained and then left in the rom where it's stored?
If firmware is checked during boot or game start up, why would it still need to be accessed during gameplay?(serious question)

Well, Im sure they need to hide the firmware behind the hypervisor and they also have it under lock and key by a secondary ARM Cpu. To top it all of, it isnt the firmware data itself in question, because that is actually stored on a seperate 256MB Samsung flash memorychip on the MB. Ive been told the current setup is what it is to prevent piracy. Remember, the PS3 was never hacked per se, but it was exploited by its USB boot sequence. Basically with PS3, of the 6 Spus in operation one was for security of the OS, they replicated this setup, yet rather than have a CPU work security of the OS that is stored on the HDD, they have the ARM CPU police the 256MB flash chip and so OS is then placed in ram.
Simple reason, to prevent piracy.
That, atleast, is what Ive been told.

Off topic: All the firmware I have ever written resides on it's own dedicated chip and has nothing to do with system ram.

On topic: Oh great, the new update not only requires that I own a $20000+ car AND live in Japan AND have access to one of three tracks used AND now it's a $900 upgrade to said $20000+ car! Yes, this is really useful to me

20K? I'm willing to be the car is probably 45k+ seeing as a regular FR-S/BR-Z here is 26-30k

Polyphony makes some really stupid choices sometimes. All this for a less than 1% use among GT6 players.

No it doesn't. @Famine's posts explain this quite well.
