Well, tried getting in but for some reason didn't let me. Strange because room wasn't full but insisted it was. Hopefully it will work next time. I think the last guy who entered locked the door behind him...

I had this happen to me the other night, just have to remake the room.

I see you guys are full, but in case the Full Room doesn't show JoeTruckV8 @ TnT-2000 will fell the void. I'll watch the tread in case of any sudden news appears. I've already been lapping Daytona for my Blancpain Daytona Rd so are BMW cars will be up to speed in case of a emergency ride opening up last min! 👍

I've added you to the reserve list. 👍

Hey, you can scratch me for next week... Have to work.

Darn it.

I think the list is updated and accurate, if I've missed anyone let me know.

After our practice races I'm a bit concerned about the standing start on the banking. Even starting in 2nd or 3rd gear the car will go sideways and fall down the track if you're not very careful and I don't want anyone's race ruined before we even get to turn 1. I think we should probably consider doing a rolling start so we can all get away cleanly and enjoy the race. I don't think we need to do a whole parade lap though. We could "go green" as we leave the infield and enter the banking (turn 6), this seems like a natural place to accelerate and the long run down the banking would hopefully create enough draft to keep us all bunched up coming around for lap 2. Another option would be to "go green" coming out of the bus-stop chicane and onto the final stretch of banking, it's another natural acceleration point and would give us another long stretch to draft the pack together.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble downloading and installing the 1.03 (PS3 reboots as soon as I confirm download and install). So, I may be out for the future. I'm really rather sick about it at the moment. I'm going to be looking for a way to download this update as soon as I can...

Lots of people are having issues but I think there is a workaround, and it was apparently even posted on gran-turismo.com.

Ok, thanks! I'm still going to do what I can to show up on Saturday, but I've now seen two different ways to update (one quick and one slow). I'm not too confident either will work.

Hopefully it works out, I haven't had a chance to download it yet but plan to after work. It seems like even thought it's a small patch they did address a few of the major concerns such as:
  • Wheel width no longer decreases when applying larger wheels.
  • In-car visibility improved on some models.
  • Handling on MR vehicles has improved.
  • While adjusting power or weight limits, displayed PP updates in real-time.

It's nice to see they're paying attention and promptly addressing some of the more serious issues, hopefully this is a good sign for the future. 👍

Also, just want to make sure this doesn't get overlooked:

It's a concern. I would do either do a full parade lap, or call it green right after turn one. Green after entering the banking or after the bus stop makes the first corner under green pretty dangerous.

I agree, lower T1 speeds will be less likely to result in contact.

I like the idea of a full parade lap, kinda gives everyone a lap to get settled down once the cars are rolling. I mean regardless of how we do the start people will need to be cautious entering the first turn its a long race.

My only issue with the rolling starts/parade laps is that it's always a bit vague about when we actually go green.....does everyone go when they cross the start/finish line (which would give the leaders an advantage) or does everyone go when the leaders get to the start/finish line (and how do the back markers know when the leaders get to start/finish)? Since I'm going to have to disable voice chat I won't be able to give an audio command to go green, I just want to make sure there's no confusion and nobody feels like they're being put at a disadvantage.

I think going green "after turn 1" wouldn't work well because where turn 1 begins/ends is kinda vague and it goes into a narrow bit with a kink which would probably be an issue. What about going green after the first hairpin (International Horseshoe, aka Turn 3, see below)? We could all approach it cleanly and slowly and then just naturally power out of the turn and begin the race, also giving us 3/4 of a lap to spread out a bit for Turn 1.

This would be my suggestion as well...
Go green out of turn 3.

Most commonly; when the polesitter crosses the s/f they throttle up, as does the whole field at that time. No passing until you cross the s/f line. Obviously, I'll adhere to whatever process is prescribed.

I agree but in the game it can be difficult to tell when the leaders cross s/f. But I guess it would be a lot easier to see this at Daytona since it's so wide open and easily visible. For the sake of simplicity we'll just do a full parade lap and go green when the leaders cross s/f.

Usually, you can hear the pack throttle up well enough. Getting left behind isn't an issue as the person behind you cannot pass you until you've crossed the s/f. It's a long race.

Ive been in races where this was used and it was never a problem. Basically just put down your beer and get on the throttle as soon as you see the car in front of you start to go. It might give the leaders a small advantage but its a long race.

I've only done a handful of rolling starts in online racing and none of them went very smoothly, I just want to be sure it doesn't have a negative effect on the race. I'm pretty sure doing a standing start on the banking would be a disaster though so I guess whatever we do it will be better than that. 👍 I'll just ask that everyone stay close during the parade lap, keep it at 75mph and don't weave around or change positions.

See, I don't like that plan one bit. That's why I always wear one of these when racing.

Just to be clear, we come out of the pits just after turn 2 correct, not before turn 1. I don't wanna get in the way more than I do already.

Good news, thanks to your help (links, etc), I was able to fix my patch issue for 1.03. Thanks a bunch. Bad news, I was informed by my events coordinator (or wife, if you prefer), that I would not be able to attend this weekend's race due to other obligations. It's her birthday weekend and, silly me, I thought we'd celebrate it on the day earlier in the week and I'd have the weekend to do what I wanted. This was not the case. So, I'll need to be scratched from this weekend. I will definitely keep my eyes open for the next event as I was really looking forward to this one. Sorry about the late notice and interruption of your track discussion. Have fun guys.

Good point.
This probably should be in the OP, with the path out of the pits in big fat RED line, and a threat of DQ to anyone who exits the pit right into turn one.

@Jackwagon, IMO what better bday gift than watching you take part in an epic race?? Too bad, we'll save a spot for you next time. 👍

@Torzilla and @dsgerbc, I swore I had a note in the OP about exiting the pits via the extra pit lane but I guess it didn't make it in there. I will update this, I ask that everyone exits the pits after turn 2 using the extra access road and DO NOT exit directly into turn 1.

Also, 80mph will be the speed limit for the parade lap, riding around in 3rd gear at about 7k RPM should achieve this easily. I will add all these notes to the OP and make another note of them on race day. Thanks guys.

@SagarisGTB, you've been officially promoted from reserve driver to active driver, hope you can make it!

Given that the sign-up was a while ago, might be useful to do a roll call with @ thrown to everybody registered/reserve just to remind people....

I planned on doing something similar to that today, super busy at work though. I'll try to get it done this evening. Thanks for the suggestion, I was going to send a group PM but your idea is better methinks.

Sorry guys, but I have an important meeting Sunday's morning, and the race would finish for me after midnight, so it's not sensible to take part on it. I hope a reserve driver will take the opportunity.

@MagicFerrari, sorry to hear that. This won't be my/our last race so feel free to follow me and check out any future events. 👍

ROBOT ROLL-CALL!! If you're going to be able to attend tomorrows Daytona race at 3pm EST/8pm GMT please chime in here so I know how many to plan for. Hopefully we can get at least 10-12 on track for some high-banked action. 👍

@BrandonW77 -
I'm certainly interested in running your Daytona race if you end up having room for another to fill out the grid.

Please go ahead and put me down as a reserve driver.

GTsail290 / GTsail9 / TBA

Off to buy a BMW and some SS tires......and book an over-night flight to Florida:)

I've stayed at a hotel on the beach in a previous year and they still send me flyers every year, so hopefully they will have a room for me and my pit-crew.

Thanks
