Yep that is true. đź‘Ť Vehicles like the Express Lane, Radio Flyer Wagon, Hot Seat and the Red Baron tend to interest me alot as well.
I have two First Edition packages of the Radio Flyer and one opened. I don't have a single Red Baron, which annoys me since I'll never find one on the pegs now - it'll have to be online. Or I find a trade.
I buy extras with the intention of putting them out on the market one day, or I trade with buddies IRL.
My other Sharkruisers are in organized boxes in my basement, but I am just too lazy to get them.
Quite honestly when I go through my boxes, I tend to stop and admire everything I have collected in the past decade, so much, it takes me
FOREVER just find to find one vehicle.
I tend to be heavily attached to everything I buy.
This happens to me, too; I might take my box of Mustangs out to do some photography or diorama set-ups, and then I'll just sit at the table going though every Mustang in the box and checking them out and sometimes I'll leave the box, having excited myself enough, and go play GT5. Or 6.
Kinda like porn, isn't it?
Sometimes it doesn't even get to that point - under the Mustangs will be some Plymouths that catch my eye, and if I take that box to just have a quick look at it, suddenly I'm faced with a hundred shiny muscle cars staring at me all smiley and shiny from the box beneath the Plymouths, and then . . . see where this is going?
Basically Gollum with the Ring - but lots, and lots, and lots of Rings. Precious.
I will admit I do find it amusing to have Hot Wheels submerged under water like that but in a way I find it to be a bit wasteful. Like buying a Hot Wheel and then never opening it, I just can't stand to leave it there, I got to play with it!
Submersible products for aquariums are very expensive, believe me (being an aquarist is another one of my hobbies
- ever since I could grasp a net and wade into a lake - and have been at it for quite some time, and have many friends with the same hobby - paying a couple of dollars for a few HWs is nothing compared to the $6.00 at the minimum you'll pay for a few inches of plastic fern - or for that matter the $10.00 you'll pay for a clump of cabomba.
12 inches of cured driftwood can set you back $30.00; I always make my own logs from driftwood I gather at the lakeshore.)
So we always look around for suitable stuff to dress up our tanks and give the fish something to mosey around. HWs, and in fact more so MBX, is a source of that. Who knew, eh?
Yep I sure do collect them.
I have a lot I could list including a blue Hummer H2 with surfboards, I used to call it "The Ultimate Beach Vehicle"!
Deara II has been a favorite since I was a kid.
If you really want to make a beach diorama, start with these
:
I love those Action Pack diorama sets - they're good sets to build further environments around - and I caught the one you posted in the Diorama thread, too.
Who knows one day - I'll just blow a few hundred dollars out of my PayPal.
For now - because HW never makes everything to the same scale (
a6m5 placed a great post in here demonstrating how well Tomica scales its models across the various models so you can combine them together - or the replicas from Kyosho (which are actually scale models) demonstrate that) the HW models never go together, and can throw off the proportions when used together.
Take an HW bus and place it next to a regular street car - and you'll see. Nothing's to proportion, or scale. These aren't scale models - these are baseline models good enough for kids - but for the purpose of dioramas, one has to be careful using those pre-made Action Pack sets, and have to incorporate them judiciously. This is why I make most of my own stuff.
In terms of collectibility and value - I'm sure those Action Packs can go for a lot - too expensive for fish-tanks!
Though, maybe a shark with one of those people in its teeth would sure make an interesting tableau for the resident anabantoids.
That one with the jet engines is one I wish I had gotten when it was available.
That green one with the spoiler brings back childhood memories.
That white one looks fabulous!
It should be a life guard vehicle instead of a fire department vehicle.
I kind of dig that Majorette as well.
