I would so love to be rich right now, but then again, I'd probably get arrested for driving that thing full speed along the pacific coast highway :D

She's got horrible squinty eyes, they ruin the deal.

One wonders how someone in California came across a FW-08...

I read in car and driver that ferrari was selling some of its F1 cars, even one of the 1982 cars that was driven by Gilles Villeneuve.

yea, I belive the 2001 Ferarri that Schumacher drove to the championship was sold already. EVO magazine(UK publication) already covered it. it turns out you can't be just any joe scmoe with a bazillion dollars, you have to be known by the people at Ferarri. like if Governor Schwartzenegger wanted to buy one, they would probably say no. but on the other hand if say Sebastian Loeb or Jackie Stewart wnated to buy one, they could probably get one with out a problem because the people at Ferarri knows they will be able to race one w/o wrecking a piece of history.

It's probably similar to the way the Enzo was released - having to be a responsible F40/F50 owner to be invited to buy an Enzo.

I'd rather they donate these cars to museums somewhere personally.

Well, maybe, but they should definately be used regulary. That's why the Goodwood Festival of Speed is such a great event! Let's see this machinery do what it was built to do.

Hmmm, I want it. Now to get a plane ticket to california and a gun (it's cheaper than the car).

That's a good point. I was just thinking in terms of, if someone buys it and puts it on display in his garage somewhere where only his equally rich friends can see it, I don't approve, hence I'd rather it be available to the public. Actually being used is one step better.

Has it got the origional engine still in it? If so it would be too expensive to use regularly.

The Ferrari in question (MS's championship winning one) is now owned by a wealthy brit, who also happens to occasional race in the FIA Gt championship. I belive this Ferrari, like other 'customer' cars, are kept and maintained by ferrari themselves who will, for a price, take the car in question to a race circuit with a small team of mechanics (ferraris own guys are the only people who could get a modern F1 Ferrari to work) for the 'owner' to drive to his/hers hearts content. An ordrinary person couldn't get a Modern F1 to opperate.

$250,000(?) seems a lot when a arrows or the like from the same period could be bought for around £40,000. It might be upto a second slower around a F1 circuit then the williams, but it would still be 10 seconds quicker than anything else.

Trouble would be finding a suitable racing series that's regulations would allow it to run in.

A few years ago someone bought a Jordon F1 and ran it in the British Hillclimb Championship. Everyone expected it to blow-away the competition in its class, but the purpose built 'Pilbeams' and 'Goulds' were mostly quicker.

The Euro BOSS championship is usually where old F1 cars in the hands of wealthy owners get raced.

Fifth Gear had almost a whole programme about the guy who bought the 2001 Ferrari. Wish I could by an F1 car.
