Very true indeed. Thing is though, whenever iv'e been searching for small scale cars on e-bay or just the internet in general, i know for a fact if i type in '1/64 scale', it's going to bring me results that are roughly around that scale. Only on very few occasions has it ever thrown up a 1/43 scale, (with the exception of if i'm looking for a particular car, and it just doesn't exist in 1/64 scale).

So i'm with R1600 on that. It really would be better/more appropriate if it was called the '1/64 scale model collectors thread'.

Though true, even cars slightly off (1:70) are generally considered 1:64, so...

I understand what both of you are saying. I prefer 'small scale' because it's a broad term and therefore encompasses everything we post here. 1/64 is also understood by collectors to have a broader meaning, but I personally never liked that. You can have 1/64 cars that aren't in 1/64 scale which bugs me. Things such as trucks can be in 1/100 scale and still fit in this thread and that's quite far from 1/100.

But I suppose it does come down to personal preference to an extent, and if you guys are in favor of 1/64 scale model collectors thread then I have no problem with the title being changed. 👍

And me as well, but like I said it's a general term to categorize all like sized cars under one specific category. As mentioned, if you go searching through eBay using their catetories, their main diecast sizes are 1:64, 1:43, 1:24 and 1:18.

Here's a great example of a manufacture saying their cars are 1:64 when they are far from it:

Anyone that has seen these Maisto cars knows they are more like 1:50 scale.

Edit: More Greenlight HP to look forward to. I will definitely get the Mustang, the Ford Custom I will have to see in person. If the edge on the blue paint is crap I will pass.

I hear ya. 👍

What bugs me about this whole thread name change thing, (though i still do welcome it if it appeases those who were unhappy with the original HW's + MB collectors thread name), is.. Where do we draw the line?

For a new comer to the thread, what's to stop them from posting small scale / 1/64 scale model houses, aircraft, trains etc etc. Part of me feels scale model thread is too lose a term... I think the original title (HW's and MBX collectors thread) kind of summed it up perfectly, although obviously there are different brands, i think new visitors to the thread would have pretty much got the feel of the thread instantly. I doubt very much, many would've have been upset..

Well, one could always add the word "cars" if you want to make that point clearer... But then again, is it really necessary? Anywho, my own opinion is that all brands deserve a place here, as long as they make small scale model cars. Even if the size differences may be uneven, they still follow more or less a similar pattern, so there shouldn't be much concern over that portion. And to be honest, that's more or less what I have to say about that.

I buy a bit of everything, with a bit more focus on stuff that's more readily available for me (i.e. Sikus and HWs), not only because I am not made of money (probably unlike some of the fine gentlemen here, haha) but also because I like to widen my range of model cars. As long as they are cars that I enjoy seeing, I'll buy them; that's my own personal "law" regarding this, because I am a car fan first and foremost. I may pay some attention to quality, but I'll worry more about it being a car that I know well or an unknown model that I haven't heard of (and therefore interesting as a buy for me) first.

That would be a solution as would've been: "Hotwheels, Matchbox and other brands, collectors thread" But you're right, none of this is necessary.

I'll leave it be. 👍

Quite, this solution is the best possible one, no need to make it even more complicated. 👍

So let's just sit back, and enjoy what we are meant to enjoy in the first place; cars that we like because they're certain cars and not because of brand allegiance. And hopefully see some of the "other brands" collectors come back (@a6m5? Please? I am open to seeing your 1/64 cars, and so should everybody else to be honest. Let us be open about things for a change...)

As per @Apok's request I've updated the title and OP accordingly - if there's anything you guys want doing please let me know. 👍

Or just get @Apok to hassle me until I've done it. :dopey:

Thanks, Josh.
Boy, we've come a long way, haven't we?
Great job, and high-five.

This thread has been the mother of threads.
This thread gave birth to both the Diorama and Customizing threads - there were diorama photos and discussions in here, and customizing photos and discussions galore in here, before we decided to go into detail on those subjects in their own threads.
And now we have a 'Mattel'-specific thread also born from it.
We have to all admit that in the world of die-cast toys, Mattel rules big - very, very big, and to various sorts of collectors - from the schoolboy who has only $5.00 a week to spend on it to collectors who can blow $72,000 on a single specimen.
That gives it a special mystique that sets it firmly apart from yon regular 'die-cast model cars' manufacturer.
So it was time to build it and hopefully they will come in the same way they came to the customizing and diorama threads.
And we may even see a return of the core 'Hot Wheelers' who were in here and drifted away if they are given a space undisturbed by a thousand other manufacturers. While, yes, mention of the Panda was made, there were many other collectors here who collected only or predominantly Mattel products and who also faded away as soon as the Kyoshos and Tomicas took over the thread.
I was also to blame for this.
In fact when I first came in and posted Majorettes I had a tiff with Jason misunderstanding him when he said 'No Majorettes here'. (He meant 'no Majorettes for sale' where he lived.)
I've posted Tomicas, JLs, Jadas by the score, Bburago, Maisto, Moto Max, New Ray . . and many others.
I've given posters like a6m5, AOS and Kakashi, who consistently post superior quality and unique models via absolutely superb photography 'likes' whenever I'm in the thread and see such posts to encourage them to keep posting such beautiful work.
I was all for posting any miniature scale die-cast model car in here from any brand - and I've done so prolifically - from micro-machines to the top of the scale in miniatures 1:43s.

Obviously, since many members post 1:43s in the 'Scale Model Thread' if one was into 1:43s that thread would be a better place to be. That thread is a General Scale Model thread and covers it all from cars to ships, tanks, and planes - except for non-scale models like HWs.

