1st Annual Fall Roadster Battle! FINAL RESULTS POSTED!!!

Thanks krenkme and praiano for all your support! Thanks DB and everyone for allowing my car into the shootout. 👍:)👍

It is a MG TF160 and I did send it to praiano and krenkme before work got in the way and I was not able to publish the tune.

Preparing to test it now.

Yours is the last car I have to test, then I'll do a short run in my SSR and post my results for the last 6 cars.

So far with a few minor annoyances I've noted in my mini reviews all the cars have been outstanding.

Picking the top three for drivers choice consideration is going to be tough and putting them in a 1, 2, 3 order will be even harder.

Thanks for all the hard work and great tunes everyone this has been a real pleasure!

@Detoxification
Again not to take anything away from my garage mates fine tune, but could you please re-visit your results for tris_73's tune?

I find it highly unusual that his tune is 2 seconds faster than all the others, especially considering how tightly grouped you have the rest of the times.

Not saying your listed time is wrong but would like some sort of explanation as to why his tune is so much faster for you vs all the other quite similar cars.

Thanks for your efforts testing and hope we see more from you in the future.👍👍

Note: looking at your results I'm wondering if you possibly had SRF on by accident when testing both tris_73's and praiano63's times as they both seem to fall outside the expected range compared to your other times. Just a thought.:sly:

I'd also appreciate you having a look at this Detoxification. It does seem a little odd that my tune is sitting so much faster than anyone else's. You did give it a glowing review, and maybe it just does work for you much better than any of the others, but if you could see your way to running it again, and replicating the time it would be great.

Thank the others more than me. They were insistent. :) I will change the front listing to the TF160. I went off Praiano's sheet as I didn't know for sure which it was. If you have a pic I can try to get that in the poll. If not, at least you still get the benefit of the driver testing. 👍

I might actually get some time to run these this weekend so I am sending out FRs for those I don't have and will paste some rubber on the asphalt tonight. :D

^^ Agreed , those times make no sense based off of other testers results. No chance.

Maybe he done 20 laps in Tris car and 1 or 2 only in the others :D Praianos car outperformed its other results too.

It is Finished!

Got all testing done and the results are posted with mini reviews here

Great job once more everyone and if I have time I'll re-test and try to improve some times.

For the most part though I'm just going to relax a bit and wait (in)patiently for the rest of the results.

Good work Despy. I have an MGF tune also im going to put it on share if anyone fancies a blast. I decided to go for the MX5 as the MG wasnt giving the laptime.

MGF or the TR160?

The MGF had better acceleration in my testing but its weight distribution was giving me headaches in the tuning department as the tail really loves to come out and play.

The TF160 on the other hand has great weight distribution so getting it to handle is a much easier prospect.

I'm currently working on fine tuning a MR-S V Edition (6MT) '02 That I'll be putting on share. Sort of surprised nobody entered one of these as its plenty quick and at least to me looks better than either the S2000 or the Miata.

Also find it a bit odd that only the Roadster RS (NC) '07 was entered from the Miata family with two other premium models and several standards available. We saw several different years of the S2000 so find it hard to believe that the one model of Miata was that much better than all the others.

Ok not doing as good as I have hoped. For all the testers please read my comments for the car in my garage as this will improve your times considerably. If the tires go red you have failed, if it makes a slightly loud squeak sound while turning you have failed, if you hit the breaks too late causing you to go the smallest inch of your racing line you have failed. Lol yes it is really difficult to drive, but just break slightly before where you think you should or if you have driving line on just before it goes red and slow down to a point that is good and let go of everything and let the car coast around the apex. Once you are slightly straight apply the gas lightly than hard once you guarantee you can make the rest of the turn. Close as possible to the edge of the corners even to the point of touching them will be the fastest line. These tips will work with everyone's car as well the key is to make sure you have planed your next move before you enter the corner so you don't have to break more once you start making the turn.

Hmm I have you as one of the fastest cars and just missing my selection as best S2000...:D

I thought this was kind of odd given how close the S2000 times were for the other drivers. I've been caught out with tire wear off a couple of times, now that it's "off" by default when you set up a lounge. That would account for 2 seconds for sure with these tires.

I don't get half the comments on my car. Praiano finds it difficult, Desperado finds it boring...

What the heck? Does it change between drivers or something?

