This is one bad 🤬 mutiquote, and the thing about the shoehorn; that just made my day!
That was nothing. It's when Ben has twenty pictures posted, but I want to quote only one, now that's a 🤬

Who designed the other one-off Hot Wheel? It's probably one of their designers?

Yes, it was a gift from their team, they asked what my current fav HW car qas and I said zelix, the man who accompanied us said he desined it, he then gave me the 1:43 prototype of the car...

Hot Wheels or any other die-cast company seriously needs to make one of these. Even if me and the whole seven other people in the world who actually appreciate these buy them. Believe me, we will buy them all which would theoretically justify the company to make them. I just found out about this car today, and I instantly knew I had to own one in some form or another someday.

It is a Honda Accord Aerodeck for those who don't know.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAH

Yeh, sure. Sorry, I had to. Fortunately, it will be easier for you to own one in real life than to grab one in die-cast form. I'm sure some japanese manufacturer does one of these absolutely irrelevant cars as much as they do every other absolutely irrelevant car that has come out of Japan.

Ah, so we are talking about the old stuff. I didn't even know what he meant exactly by redlines. I have some "Walmart Exclusive" redline finished cars, but I got the feeling he meant something different.

Redline cars are the first cars released by hot wheels and up until 1977.

EDIT: Duh, sorry. The cars featured redline tires, thus the nickname. Go to the Wiki article to learn more:

Just got my package from Racegrooves! (From his last official giveaway) It took a while, but was special enough. :D

Apologies for the very blurry picture... :dunce:

First is the 2007 Collector's Convention '67 Camaro. Says 1 of 3000.
Second of course is the Super T-Hunt Ferrari 599XX.

I just threw up a lot of jelly when I saw those red Carrera GTs. I also need some damn rubber tires to do wheel swaps but don't know which cars I should take them off of.

There were plenty. God, I wish I did international shipping.

:P

I do wish Hot Wheels made those custom rubber tires/wheels things widely available. I do like a lot of the work posted on the 'custom' thread. 👍

That is pretty damn cool. Sorry, Cano. This story just one-upped your autograph. j/k

Looks like what you said in the first line there is correct though. They were the early releases until '77, and they did have red lines on the tires. The tie to Deora concept explained on the wiki page you linked was interesting. I always wondered about that. 👍

Isn't that the youtube video guy, the dude with funky voice? Sweet cars. I am jealous!
Ugh, I wish I didn't look at those links. Now, I really want that 956. Good thing, the paypal account is empty at the moment.
So many cars I would love to have on that page. 99% of them costing way more than I'm prepared to spend on hot wheels though(or Tomicas lol).

Indeed it is, though I don't think of it as the funky voice. Actually more like the voice of Cleveland from Family Guy/Cleveland Show. Sometimes at least...

Anywho, interesting section from the wiki's Hot Wheels page:
Hot Wheels/Collectors
Through the years, Hot Wheels cars have been collected mostly by children, but in the last ten years[vague] there has been an increase in the number of adult collectors. Mattel estimates that 41 million children grew up playing with the toys, the average collector has over 1,550 cars, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have an average of 41 cars.

Most believe the collecting craze started with the Treasure Hunts in 1995. Mike Strauss has been widely hailed as the father of Hot Wheels collecting; he has organized two collectors' events each year in some form since 1986. The first event was the Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Convention, normally held each year in the fall. The convention occurred in various locations around the country until 2001, when the first Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals was put together. Since then, the Conventions are held each year in southern California. The Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals rotate among cities outside of California during the spring. Strauss has also published the quarterly Hot Wheels Newsletter since 1986 and was one of the first to unite collectors all over the world. He also writes the Tomart's Guide To Hot Wheels, a book listing history, car descriptions and values, which is used by almost every collector to learn more about the hobby and their collection.

In 2001, Mattel saw how much collecting was affecting their sales and put together HotWheelsCollectors.com as an online way to unite collectors by offering limited edition cars, information about upcoming releases and events, as well as chat and trade boards. Each year, they sell memberships to the Redline Club, which gives members the opportunity to order additional limited edition cars, as well as access to areas of the site with information such as sneak previews of new cars.

There are hundreds, probably thousands, of web pages dedicated to Hot Wheels collecting. People are collecting everything from only new castings to only Redlines and everything in between. For the most part it is a relatively inexpensive hobby, when compared with coin collecting, stamp collecting or Barbie collecting, with mainline cars costing about $1 (USD) at retail. The price has not changed much in almost 40 years, although in real terms the models have dropped significantly in price. After the cars are no longer available at retail the cost can vary significantly. A common car may sell for less than retail, while some of the more difficult cars can sell for many hundred or even thousands of dollars. The highest price paid for a Hot Wheels car was $72,000 in 2000 for a Volkswagen Beach Bomb, a VW microbus with a pair of surfboards poking out the rear window. This version was a prototype of which only 25 are known to exist. The model was introduced into the Hot Wheels range for 1969 with a significantly modified body design, widened to enable it to pass through the Hot Wheels power booster link

Edit: "the average collector has over 1,550 cars, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have an average of 41 cars."

What do you guys think? I have absolutely no clue as to how many cars I own.

I have a recorded 774 cars. This number includes other brands like Matchbox, Majorette, Maisto and some unknowns, but excludes same-color duplicates (in their cards) and so on..

I did a rough count the other day and in one year of collecting, I've accumulated 182 cars. That's not counting the remains of my childhood collection, which is probably 100+.

I'm gonna have to do a rough count myself, but I'm guessing probably way more than goat, but not nearly as many as AOS. I'll let you guys know! :D

I have a lot of cars:

About 250 accelerators/ hw35

200-ish redlines

47 1:18 cars

146- corvettes in 1:24 by franklin mint (I have an obsesson with corvettes

100-ish super T-hunts/ convention cars

2- one off prototypes (witch im sure you guys now know about)!

About 200 assorted (regular) off the shelf cars I thought were cool.

And the prototype of the Nissan blue bird from '09 (also from the people at hwc)

I was wondering, does anyone else think that the hw35/ accelerators series was pretty cool?

I think thats been my favorite hw stuff for a while now, (hence why I requested blue accelerators wheels on my make a wish car)

If I exclude about the 50 or so cars I had since I was a kid, I've collected about 720 cars since I actually started Mid 2011.

Best part of it all. I have like another 100 coming in soon.

I'm back . . . . . ;)

Anywho, interesting section from the wiki's Hot Wheels page (Pink VW RLBB)

You could understand why I about fell off my chair when I saw what looked like it sitting in the middle of that clump of models. To have someone who actually had his dream of designing a HW come true come in here set me up for it.

Edit: "the average collector has over 1,550 cars, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have an average of 41 cars."

Good Question - I would estimate my collection to be around 2000+ (since last count) which includes all my cars, 1/18s to 1/100s, as well as my Lego models, 3D puzzle cars, pull-back racers, R/C cars, wooden cars, and programable computerized mini stunt cars.
While I had been collecting on and off throughout my childhood, and teenage years, marriage got in the way of collecting, though I would buy cars for my kids - one of them who still collects, though he sold all his HWs for peanuts and now only concentrates on exotic 1/18s. The other kids of mine are into Virtual reality; and model cars don't really cut it when competing with Minecraft or Halo.
I held on to my precious personal collection, which was around 200+ before I started to devote time and money to make it a hobby again, which was from about six or seven years ago. I think I gain about 200+ cars a year now - not much, but enough to keep me happy during the limited time I have with them.

There are many other reasons I collect for, of course, and we always get around to that discussion - but since joining this Forum (actually the MAIN reason I joined to post - or otherwise I used to just lurk the GT5 Forums) and rubbing up against the likes of DiabolicalWyvern, R1600, Cano, Ben and so on - I have developed a greater interest in the Investment, and Customisation side of the Hobby - and I find myself buying the odd car as an investment and stowing it away for when I return to eBay fulltime - 30 or 40 years from now maybe, when I'm eighty and in a rocker in front of my 'puter wheeling and dealing while gnashing my dentures.💡

H
YAY!!! Postie just knocked at the door, i have my Polistil Porsche 928 turbo. :D

oooooooooo I want that. I want pics at least.

now all i need is to find another reasonably priced one so i can do a custom... the yellow interior and wheels have to go.

Yeah, they grow on trees. I'd deffinitely do one up given I found it in a customizable state. Read: trashed. I wouldn't touch one of those if it was in decent condition.

Edit: I ordered this tonight for $8.88. I recommend it. REALLY wanted a silver one(my favorite stock Porsche, all-time), but for nine bucks, I'm willing to settle here.

NOOOOOOOOOO DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!
WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO????

You don't want that car with those freaking horrible wheels!!!!