Small True-to-Scale Die-cast Model Cars are a world of their own.
Because technology has now overtaken almost every industry, the miniature model car industry took a leap in its production technology.
The 'HW-type' cars produced by the model-makers now are phenomenal in their detail and scaling.
But they still aint 'HWs'.
HWs are a different type of ' *koff scale model.
Having the two together, as well as having the discussion labelled 'Hotwheels' made it a miasma of Hot Wheel collectors wading through galleries of exquisite miniature scale-model cars that made their HWs look shabby, or eager miniature model car enthusiasts having to put up with a schoolboy's collection of the same old Hot Wheels posted a dozen times by others in the past.

But, everybody needs a space to express themselves comfortably, and so the 'Mattel' thread for ' Mattel' freaks - and I am one, and have been since I held my first Lesney - has been born.
This doesn't mean the thread must be on the top of page one of the Rumble Strip everyday. It is a 'hobby' thread.
If one particular 'hobby' thread is what is on top of page one of the Rumble Strip everyday we have a problems far deeper than we can imagine - it means someone lives in that thread 24/7, and keeps bumping it.

I think it will grow unobstrusively as more Mattel-based collectors come out of the woodwork, and realise they don't have to 'compete' with the likes of Tomica, Kyosho, etc, who are not even in the same league.
The OP in the Mattel Thread is also quite extensive: there are many collector activities detailed in there - not just creating a gallery of models.

We must regard the evolution of this thread - the Miniature Scale Model thread positively, not negatively.
It is now a full blown Small Scale Model thread.
To me that includes any model from micros to 1:43s. (One should compare a 1:43 to a 1:18 to realise that it does fall into the 'miniature' slot - as well as edging in to the 'large-scale' slot.)
And until you inform me otherwise, Josh, since we've posted everything from Mad Propz to tanks in here previously, I will continue to post any and all brands of my miniature scale models in here (including my more expensive Hot Wheels - especially if the package is legally branded as 1:64 (etc) but when it comes to talking Hot Wheels tracks, videos, Larry Wood, el Segundo, etc, I'll do it in detail in a separate thread and not in a consumer thread that reels by a page a day. Too much information gets buried that way. :)

So . . . on to the new era. The thread now covers all makes of miniature models, and until the OP informs me otherwise, I shall continue to contribute such gems as I acquire.

It's the only way to get things done.

I have to remember who is the 'real' boss of this thread.

I had an excuse! I was doing my homework!

...at 1 am.

Same excuse you've given me over the years for not being able to race me Online. After challenging me, too.:mischievous:

Darn, I didn't know that Bburago even made 1/64 scale cars until I looked at some of the recent posts. Interesting, but wow; I'm surprised at how overpriced they are. I mean, the quality looks kinda along the same line as Maistos; and I can easily find Maistos at a dollar tree. Anyway yeah, I only thought that they made 1/43 or 1/18 scale cars until now.

Funny enough, I own a few 1/43 Bburagos. Though, mainly because my parents bought me a couple and I was able to find them at a dollar store.

Anyway, I recently collected a few new hotwheels including a BMW M4 and Aston Martin V12 Vantage finally. I'll post them in a bit. :D

EDIT: Alright, here they are and they have less blur than my last set of pictures. :D

I like the use of "Small". Sounds a lot more friendlier than "1:64". Yeah, we're moving into 1:43 territory too, but most of the GTP dudes who who collect 1:43s are in the other thread and most of them don't have an interest for 1:64s. Some of y'all may have noticed I was posting stuff in that thread too lately.

I think we're safe for now until more new people show up and post the bigger things. We'll just have to scoot them over before it goes into a "what the heck is the point of having two 1:43 threads" debate.

Phew!

I'm glad everything has settled down here and things have gone back to 'normal'. :)

Great to see the cars making a comeback - especially the premium brands (I'll never say no to HWs :D ) but I would also like to see a heck of a lot more of the stuff that AOS, Kakashi, a6m5, and so on were posting in here. Some of these manufacturers are unknown to us and only come to light when these guys show the way - we think they make only the bigger cars, but they are all fast joining the bandwagon of miniature cars, too.

@Daniel008
What make is that Renault? Infact, is it a Renault or am i mistaken?

[EDIT]

Nevermind. Norev Renault R8 ;).

Looks good. 👍

No Renault. That thing is a Simca. @AOS- has it, the bugger.

Well, in the case or Norev, they have been making 1:64 cars since the 70s, they were called Mini Jets:

But as you say, they are incredibly difficult to come by in America, as I don't think they were ever officially imported here. I came across one in a flea market years ago, one of these:

t's a Bertone Trapeze concept car. It remains the only vintage Norev in my collection, I was very surprised to find it here.

a6 is gone sadly.

Scale model motorbikes, eh? Interesting.

Now now, don't jump at me, I am not condoning the posting of bike pictures around here. I'm just saying it's a nice change of scenery for once.

Those bikes were posted many times before in here. Long before you got here. Thought you'd like to see them. ;)

What brand do they belong to, if you don't mind me asking?

*checks bikes, turns them over, fiddles, peers, shakes head, rolls eyes, sneezes . .

I dunno. Says 'Chinese'.

Ah, it's a repost of an older post, then. Well, I'm not the biggest bike fan in the world, but the models themselves are nice. Especially the Ninja, it just has that 1980's vibe, which I like.

Eh, that's good enough. They're probably Maistos or something like that, built in China... They aren't rip-offs, that much I can tell.

Here's more of my models that you haven't seen - boats, planes, tanks, fantasy vehicles, and yes, lots and lots of bikes - not all of which have been posted here yet . . ..

I'll see what I can do to perk your interest. ;)

Well, you aren't short on variety, I can tell. But I'm mostly a car man, so to perk my interest all you really need to do is to post an interesting and/or nice car that I haven't heard of, and I'm game. ;)