Lol one of the fastest and missing selection as best car means fail. Not hating on you or anyone who drove my car slower than other cars just throwing tips out to drive it at max speed.

Dual personality

But it's that odd? Imma givin' it a go today, let's see if it is suffering from personality issues.

Driving styles and preferences in how a car handles. Compared to the other S2000s I had tried to that point in testing it was much easier to drive fast but it still required fairly close attention to driving lines and braking zones compared to say the Miatas. While I could drive it very fast for me, the fact that I couldn't just chuck it about the track and play with it some meant there wasn't much fun factor. For me it seemed set up to one thing only and that was lay down the fastest possible lap and as long as that's all you wanted to do it was an good car. That singlemindedness though didn't equate to a "fun" car but just a very very good tool when driven correctly.

Lol that's the fun of this competition and having multiple drivers at different skill levels test it out. My car I made as best as it can be, but requires perfect driving to land blistering fast times. Drivers who have that little bit of finesse and consistency will land quick times while drivers who are harder on brakes and gas will land alright times or bad times. You just got to hope that the testers all drive the same way as you do to average out quick times.

Never having entered a tuning contest before that was my biggest fear, that others would not drive the car the way I do and it would be a complete slug...lol. I know a lot of guys like to throw a car around a lot, and to some extent that is the character of the S2000 and if you tune that out, it's can be an understeering pig, but my driving style is to be as smooth and concise as I can, hit the apex's, brake on mark, keep the rear end in check etc...aka boring...lol.

I'm very happy with my results so far, and happy to be in the mix no matter where I end up. It's been a good learning experience for sure, one I look forward to again.

Don't you worry about that, you're doing just fine. These events will alter the way you go about a car, knowing you need to build a car that all levels of skill can drive well. I think you've done exactly the right thing, a preamble before even getting to the settings of your car. I saved some face in the Rally Shootout by offering a reasonably detailed explanation of how the car should be driven. It was a copy & paste job and would have been a little over the top for a regular Shootout, but I felt it was warranted for the Rally one. Specialist tracks, cars and skills were required for that one.

I think Test Drivers have a responsibility to go and look at a Tuner's build notes, to see if there are any specific instructions, as much as it is a Tuner's responsibility to explain any peculiarities about a car.

Rotary Junkie's S2000- 1:26.319
It's like an Amuse S2000 R1, only better. Two words best describe this car. Difficult, and epic. Topping the leaderboard on the first lap out makes it epically fast, nearly killing me along the way makes it epically tricky and the fact that I'm still smiling from that drive means it's epic fun. It isn't perfect, the brakes make it very snappy and eager to turn into a corner and there is some understeer when you get your line really wrong. Overall though, I have to say that this already got a spot as my driver's choice. Good job…now tell me the secret behind that hyper overkill of rear camber.

See bolded. Secret revealed.

@ Desperado
My S2K had 196 miles on it, I thought cars fully broke in at 186. Sorry for being a pain in the arse.

I hope to finish first testing tonight or tomorrow. Ten laps each car, only three to go. One problem, VTiRoj could you free up a space for me please, last time I tried to send you a FR you were full. Other then that I'll put up the times when I'm done. And if time allows, 5 more laps with each car and a small review. Having fun so far!! :dopey:

Also don't forget to get HERE and vote for the best photo!!!

Well I just found a 4wd convertible in the game.:D
Unfortunately it wouldn't have qualified for this shootout as it is a 2+2 seater. Also fails since its a concept.
Of course the 456PP stock with no oil change/engine rebuild at 243km would have made it unlikely to fit 450PP and be competitive anyways!

You can expect to see a tune of it posted up in the next few days though as I find it intriguing.

Oh did I forget to mention that it's a sports car/SUV/truck and qualifies for the compact car seasonal!:gtpflag:

That's the one krenkme.:D

Just in case anyone's interested the only way you can get it to 450PP using the shootout limits on ballast and power limiter is to not do an oil change/engine rebuild. Changing oil raises PP to 465 and the limits for the shootout only bring it down to around 455.:(

That being said it is a complete terror on the compact car seasonal.:D

It's my secret love. Sorry if I spoiled your surpise:nervous: (don't tell my Beat that....it might get mad :dopey:)

Looks a little like someone put a crossfire into a compactor, but gave up halfway through. :sly:
