I might give the 1000 miles a go but I want to do it with a Muscle car without overkilling the field is it possible ? I thought about a '64 GTO on N tires.

I won't A-Spec the whole championship maybe just the Nordschleife.

Nah, you don't need N tires. Try doing it with S1s, but make sure the Cobra shows up! :mischievous:

On the other hand, perhaps N tires would be fine, but anything less than the Jag E-Type as competition, and that might be overkill. But I'm not sure...haven't tried it myself.

I've done this once on my old GT4 save, and now that I'm on a new one, I'm going to do it again. I just need to decide which Alfa I want to do it in, my Spider or my GTA. The GTA is faster, but the Spider is the rare car in GT4 that actually sounds a lot like the real thing, which is to say glorious.

Also, you can't call yourself a true GT fan until you've done 1000 Miles and either one of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I did Le Mans in one uninterrupted 24 hour block with three friends and a case of Guinness Extra. It was, hands down, the best gaming experience of my life.

Yes! I think I noted that. It's one of the 4-cylinder cars that doesn't sound like yet another Miata or Civic sample.

Wish I could do something like this. :guilty: Truth is, I have one friend currently who likes racing games but he SUCKS at Gran Turismo!! :D He's better at very arcade-ish games like Mario Kart (at which I suck, lol). So if I were to include him in a 24-hour fest at the 'Ring, I'd probably wind up crying or yelling at him or something! :yuck:

It's more than that, it's the rare car in GT4 that has an engine that sounds like an engine, and not a hair dryer with gas. I'm so glad that if any car sounds the way it should, it's one with an Alfa twincam.

For some reason I got very tempted to run the 1000 miles again today but didn't. Took my Sunday nap instead.

I still want to do it again later this week though.

I'm definitely going to do it in the Spider, and since the key to not losing your mind in long races is to not dominate, I'll be running it stock, save for a semi-racing exhaust, which I'm using solely because it makes a great sounding car sound even better, and since I'm going to be listening to it for a LONG time, it's pretty much mandatory.

There is one thing that's scaring me, though. The prize car is the Giulia Sprint Speciale, which means I'm likely to do it again pretty much immediately in my new car, with the camera set to exterior view, just so I can have a reason to spend an abnormally long time staring at one of the sexiest rear ends in the history of cars.

I was thinking of running a C2 'Vette again against a Jag and a 300SL.

I might try a '69 Z/28 again though, I gave up on it before because of the sound PD gave it. Sounds like a clogged garbage disposal.

The only thing worse than how terrible the sounds they gave pretty much every V8-powered American cars is the way they made the DB9 sound the way an electric toothbrush does while it's in your mouth.

Reading through this thread has made me realise that I missed out in GT4 by not running this event properly. I quickly assumed this event was a dull, time consuming, slow-fest, and I let Bob do all the work without taking a second glance at it.

However, now I'm loosing interest in Prologue and it's not looking like I'll get to play GT5 anytime soon, I'm in the mood for some endurance racing. :) I'll look to set up my PS2 and give this a go in the next week or so (I've got work I need to finish before :ouch:)

Reading all this makes me think I'm missing out because my ps2 wouldn't play gt4.

Just finished the license tests again this Sunday and this thread makes me want to race the 1000 miles again, so I was wondering: Using a muscle car ( like Tempest GTO or Camaro SS '69 ) with modified tranny (increasing top speed) would be too easy? I'll try to start the 1000 miles on the wednesday.

My opinion is it would not be too easy, especially the GTO. Make sure the Cobra shows up, though.. ;)

You'll see what I mean. The GTO is too much like a boat; can't handle those faster turns at Nurburgring and Sarthe. Horrendous brakes & understeer, too. Down the long straights, the GTO doesn't really get as much of a speed advantage you might think, but this depends on how much power you're using of course.

The Camaro? I'm betting 1,000 Miles! can be done with a stock 4-on-the-floor with easier success, but I've never tried it myself.

The tempest is rather slow, so it could be some sort of challenge. However, it is my belief that a 300SL and E-type will destroy it, and it may have trouble with a Corvette.

I've only driven the GTO in the Professional-level historic races against the Buick Special and Cobra (at the same time!). The Nurburgring race is only one lap I think but it's like riding on a roller coaster with greased rails! So yea, I'd imagine in the 1000 Miles!, it would be pretty tough to keep up with the Jag especially, even though it's slower, simply because the Jag would handle those turns much better.

Hmmm, I can see it, the GTO handles very bad indeed...

I'll try the camaro then, but I will tune the gear ratios. Thanks folks.

