Sorry I guess I just don't see the problem. I collect them for the cars, as long as they look good I could care less what the scale is. It's just a number printed on the packaging I throw away or molded into the base I'll never look at.

Store things from the other day. No Moon Eyes Beetle sightings though, boo to that.

They are still in L.A. At least it hasn't left the continent. :D

Yet anyway.......:P

This was a product of a tough choice. It was either an '80s Z/28, this car, or an AW premium '69 Firebird.
I have three of those Camaros. They are
I'm debating opening my SVO Mustang. Tell me what you guys think. :)
All three of my Camaros are opened. :mischievous:
it's 2014 and manufacturing costs for packaging something this small and high volume is negligible and easily varied.
I wouldn't know if you are just guessing, or have a decent estimate on the figures, but the cost increase doesn't stop at just the packaging. They also have to change how they are cased, shipped & stocked. It affects everyone, down to even the retailers. IMO, $1 price tag does matter. If Mattel didn't care, surely the retailers care how much these one dollar cars are costing them in real estate(pegs, shelves for various sizes) & wages.

For the record, I do agree that Mattel could note the scale on the card, or on the base. That would be nice. :)
Yet anyway.......:P
Too soon. I like your Civic. They did a decent job on the tampo.

If you occasionally buy cars from HWC, this email I just received from them may be of interest to you:

"Your 2014 Red Line Club memberships will be extended into 2015 until all 2014 items have been made available, which we anticipate to happen by the end of June 2015. In other words, you get about six months of membership at no additional cost.
  1. All those mouth-watering 2014 items we’ve been sneaking to you? We’ll start to offer those toward the end of 2014 and through the first half of 2015. (And yes, there will still be a Rewards car, too.) Our aim is to seriously reduce backorder time.
  2. We expect to be able to offer 2015 RLC memberships in summer of 2015. We’ve seen some early concepts of what the design team has planned for the 2015 Club and it looks amazing. The 2015 Club will run from the summer of 2015 through the summer of 2016 (12 months), so the club will still run on a yearly basis.
  3. As an added “thank you” for your patience, we’ll award an extra 10 Rewards points to Chrome level members and an extra 5 Rewards points to Classic level members. Reward points will be issued to all 2014 Red Line Club members who are active members in good standing as of Sunday June 29th at 11:59pm. Your rewards account will be updated by the end of July."
In the email, it's also explained that the delays/backorders were caused by the changes & updates to their manufacturing process, also production facilities.

No, I bought it at that price! Couldn't find any other good offers on the table, so I just bought it for value's sake!

Yolo bid:

$50. Very very rare made-in-Mexico Hot Wheels Show Hoss II. Not my actual car in the pic, but it looks the same as mine is minty-minty.

Why? Because I had one already in much worse of a shape that cost me a buck or so at a flea market, but that I knew that I could sell for the same $50 the minty one cost me. And indeed I did.

Now, @a6m5 will tell us about a certain HW pick up that cost him... how much again, so I can laugh a bit yet again?

For all those non-collectors who think Hot Wheels are just a toy, its cars like that that can prove them wrong. Awesome, actually this is an understatement, awesome find! 👍

I don't know what you are talking about. I don't spend over five dollars for a toy car! Buwahahahaha!

P.S. These (name)tag things don't work half the time.

Wow. I really wanted that car; searching for one of those for a while! Missed my chance though... :(

Anyone interested in selling me a Ferrari F40 (any maker, 1/64 scale)?

And for those that want a Nissan R91CP, here's a great deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-64-KYOSHO...36426?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item19efaae3aa

Directed at me I assume. Probably more of a collector than you, but no matter how you look at them the mainline $1 Hot Wheels are really just toys.

Its only directed at those who don't collect. You collect, so that isn't aimed at you, or anyone else who happens to be a collector. :)

I own one, but I don't really know what series it's from. I don't even know what car it is, but hopefully with some research I can find what car it is and when it was made.

Buttcakes.

I found several Mooneyes Beetles, but not a single white Fiesta. :grumpy:

I almost didn't notice the Fiesta too. It was on the front of one of the pegs on the very bottom row, only caught it in the corner of my eye as I was getting ready to walk away. Score. :D

And my Yolo purchase. Probably paid too much for it but whatever, no regrets at all.

They only work if you tag them before hitting the reply button. If you edit your post afterwards, the person you tag won't get a alert. Same goes for quoting posts too. ;)

I don't think I clarified it very well. When I mentioned scales, I was referring to the physical size of the castings themselves.

So as for that comment about Mattel's "approach to the game", what I meant was that they don't go "Big fire engine casting should be 3.5 inches in length, these tiny Civics should be 2.(no jokes plz lol)" They make them all similarly sized, regardless of how big, or small the vehicle may be in real life.

As for the "$1 car" point, at least to me, it makes total sense that they can't afford to make various sizes of cards, blisters, and especially castings if they want to stay in business(ie healthy profit). According to Jason & Cano, they could barely do enough to keep the correct wheels on these things. :P

My apologies, i understand what you're saying, but i'm not very good at putting my thoughts into words.

My point is that it would cost them nothing to print the scale on the chassis or package, and although i don't expect HW's to make everything to scale, it would be awesome if they were to make all of their real car lines to scale, (with exception of fantasy cars, rigs and trucks etc), i doubt it would make any difference to the end cost if they were to do such a thing, as nothing would exceed the current packaging (probably have to drop it down to 1/70 scale or there abouts, to accommodate some of the longer cars).

[EDIT]

I honestly don't see why it matters really. Why is it so important to know the scale?

Mattel is always cost cutting, especially lately. Putting money into things to make their scale "correct" is probably the last thing on their mind.

As @Robin. mentioned in a previous post, it would be nice to be able to display them in their correct scale.
I guess it just comes down to personal preference, it's like me not giving two 🤬 about a variation.. where'as others do, so i do understand where you're coming from.

To each their own, i guess.

My top three most expensive single car purchases:

3) $70, shipped. Hot Wheels 100% R32 Skyline GT-R

2) $73-ish, shipped. Tomica Limited Vintage Neo - Tomica Skyline Super Silhouette(Early '83)

1) $85, shipped. Cano's favorite: Hot Wheels RLC/Real Riders '83 Chevy Silverado

I know, I know. They are not really heavy-hitters, but most of the cars I'm interested in generally tops out before reaching $100(and that's a good thing). There is one car I've been looking at lately that exceeds the $100 barrier, and I believe I also commented looong time ago that I'd never consider buying this particular car. We'll see!
And my Yolo purchase. Probably paid too much for it but whatever, no regrets at all.
I remember that set. Better pics.

And I would totally agree with that. Like Jason, I don't see how it would be necessary, but I would agree that it would make a nice compromise. :)
