ToshiCongrats on joining the club. đź‘Ť I would guess that the 6 sec vs. 0.5 second difference you noted is the PAL/NTSC difference -- the PAL people get 8 extra seconds. (And yes, us NTSC people are bitter about it!) Check to see if the video had a 115 or 123 second countdown...
My NTSC version definitely has the 123 second countdown. I should have it memorized, I've seen it so many times. I don't really feel bitter now since I beat the Mission. I recorded the Mission and I'm going to savor it a few times. I just honestly can't imagine beating that Mission without grass shortcuts. I even had to slow up at times in my winning run just to avoid bumping a car in my way. You even have to know when those cars are going to give berth to let you by if you catch them at the wrong times (or take to the grass if possible). When I was looking at the PAL version videos something did seem screwed up as to when and where they were passing some of the opponent cars. I couldn't believe how they could make up that much time over certain sections even by cutting grass. One video I watched (out of three) the dude spent almost as much time on the grass as he did on pavement with almost no speed penalty. That blew me away. No way you could drive a real car like that so it's not a true simulation. Truthfully, in retrospect, Mission 34 was the most challenging race for me in GT4 and I'm going to go back and improve my time just for the smug satisfaction of cheating all to hell. The One Lap of Nurb with the Pace car was way easier even though I had to stay on the pavement at all times.