The GTO is probablyy the worst of the worst, so far as muscle car type handling goes. It is often considered the first official muscle car, though (the car which started the trend) so it's cool PD included it. The Camaro Z/28 302 on the other hand, competed in the Trans Am (lots of circuit races), so it's one of the better-handling choices. Still far from perfect, of course, but much easier than the GTO. 💡

Well, I hotlapped both in the ring months ago, I was using a DS2, so my times suck, but they're good for comparison, I was 2 seconds faster in the SS than with the Tempest, I was running in S2 tires for a good run of 8:02:xx on the Camaro SS(a couple of mistakes and travels through the grass), I can do better now with my wheel and with the Z/28, though.

I'll make sure that the Jag shows up. ;) I'll race on Sunday morning, I'll post the results and impressions there. 👍

I got tempted to start the 1000 miles again last night in a bone stock '64 GTO.

I got to disagree, the GTO handles decent for me. Seems well suited for my driving style, and I was easily able to build a comfortable lead over the Jag. Only problem was the rear S1 tires turned bright red half way through lap 4 of a run, and I lost any lead I had.

I may start again against the same lineup with an LSD installed, hopefully that will help the tire wear problem as I was doing alot of one wheel peels coming out of 2nd gear corners.

The '64 GTO (along with the rest of the big block muscle cars in GT4, Chevelle, 'Cuda) were never designed to be corner carvers. Thats what the small block cars were for, the Z/28 and GT350 in the game. I wish they had included others like the Challenger T/A, AAR 'Cuda and Boss 302.

Try the GTO against the Cobra then! Trust me, you'll be hanging on for dear life. :mischievous: I never personally tried it against the Jag, so I wasn't sure how competitive it would be....

YEa me too. :( GT2 had a Challenger with a 340 small-block I think. And I STILL don't have my Boss Mustang after all these years.:grumpy::banghead: Urgh...now you got me mad!

GT2 has a Challenger(Plum crazy, please) and a Plymouth GTX which was just epic, I miss that car so much.

yep, its a great event! 👍 i should do it again, because i keep getting the prize car in white and blue, and not the outrageously sexy Rosso Alfa :D

I don't think the GTO would do well against the Cobra, atleast not with a stock tranny. It can hold it's own against the Jag on the 'Ring, I'm sure it will get killed at Sarthe only topping out at 120mph. The Jag can go 150+mph if I remember.

I try to avoid the Cobra, I try and go for a close race rather than max A-spec points.

Now that I think of it, a stock GT350 might be a good match for the Cobra. 💡

Maybe if they didn't put every NSX and Skyline ever made into the game they would have had room for them. :indiff:

...oh, it'll be a close race between Cobra and GTO...you won't have any problems there! LIke I said, one of my best replays is the GTO up against both the Buick Special and Cobra in the Pro-level Historic race (forget official name). And that's just one lap!!! :scared: Or maybe it's two laps, I forget.

GO for it!

Yup. It's a shame. No Boss 302. No Thunderbird. No Mach 1. No 3rd or 4th-gen Mustang 5.0 No Mazda RX-3. No FB-series Mazda RX-7. Only one version of the Beetle, not one of the later, more powerful ones.

6 years later and we're all still talking about this stuff!

It may be close on smaller tracks, but large tracks, I doubt it. I'd much rather find something more competitive.

GO for it!

I'll try it this weekend. Don't remember if I got a stock GT350 or not, may have to win one in the Shelby cup or whatever it's called. Easy enough.

I would have loved a '55-'57 Tbird, Boss 302, and others. Another thing that ticks me off about the 1000 miles is the rules are pre 1970 only, not pre 1975 or pre 1980 like the other historic races.

I've decided to retry this event in a Z\28 stock. Luckily, i found myself going against the Jag and the 300SL which both start at the front of the line. I couldn't be bothered to worry about such things, so I left for about 3 hours...

When i came back, I was a full minute behind the Jag!:nervous:AND 3 laps to go:scared:. So i did what any responsible Gt player would do: I jumped behind the wheel.

This was easily the best experience I've had in a long time. I won 2 seconds ahead of the Jag, the closest i ever had.

Oh my lord, I know dude...That's the stupidest rule ever. CAn't tell you how many times I've looked to my 2002, my '71 Skyline GT-R, my Alpines, even my '78 Mitsubishi Mirage! NOpe, can't touch ANY of 'em for Historic stuff. Which means they wind up sitting in the garage most of the time because there's only a handful of stuff they can do. :dunce:
