Release date: July 2014.

Well thanks guys! I have a few of them in my room aswell! I´ll start and collect as soon as i go shopping, been a long time since i last payed attention to the Hot Wheels Collection, i had lots of them when i was a kid :D! I´ll basically collect Hot Wheels and Majorette, since they´re the cheapest and easier to find, but I like the matchboxes aswell and i´ll try to find a few... It´s just bad that there are no Tommica in my country, or at least in my city.

There is a latest version from Hotwheels.
I have a few already in my collection. They could be worth a bit of money.

Speaking of my collection, I normally post what I recently acquire in this thread, but I need to get off my butt and post what I already have. I'm going to do that shortly. :)

Welcome to the thread, @swynder. Its always nice to see others come here. If you're like me, look forward to spending a lot of money, then regretting it, then being glad that you did.

STORAGE (Cont.)

The Cardboard Connection:https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threa...ollectors-thread.118323/page-889#post-9599620

The Move to Plastic:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...ollectors-thread.118323/page-907#post-9643814

Combining Cardboard and Plastic:

We last left off while looking at this - a mass of cars at the base of the plastic box (that we purchased for the painful price of around $15.00) which can be found at most Department or 'Super'stores (Think Walmart, Target, etc, if you're on this side of the pond.)
It measure eighteen inches by forty. (18" X 40".)

Hotwheels move.
Any instability and they will start to roll.
This is what they're made to do and they will do it even in the package. You can use one to measure even imperceptible inclines - in essence they are all working levels (as in the tool -the spirit level, but without the bubbles. :) )
So, obviously, when one has a huge mass of cars together and you start to incline the surface, or waltz around in ecstasy with your box of cars, they are going to roll and bang against each other.
This particular plastic tray has wheels (so it rolls,) and has handles (so it can be lifted easily.) Always be gentle with the handling of a massed amount of cars, and keep the base packed fairly tight so there isn't too much room to roll around.
Alternatively, you can separate the base cars into subsets and their own boxes which will stabilise and protect them further.
Keep in mind so far that we're trying to look at the least expensive way of storing our cars, while providing both protection for them and accessibility to us.
These cars are mostly mainlines, even the older ones or more obscure (read 'rare' :D ) are not HTF off the pegs (and procure if you can pay the final price.) They are also parts of the collection that exist for 'playability' - which means all sorts of handling - customising, photography, racing, diorama modelling, and so on.

When you are piling cars one atop another don't forget to factor in even weight distribution.
Laying a sheet of paper on all the cars and placing another layer atop that isn't going to work; messy, not enough protection, and chaotic accessibility.
Placing subsets in boxes distributes the weight evenly and also makes for great portability when it comes to getting those stars out and making them shine.

These plastic trays stack one atop each other - in fact the large plastic tray we were looking at all this while was stacked atop another. So - two sets of subsets in this lot.

You can roll them together easily, but avoid lifting them without help - they can be heavy with all that die-cast metal in there (don't be fooled by the fact that they'e 'toys'.)
When gravity gets hold of the entire thing together, you're fighting a losing battle and Mother Earth will break your back as easily as she can create a tsunami. Maybe even easily. :scared:
So don't flirt with her, her name is Disaster.
Enough warning on that - so, to move on:

All these boxes can be moved around easily, and give ample protection and significant relief from dust:

Study the pics at length and this should spur your own imagination in formulating similar systems that work to give you this sort of protection for your cars as well as immensely quick accessibility.
There are boxes within boxes in there. Kind of - like people, eh?

But what about the more expensive cars, you ask?
Baby steps, baby steps . . . if you can afford more expensive cars, then you must have a little left over to spend on more plastic:

Will get into that next time.

Happy hunting, buddies - and yeah, you, yes - you, over there - the Lonely Hunter, too.

Nice cars - especially all the 206s. You may notice yourself that the pics are a bit blurred - maybe you'll have to work on those camera angles - and there are many to the art. 👍
Obviously, the cars in the attic must be very much older - Cano is going to be happy.

Here's one of my older cars - metal/metal mainline. An '83 casting, this teal variation was released in '97.

You can't find stuff like this car on a peg unless it's in a 'seconds' store (rarely), clearance outlet (also rare) or hobby store that deals in older cars. That makes online searching the only option to get old cars like this (especially in the package.) That also makes them fairly expensive to acquire - postage usually inflates the price.
It's a good feeling when you can pick up an older car, in the package, cheap (at its usual retail) right off the peg.
Doesn't happen often.

The cars pictured below are just a few years old. Probably some still on the pegs - plus, cars like these have continuous production runs - there is no limit for awhile, or production cut off to make room in the market for the 'next years' series - like HW does with its mainlines.
So they're not exactly 'rare'. Stores still bring them in - and there are plenty available online.
Cheapest off the peg in the store, though.

I know i have some kinda new ones aswell there when my nethew came to my house and he was younger... Anyway, i´ll try to post the ones who interest me the most and the preetiest tomorrow! :)

STORAGE (Cont.)

One thing I've learned to do to prevent cars from rolling is to place them sideways. When you have no plans on stacking them, you can fit more cars this way. Plus, it gets kind of fun trying to find a car that will fit that last spot making the fit tight enough they don't shift around that easily.

That Camaro looks clean. The one I have is a mess.

Good storage is a must if you are going to keep that just-opened shine looking good. But this particular car was never raced, only photographed and then lovingly placed back in a plastic case. Okay - I took it to work once - and looked at it lovingly all through my break. Yeah, love galore; me and my cars.
Some cars don't have a permit to be roughed up. The only reason it's out of the package is that I bought a second one - and that is safely stored away from light, heat, and moisture! :dopey:
Some of my older cars - especially the ones that were built during HWs better eras - are treated like they cost a lot of money.
Which they do - if you go looking for them online to replace a car you lost.

So in case I lose this one, I have another in the package.
