I've been holding out on getting that because of those two open wheeled cars in middle. :indiff:

Quite possible that HW may be ahead of the time - and maybe those cars will be 'normal' about 25 years from now. Or earlier.

Whatever may be - you can be assured that that pack will be of some value to collectors of one kind or another 25 years from now.
And HTF.

Much harder to find, and very much more wanted than the replicas churned out today.
That's 'collectibility'.

I think there's also a 3 pack version. I've actually not looked at either from a collector standpoint, just personal. That's odd for me because usually its collecting, personal, customizing, investing in that order when it comes to Hot Wheels.

That actually says a lot. We all collect for different reasons - and that gives what we collect very different (and personal) values.

I found an online price guide that I use for investing (Hall's Guide), but the values the guide says are nothing compared to my personal ones. As long as I'm alive, I'll always be buying diecast cars of varying sizes for one reason or another.

Yes, I agree - the guide values are nothing when the 'want' factor kicks in. I know people who collect rocks.

Market value, of course, fluctuates according to supply and demand.
If it is hard to find on the market (internet, exhibition sales, private ads, etc) then that drives the price up - if sufficient people want it.

What makes people want something, again, can also depends on trends. When the Indy 500 is in the news or is 'hot', then collectibles connected with that event are in demand, and the prices go up. This is when those who are 'investors' (people who buy low and sell high) can make a killing.

Certainly. Reminds me of the red Honda EF. At one point on the guide, which was shortly after it came out, the car was listed for $35. Then after what seemed like a year, the value went down to $4. But still, personal value trumped guide value. That EF was so popular and that made it VHTF.

The world of collecting something is very dependent on other collectors. Like NASCAR racing at a superspeedway at 200 mph, its controlled chaos, yet there is no control whatsoever.

That last bit did me in.

Yes, it's all about how much people want it at the time, how much scalpers clean the pegs, and eventually how many actually survive the test of time.

I had no idea how else to phrase it. But, that's why I go out on treasure hunts (pun intended) as much as I can.

Here´s a few of them i found on a box today.

A Shelby Cobra 427 and the early 2000´s Ford Shelby Cobra Concept.

Value guides are probably one of the worst places to look since values will fluctuate frequently. Best thing you can do to get a true value is to look at sold listings on eBay. What people are actually paying for them, is what they are actually worth.

Last one of these I will be purchasing for a while.

@swynder: I like them all. That Chaparral 2D actually looks quite cool. :)

I am slowly shifting over to using sold listings on eBay for my values. The Mustang is simply beautiful. :)

Wat? :odd: Um, I didn't pre-order one of those. All I've got on order currently are the 260Z, Beret 1600 & the Bluebird (Nissan service version). :embarrassed:
Oops. Never mind! :dunce:
How much for this? I just saw on eBay, $100+
Don't tell anybody, but I listed it in two different sites. For now, listed as a set of gas station + tank truck. They each cost approximately $70, so I have them listed at $140(approx. 10% higher on eBay due to fee).

Listing on: TTP eBay

That Camaro looks nice. I have/had one of those Datsun´s and a Civic like that one in white, i just can´t figure out where...

Keep an eye out on that black Skyline for with/without roll cage. Same deal as the RX-7.

On my way to see Godzilla stopped at Wal-Mart and they finally got their J case bin. Either I was beaten to it or it's another case of the "employee scalpers from hell". Thought I got away from that moving to a smaller town, guess I was wrong.

I went out to get a train video and stopped at a dollar store and a drugstore afterward. I didn't find any HWs that I purchased, but the drugstore did have some 2009-2014 mainline HWs. :indiff:

I also got a new '68 Camaro, but that's another thread. ;)

That's cool! :) I got the Thailand version, hoping to find that one soon. I am also wanting to make a very light yellow one like what my uncle has. Man, I love these 3 packs! :)

Me too. I'm really glad I finally found the Cyclone, but I'm yet to find this Challenger:

I can't wait to see the yellow one you build. :D

Good grabs on the Mini and Datsun. Shame you didn't get the gray one. A recent listing ended at over $15!

Thanks, haven't seen the gray one.

The camaro turned out better than the images suggested. Not the best version, no, but for free, I can't complain!
