BTW I wrote a long discourse on scalpers and how consumers are to blame for their actions in the previous post. I think I've wrote about it before, but it's a neat read, legacyMACHJNE.
Legacy: How much for the car?
Seller: Ten dolla.
Legacy: mm.. how about three?
Seller: Nuuuhoooooooooo. I can't do three dollar- you buy for three dollar today, tomorrow I lose home!
Legacy: Well give me a deal on the NSX man, I don't wanna pay ten dollars for it.
Seller: Okay let me think about it. One second...........
Hokai. You look like a good man. I give you best price: Nine-fifty.
Sadly, only a few very highly sought after. However, (I think) that was because those had smaller numbers made making it scarce, not because it was a First Editions. PR5 purple Diablo or PR5 purple 911 GT1-98 are a few I can name off the top of my head that are sought after. The 911 wasn't even an FE actually.
But highly-sought castings aside, I've run into a couple variations which had no value on it. The FE Jaguar D-Type had 3 wheel variations, all of which ended up being sold for the same amount, I've only got 2 of the 3 since I don't like the 5-dots. There there's the FE '63 T-Bird with a red car on the card which is worth the same amount as the regular... despite being a variant, it still didn't retain any value.
Sure, I sometime make money on eBay, but when you see another collector, same store, in need........ do the right thing.

Depends on variations too. Back when I first started collecting, Mattel liked to do TONS of variations on new releases, especially in 1998 when there were something like 150 First Editions. Color variations, wheels, packaging, etc, etc.