You want this:

Sorry AM, but you REALLY screwed up big-time, specially for the price, my God. You should have asked first. Sorry, your car is horrible because it has the worse wheels ever.

Yeah, absolutely. That story's got to be the best one posted here yet.

Oh, I said sorry because I hit "submit" by accident before finishing the post. I know all that stuff by memory, but I'm lazy anough to instead link you to Wikipedia lol. General culture, my friend.

I *think* I may have hit the 4,000 car mark quite some time ago, and I'm now approaching the 5,000 car mark REALLY quickly. I really need to ponder on this, you know.

Or maybe I don't.

Hmmmmm, I may ill check the display cabinet in the morning and ill be posting pixtures of the other one-off and the hw35 cars in the morning, right now, im off to bed; its 12:20pm here!

I recon I'm in the area of 1,300 - 1,700, but buying has slowed in the past year or so, I bought everyone out of their good stuff at the flea market a while back. :(

Cano - Yikes. That is serious. It's this thread, too, that's the problem. As well as eBay. I'll never get on eBay. For now anyway. It's an insidious, life-sucking, monstrous . . . okay, I'll stop before the words start getting scatological. I would never stop browsing and buying if I sat down to eBay.

But, Cano, seriously - you are also professionally involved with this - I mean you buy and sell, etc . . . maybe one day you'll have some permanent Hobby shop set up somewhere and I'll come by Mexico with a wad of cash . . .

Well, I had to buy more tubs for cars from Walmart, so I did a quick reorganization of the inventory. I'm really surprised by the accelation of the members' collection growing, just last few years. I think that really shows us how fast this hobby is growing, and as explained in the wiki page, by the general price staying around a dollar for all these years, the price of these little cars have indeed effectively gone down. When you consider the slow economy, also the accessibility of these things(grocery stores, department stores, online, etc.), I think the growth is a no-brainer, and will only continue this trend. It's looking good for you, Harry.

My rough count is over 300, but probably not quite 400. I also have loose cars though, which I toss into this medium tin-can. I'm guessing there's probably around forty in there, so grand total of probably right around, or just over 400! Most of them I accumulated since I started buying these for my nephew back in '09-ish?
NOOOOOOOOOO DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!

Cano, you get the 🤬 out of here with that 🤬, those are the Tomica wheels I grew up with & love!

Edit:

Harry - Hell yes, this thread. Had I never found this thread, I may have bought maybe around 20 Hot Wheels. I've always wanted to collect diecasts, but they are too big, and too expensive. I do love eBay & Toy Peddler for some of the hard-to-find cars of yesteryear + Super THs I feel I have to have. :dopey:

I've been watching an eBay auction on one of the BRE Datsun 510's. Ended up selling for $26.
And this is one of those cars I ended up giving into scalpers on eBay. I think I paid about $7 total? I'd kill for deal like that again. I really want one to take out of packaging. :(

Tried out 2 new flashlights I grabbed from work... I think I'm going to stick with the white LEDs in the van pic. Makes me think of a Car Convention Atmosphere.

It's looking good for you, Harry.

Yay! I'll be able to afford a tombstone after all.
Seriously, though - in another thirty years a lot would have changed. Even all those guns you have will be outdated; we'll have sonic and/or laser weaponry by then. No need to worry about muzzle velocity. :dopey:
As for gas-guzzling, tail-finned, smoke-belching, boxy cars . . . what a quaint idea.
Future cars will look like eggs. Clean, silent, seed-carrying pods. HW won't have many variations.

......XsnipX......so grand total of probably right around, or just over 400!

Ah! Quality instead of quantity, eh? ;)

Why did he leave the number plate undone? Stolen car?

Never seen a Maisto T-Bird that colour. Is that a Maisto?
Also, Andy, don't forget the White Balance setting on your camera; another way of filtering photons.

In fact, I really started seriously sucking it up when I got in touch with the Mexico Club. I've learned a lot from those guys and getting to know people that are as crazy as you but have 15,000 cars is kinda inspiring lol.

And yes E-Bay is a monster made of pure evil that eats babys.

And no, never a set-up shop. Taxes. Internet, baby!

Get the hell away. You cannot like those supermarket cart-wheels.

Harry - Guns are like with any weapons. They never go completely obsolete!

Cano - Seriously, those wheels are the "minicar"(Japanese for 'hot wheels') wheels to me. When I was a kid, they all had that. Of course, they were all Tomicas.
